Excellent in many ways. Very fast at opening large files. Two improvements needed: 1) Ability to sideload extra fonts. 2) When a book is opened from my external SD card, a copy of it goes to the Downloads folder on my internal storage. I hate this! Can it not read the book from its original position?

I have used AlReader for several years on numberous devices and I even recommended it to my computer-illiterate father for reading his books. Very very nice app. It's my primary app for reading ebooks on my tablet and for listening to ebooks (using TTS) on my phone while in the car. Two features I'd like to see: 1. I'd like to be able to set it up to begin TTS immediately upon startup. Like I said above, a major use case for me is listening to ebooks while driving. This option would make it less likely that I'd crash my car while starting up my book-read. :-) It would also make it a bit more compatible (for me) with Android Auto. 2. Built-in Solarized colors might be nice. I have already set this up on my tablet manually -- nice to be able to do this! -- but having it built-in would save a bit of work when installing it fresh on a new device.

Really perfect for my needs. Half the negative reviews don't read the supported file list or expect it to work miracles. This is an extremely simple and highly customizable file reader for straightforward reading, with the necessary tools like bookmarks, highlighting, and extensive font and background options. No, you can't draw hydroxyl groups over ochem diagrams, but yes, you can read every standard EPUB and TXT you can get your hands on online. Major props to the developer for this freeware.

This is most convenient, stable, powerful and simple to use book reader I ever seen. Many thanks to Author. An annoying bug appeared after latest update of my S20+ to Android 12: AlReader unfortunately crashes, if put TTS voice on pause from a headset, wired or Bluetooth. At same time, audio/video players are putting on pause correctly.

Easy to use, no-frill, no ads, no annoyances. Quite intuitive. Reads almost all types of ebook formats! I've been using this app for the longest time, over 5 or 6 handsets. I'm still using it because it's so good. Only drawback is that it doesn’t read pdf and cbr. But all mobiles have a built-in pdf reader anyway.

AlReader is the best among the many text-based ebook readers I've tried (NOT for image-based like .pdf & .djvu). It's lightweight but highly functional, and NO ADS!! I suggest taking a few minutes to become acquainted with the options. --> *I use a tan background, as it's easy on the eyes. *Left-edge swipe for brightness, right-edge for font size are winners.

A great text reader, with the option to read aloud, only problem we have found, is that my elderly Mum, likes to read the text and listen along. The controls stay on the bottom of the screen in this setting, and they cover the text, which makes it very easy for Mum to lose her place, and she gets confused. If they could be a way of removing these from the screen when it's in use, it would make things so much easier... Thanks.

The app is excellent. It is not too complicated, can read many types of eBook files. And especially the TTS mode, i can listen instead of just look at the screen for a long time. But since couple days the TTS mode hasn't worked so well. Normally TTS will take a block of text and read it out loud. Between the blocks there is a little pause, which doesn't last so long. But now it takes a clearly long time, about up to one second. Can you guys please take a look to solve this issue?

Exactly as described: a lightweight, useful, ad-free app for reading documents of many kinds, including types not read by most programs. The ability to change brightness and switch between dark or light background make it easy to ensure readability in a variety of conditions. I wish I could edit rich text files with it, but that's not the advertised purpose so I can't hold the lack against it. I've downloaded the app on every phone I've had since discovering it, and find it invaluable!

I don't know why it took so long for me to discover this app and wish I'd found it a long time ago. There's nothing to dislike about it as it does everything you could possibly need in an e-book reader! My only comment (I can't call it a criticism because I don't want to be negative about something so good) is that there's minimal help to understand all the features. I did visit the developer's website for the app but this merely tells you about everything you can do. Since the developer is Russian, the English is a little odd in places but the website whilst listing the various features, doesn't give the user anything more in terms of FAQs or support. The text you get in settings (called 'options' in the app) is all the help you get and it's minimal, just a couple of words to explain each function. My advice would be to set up a searchable help/support feature on the webpage and that this should list the functions available in the settings; and each function should have a more detailed explanation of its use. For instance: The button panel appearing in the screen settings tells you that there are 9 configurable buttons; when you click on it each button is separately configurable. Up to that point it all makes sense but tell me, WHERE are the buttons? They're obviously onscreen.... somewhere, I just don't know where to tap because they don't tell you. Similarly, under 'Controls' there are Short taps actions with 9 configurable tap zones and Long tap actions also with 9 configurable tap zones (I get that they're the same zones dependent upon where on the screen they're located and you using either a short or a long tap to use) but are these zones different places to the configurable buttons? Do you see what I'm trying to explain that, without more in-depth help for the end user, attempting to get the settings right is very much a case of trial and error! Of course the developer knows the app intimately and exactly how he set each of these to operate but I feel he hadn't considered that he needed to write the help for those who don't know the app at all, and who need some guidance about where these tap zones are located.

I use AIReader since a long time and it is the best reader for ebooks I have tried. In the dark mode links are unreadable and there seems to be no way to change their colors. Marking fragments of text and using dictionary could be a bit simpler if one could assign them to one of the 9 actions, but such option is not provided. These are minor points and 4.5 stars are truly deserved. A year has passed - still the best, but Windows version is not so good.

I love this app! This app may not be the most techy but it is the most practical. It might lack in appearance or on its complexity, but it is true to its use. What i like best is the text to speech options. Other also have this feature but is problematic in the accent or on the pauses and some pronounciation. Just make sure you have the google text to speech engine ( my preference ). Because some phone have different engine installed and might not be what you would like.

I have used this app on several different phones and I keep coming back to it each time I get a new one. Simple interface, customize-able everything and thanks to this beautiful app I have been able to read so many books that are otherwise unavailable. A must-have for all those who enjoy reading The simplicity may be part of the charm, but the app saves where you were reading. You can easily adjust font size and background to allow for easier reading whether it is light or dark. And the amount of formats it reads is simply amazing. I have tried other apps, but I always come back to AIReader because it is the best.

This is a very nice reader. It's very customizable, and I was able to make everything look just how I like it-then I actually tried to read something. The vertical scroll is practically mirgraine inducing it's so raggedy and frustrating. I've looked through the options for a 'smooth scroll option' but found nothing. No smooth scroll is a deal breaker. (seriously though, why is that jerky scroll part of this otherwise nice reader? It keeps it from being perfect.)

I have been looking for the best e-reader for my needs for years and I have finally found it. It supports custom OPDS catalogs (and saves username and password for me), has a highly customizable menu and shorts cuts (using another popular ebook app it takes me 8 clicks to get tts working, but with the shortcuts in this app, just ONE click), among other standard settings. It may not look the prettiest right out of the box, but with some patience you can quickly set it up to your preference.

Speaking for myself this is the mobi reader that is intuitively usable and user friendly, that i have finally found. Many others kept me guessing where to adjust features which interrupts my reading. Now no guessing where to turn on night mode and so on. Lets me scroll up or sideways as it picks up my finger direction. This is the 6th mobi reader i have tried and i think i am going to stick to this one for a long time. Try it for yourself as everyone's mileage varies.

perfect app for listening to ebooks. Just one issue - need higher speed possibility than the current 390% Please explain in a step by step manner how to setup sync between app on different phones. This has never worked for me. Thank you for your prompt response. I would love the feature for having my library of books automatically available on all my devices.

I have tried, literally, every reader app on the play store. And I'm always looking for the newest. I only like two and this is one of them. I love this app. It handles all formats and is ad free. I like prestigio better because of the bookshelf view but it tends to crash. This one is just well rounded. Perfect for everyday use.... And I do.

Way. K. Jul 26, 2019

Unlike many other reader app that takes long time to load and change page of huge file, this app is excellent on on handling them. it also support night mode, font setting, color management for text/background and many other popular features. There are little ad but not annoying at all. i have tried many readers for epub and plain text, this is the best. BTW it supports ZIP files too.

Zol. G. May 30, 2020

Using it for four years. It does work at its minimalistic level. It must be maintained by the laziest developer of any programs I've ever used. It implements only a very skeletal set of text (display) formatting CSS that is a major disappointment for all the years I used it. And as far as I could ascertain still no English language user manual. It's really a shame that no basic, useful improvements are made. Oh well, I paid the full $10 contribution and I feel that at least I was fair.

I think that this is the best free reader available (having tried nearly all the others). The app is clean, well featured and intuitive to use. I use night mode at all times and love the gesture controls such as pinch zooming and sliding brightness control. The file mangement system is smart and extremely light on resources. Good job

It works offline!! This is the best text to speech reader that works offline. Although it has its flaws such as the AI not being able to identify hyphens and capitalized words, it is still great. Takes up minimal space and still has a great range of features as an epub reader. Books load fast and we can even have full screen. :)

Eug. W. Nov 28, 2018

The app isn't bad by any measure, but the most important feature to me, text to speech, is spotty at best. The app has had a problem for years with sporadically skipping huge portions of text. Most consistently, if there is an ellipses the app skips the entire section on any document I've got, even after repeatedly uninstalling and wiping the data for it. If this bug were fixed this would be my go to reader.

Var. B. Mar 10, 2022

Please make this awesome app compatible with Android Auto! Would love to continue listening to books in my car. Currently AA overrides volume control to a music app like Spotify instead of increasing volume of text-to-speech. Would also be nice to display book name, chapter progress and start/stop button.

I've been using this app for a while now and it's been a great experience, but I switched phones recently and on the new one I found that whenever I open an ebook, either from system or sd card, a copy of the file appears in the Downloads folder. Is there a way to stop this from happening? [Solved by going back to an older version of the app.] Is there a way to make empty lines show up in the reader? I messed around with advanced settings for a while but couldn't figure it out. Thank you!

Please copy eReader Prestigio's look or use a design language or let me do it for free. The visual experience is unacceptable. I migrated from eReader Prestigio because of its frequent ugly crashes during TTS synthesis. Basically hitting any image, boom, freeze. This app did crash once but is much more stable! So halfway there. Sadly it's not as usable: missing playback control integration, less polished UX flow. I'll stick with it some more because of the stability.

Best app that I've tried for epubs on android so far. Lots of tweaks. Also found it will read the text to you, with a little computer sounding voice, but still. Pinch the screen to adjust the font size. Slide finger to adjust brightness. Autoscrolling with speed adjustments. It's does a good job.

Gun. V. Aug 1, 2020

It is a fairly simple reader that doesn't crash or tell me perfectly fine files are corrupt. I have tried enough fancier readers which do. I give it 5 despite the fact that I can't get it to scan my SD card or accept the path to my ebooks on the SD card. I can access my books through Open file, so it is a minor inconvenience. It would be nice to have an additional male voice for the reader. Some books needs a male voice.

Cat. H. Oct 20, 2018

I've used this for years and love it, above all the other well known apps I've tried across many devices over years. Highly customisable and haven't found a format yet that it can't read. My only issue, I can't find any options for the TTS and would like for this to be as customisable as every other aspect of the app.

This Russian book is not intuitive at all when you hit back it goes someplace else not back, difficult to maneuver the menus and options and to get back to your last option. No matter what I did it could not find my epub stored on my SD drive even when I used the file address. I finally moved my ebook to the internal drive and after a lot of attempts AI reader finally found the book and all its parts but when I clicked on it it's just kept saying error. Also the format of this reader is ugly
