I'm still getting the hang of it but I love the readiness and the amount of virtual meetings that are available especially when I can't make it to one in my hometown and it's super cool learning about so many different experiences from all over ide definitely recommend this 2 any 1 in recovery
It's convenient to have a big book in my pocket all day everyday. BUT BUT the prayers in this app are a HUGE part of my recovery. I didn't know how to pray. I did not have to figure it out, the prayers in this app are straight from the big book for the most part. These prayers gave me exactly what I needed and much more. On awakening, 3rd step, 7th and 9th step prayers rocketed my life into the 4th dimension once I started using them every morning followed by meditation.
I like the app very much. I haven't investigated an upgrade but I would like it even better if it was updated to include all additional material to be identical to the 4TH edition. I like it because it is convenient to be able to access the material on my phone. Since it is an AA book it should have the latest published editions material. It would also be nice if it also contained the 12X12... AA's purpose is to help alcoholics achieve sobriety and live a life that begins with sobriety.
Great aid for recovery. Thank you! If you can, please change the font and scrolling back to what it used to be. Changing to 2 stars for now and will go to 5 when fixed. Probably won't continue to use otherwise because the chapters are what I use most and just don't like it now. 2.15.2021
Great app for free. Gets better with every update. Love having the prayers handy, often sharing them with sponsees under stress. I worry that I don't carry a hard copy as I once did, marking kitchen table AA a little less acessable, but that's a issue for which I, not the app, should address.
It's good although I feel like it's not the whole big book tho seems short unless I'm not navigating it right? which means that's not so users friendly. But i like the audio book and the ability to listen or read offline once it's downloaded
I'm seeing people in chat ask where to find meetings. Are they not seeing the chair symbol? Can you make it easier to spot? Maybe have it as a larger icon. Just coming into recovery, some people are pretty fuzzy and need to keep it simple. Very simple. Thanks for this app, BTW. I've found many group meetings that I attend regularly. Including my online home group.
it's the big book and it's at your fingertips and free on top of that! I love this app and I love you Bill w and dr Bob! thanks for this great app, despite any lacking amenities that I am reading from reviews of people who dont like this app for whatever reason, I reiterate that it's a free big book at your disposal at a moments notice. I'm grateful for this and am comforted to know it's so close at hand. God bless all you who made this app available!
awesome. contains personal stories, aa sayings, the steps, the whole big book from what i can tell and its all free. extremely useful if you are attending AA. if you don't want it to have access to your location, just go into the app settings and remove that permission. you can do this with most apps btw. thats the only thing iffy about this app. why ask for my location?
I think the UI, although simple is good in its own right, could be slightly improved and modernized a little; otherwise great app as far as the free version.
Trying to make an account on the app. But every password I attempt it says "includes invalid characters" but doesn't give me an example of what the invalid characters are. I never knew a password would be so complicated.
(Reply from dev is promising. Looking forward to new version!) Previous review: Location permission requested!? No explanation in the description as to why location permissions are requested, nor does any app feature need to access location. The features of the app are actually decent, and generally deserving of more than 1-star, but this needs to be addressed immediately. Until that time, if you choose to download this, protect your privacy: Click "Deny" when asked for location access.
More than I expected. The ads are very low key. No music from the ads or interrupted reading. For now. I hope it stays that way! We are very thankful that it is free. We use it everyday!
great app, only one issue...whenever I reduce the app, the chapter I was on reverts to the beginning of the chapter rather than remembering my last stopping point. Small issue but can be annoying.
The app would be better if you could post things on your clipboard, for later reference. Sill though, easy to navigate. User friendly.
Had helped me too study in many ways. My favorite feature is the ability to have the Big Book read to me so I can listen while doing other activities.
Being free the minor grammatical errors can be ignored. Progress in the right direction is enough for me, not perfect tho ;).
I generally like the app but I think it would be a good idea to have the user be able to keep the text where he puts it. And stay rather than skip back to the front of the book
I cannot get into any meetings. I had this app last year, and it was the same issue, I cannot get into any meetings at all. Very frustrating, any help would be really appreciated, and yes I contacted meetings directly.
It has some good features and is useful but for some reason the comments and likes for posts aren't hyperlinked, so I can't read the comments on my post. Other than that it's a great app.
This app is truly a godsend ... I have battled addiction for several years and after numerous relaspes I have finally surrendered to my Higher Power's will and the 12 steps. This app offers all of the knowledge and wisdom of AA's Big Book right at my fingertips .... I love it !!!
TRAVIS TERRELL- Dude... the reason the app gives you the OPTION to disclose your location is so that you can find local AA meetings in your area. DUUUHHH. No need to poo your pants over a decision that is basically a standard process in every new app downloaded. It's not mandatory for it to function or a conspiracy to invade your privacy-most people GO to AA meetings AND read the book. Also, it's literally a still shot of the app-"find a meeting near you" hence the OPTIONAL location feature. 😑
I love this app. There are only a few things, it doesn't have a dark mode as far as I can tell, and if you lock your phone when reading, it starts the chapter over.
Great app! I love the sobriety counter and the message board feature. I wish it had Daily Reflections.
It is a wonderful convenience to be able access and ,at any time, read the book. Essential to live a life of not only physical but emotional sobriety.
It is very frustrating there is no searchable Big Book app by anyone. This one allows a search, but only tells you what chapter a word is in! Useless.
The text is not perfectly transcribed from the book. Also, could benefit from carrying the stories in the back of the book.
This ap was different when I last used. I noticed the live support now can be provided by paid sponsers. I know that maintaining a digital UI can be expensive, and that volunteer work is hard to be provided with insurance and health care changes. this is a sad decesision and is completely against Bill's vision he came to believe and then fell back on through much work and tireless commitment. please change this policy so addicts and fellow drinkers and bar patrons can feel comfortable to use.
Fantastic. Best in class so far. Sobriety calculator is fun as well, good to have a reminder before you start reading.
I enjoy having a copy of the AA Big Book, on my phone, as an app, in this technology driven world, while I am on the go. It also keeps my hard copy, clean and unabused, or lost, while I move about. I only wish there were a 12 and 12, long form, available in app format. Overall, the AA Big Book app is perfect!
