This app keeps causing my phone to malfunction. The Auto Mode seems to be the culprit. I've Uninstalled the app in hopes of fixing the problem but it persists. As soon as I'm in my car (I've programmed auto mode) I can't make phone calls and sometimes the app crashes my car. It's hard to use my phone when Auto Drive keeps popping up every second. Please fix it. Fix it NOW! I have so many things connected to this app that I can't get rid if it.

Frustrating that the Home Page can't be customized. App functions well, so no complaints there. Just wish I could open it, and see all my lists and notes on the Home Page rather than have to open lists and notes... may sound trivial but being able to customize an app such as this should be an option.... just seems so basic.

There should be an Android widget to enable single click on/off switches for devices/device groups. I shouldn't have to tap into the app, then into Devices, then turn something on/off. I won't be buying any more Amazon/Alexa devices - not a user friendly. Seems like they want to force you to use the app or voice controls. That doesn't meet everyone's needs.

This is a review for the app, not the Alexa itself. The app is just slow. Doesn't react. Crashes. Closes randomly even though I am using it. It's annoying. If you want to "quickly" set an alarm, it takes you at least five minutes to open the app, reopen it because it crashed, open the alarm window and set an alarm. It takes so long, it's quicker to do it by voice command. That should be fixed.

I like Alexa overall, but the Android app is really slow and clunky. When I scroll through my shopping list, it's like a wrestling match, the list jumps up or down on its own, as if it's being pulled by rubber bands, and half the screen is taken up by buttons and controls and an ad, there's barely room for the list. And now it says the new version will require Android 8. Not cool. I have Android 7 and my phone is not that old. I'll have to stop using Alexa, I guess.

Pretty much useless. The interface is clunky and confusing and totally user-unfriendly. If you create a routine to turn something on and off, the off time overwrites the on time so your device never actually turns on. Or if it does, it immediately turns off! It's also impossible to create more than one routine per device. Everything has to be done manually so the app is pretty much pointless.

There's too much jammed into too little space. I think they need to walk back a few steps; feels as if they are doing too much and cramming things in, a lot being silly/unnecessary. Please focus on things that actually matter and improve them, instead of spreading thin and making it worse. Navigation and interface should be much better for a top of the line tech service. Also, what's the point of voice recog if other people can still command it? Hire me so I can improve it! Great ideas here!

I don't understand how Amazon consistently has the least agile or intuitive or functional apps. I use the echo at home to save my grocery list, but I have to wait 90-180 seconds for it to pull up the list when I need it. The interface is clumsy. Nothing is obvious. My kids says, "Alexa, wake me up at 7" before they go to bed. I just realized this creates a NEW alarm everytime. There are a hundred alarms waiting on this app now, and each has to be deleted individually. Ridiculous

Patchy. Buggy software. Some of my devices listed on the app suddenly duplicate in the app which makes the routines fail as they are pointed at a now non functioning device. Switch the routine to point at the duplicate and it works again. Amazon's advice... Disconnect every device in your house from the Alexa app and start again! No. This isn't my problem, it's Amazon's problem. Their software running on their servers. When it's working it's a marvel.

Works great for home automation when it works. Unfortunately it just doesn't work well anymore. It's become more of a hassle trying to figure out why lights won't turn on or off when they should. I'm tired of deleting and remaking routines for them to work some times. I've finally given up and deleting the app and will just go back to flipping switches on and off.

First off, this is a review of the app, not the AI service it interacts with. The service is quite good. The app is so-so and getting worse as Amazon follows Apple's habit of packing more and more functionality into a slower and slower app. It's bloated. It's slow. It's so slow that sections time out frequently. It's so unnerving, I took another star away while writing this.

Works fine for most things, but shows a lackluster performance for things like alarms and reminders: the have the ability to make the notifications use special sounds, but the app doesn't actually speak the alarms and notifications, making it no better than the built-in alarms and timers that come with your phone. If this one thing were changed, i would give it a full five stars: a reminder works better when you don't need to be looking at a screen to know what it is.

Over all I'm pleased with my new/older Echo. I gave it 4 stars because of a difficult time getting it to recognize I'm speaking to it. Google has found ways to fix this on newer versions but I've been unable to find a way to get it to work. It's an Echo so that tells most people it uses the same commands, you have options to change audio, connect to Bluetooth and wi-fi no problem. It's compact, the asthestics go with most decors, and they are all reasonably priced. You've got to love Amazon!!!

We have several of these and use them for alarm clocks, reading books, and so much more. This app makes it easy to control all the smart devices AND makes recommendations for holidays. When a holiday is coming up, it will ask if we need our alarms for tomorrow because of the holiday. With the app, I can also "drop in" on any of my devices which acts like a phone call from my phone to that particular Dot/Alexa. Works the same for outgoing calls from the Dot to a phone. Super useful app, thanks!

The Alexa App is so bad. It's so slow because of wat too many features that it cannot support. One of the most annoying thing is trying to scroll through my favorites playlist, to see only 10 songs at a time instead of being able to scroll through my whole list. Trying to skip/change a song in the playlist constantly causes the app to freeze, glitch and repeat the same song. FIX THIS. You all should be BETTER than this. I genuinely have no desire to continue using the app.

Mic. K. May 15, 2022

In terms of responsiveness, this is the slowest app I've ever used. Been through a number of updates and no matter how often, it's still takes several minutes for it to respond when you click on something. If I didn't have to use it for setting devices up, I wouldn't. There are several good features which are rendered useless by this as well. App needs a serious work over.

Cra. H. May 17, 2022

Originally this app was nice to use. As time goes on, its gets slower and slower and slower. The app developers need to "TEST" the app not on WiFi but a slow 4G network. Then they will see just how utterly slow it is. Bring up my grocery list at the store is painfully slow, it might as well screenshot my list and look at that instead of the app. Updated 5/17/22

Dav. P. Apr 4, 2022

This app ranges from unbelievably slow to just usable. The UI is very busy and you have to really dig around to find some functions/settings. It's nice to be able to control and communicate with my various Alexa products, but even this is flawed. For one, you have to be connected to the internet. This is reasonable for the Echo Dot and Fire TV, but not for the Echo Buds. I can't turn off noise cancellation or adjust the EQ for my bluetooth headphones without internet. That's just dumb.

Jef. F. May 2, 2022

The Alexa app is frequently updated with smart home system breaking changes or "features" that affect both third party product functionality (bulbs, plugs, etc.) as well as Amazon's own flagship products (latest Echo devices, latest Ring doorbells, etc.). Fixes for these developer-caused problems can take weeks, months, years or never happen at all. Their testing before releasing updates and/or features has to be virtually non-existent. Prepare to be frustrated often. Still better than Google.

Cad. P. Mar 16, 2022

At best it's incomplete. It still refuses to persist many settings even though it acts like it accepts changes. At worst, it just beeps and flashes but doesn't do anything. Most of the time it doesn't recognize a name of a device, like an Echo. If I try making a call or dropping in on a device, it never connects. Many months ago it worked okay, but it has gotten worse.

Kon. P. Apr 24, 2022

The number of times I've told Alexa to set an alarm or timer, it confirms what I said, and then just doesn't do it have eclipsed the times where it has. I have difficulties using traditional alarms so being able to use my voice is great but these devices are so inconsistent and unreliable that I'm starting to convince myself that they're trying to sabotage me on purpose.

Dav. Mar 29, 2022

Ugh, the previous update was working ok but now the latest update made it lose access to my Amazon smart plug! I can't re-add it, even with factory resetting it because Alexa still thinks it's in the system. I can't access it to delete it and reconnect. That's just the latest issue in a long history of difficulties with the system and device connections. I hope it gets resolved soon. My other, 3rd party plugs all work correctly.

Cha. C. May 17, 2022

Initially 4 star but now 2 star. The experience worse by the day and the app is ultra-slow regardless of device and data broadband. Everything takes minutes to load. This is so sad because the software has so many good features but it just takes forever to view and set them up. Even the ECHO dots are becoming slow to respond. Can the developers fix this????

Tan. P. May 17, 2022

started out great for the 1st year then started to malfunction, ALL DAY. She shouts out reminders that you deleted, any reminder that she tells you, never leaves the screen, so can't see the clock and you have to manually clear it. the alarm function goes off on its own, without you even setting it. I have to constantly unplug it and let it sit for about 10 minutes. That seems to help and then she goes right back into malfunctioning. right now I'm very disappointed with my Alexa echo.

Dal. E. May 22, 2022

I've had to modify the rating recently...see below. Added an Amazon Smart Thermostat to my home and when I try to work with the schedule in the Android version of the Alexa app the app crashes. This is only a problem on my Android phone. When I use the IOS version on my iPad it's fine. It's been months, and I still cannot view or edit the thermostat schedule in the Android app. Another star lost. Disappointment in an app will lose it stars and being pleasantly surprised will earn added stars.

Kyl. O. May 22, 2022

This app needs a total revamp, more than half the stuff I used to use echo for have stopped working, it's basically like the other electronics just don't exist anymore to it, every time I try to enable a new skill it just gets reset and goes back the home page of the skills, and nothings changed. I used to use it to control my LED lights, but now they just don't connect. If you bought and echo and are now reading this, I hope you kept your receipt.

Sco. E. May 23, 2022

Too many annoying problems to list. I spend way too much time managing home devices via this and several 3rd party apps. Why? Devices being forgotten. Or weirdly moved. Then the inability to parse actual compound sentences. Or how it just won't STF up sometimes... Or if you're misunderstood suddenly every light in the house turns on. Without even verifying first, which Alexa otherwise does lot. And won't shut up if you don't reply. ugh. Honestly, The Clapper was more reliable

HUGE WASTE OF TIME. I have a brand new S22 and the app keeps crashing. When it does work it is slow. When using video call you are locked into portrait mode which is a waste of screen space if using an Echo device. Overall I expect more from Amazon in support of a platform that has been around for long enough to...well...actually be smart for the user. Do not waste your time. Return your Amazon device and look for a more reliable smart home device.
