There aren't pre-allocated spaces for ads. When they load in, they change the spacing of articles. Very weird. This also causes issues with spacing of articles especially when pressing "back" after reading an article and being in a completely different spot on the feed.
The April 18, 2022 update broke the login and it resets on every close!!! I have been using this for years, through ups and downs. It generally works and the news itself is fine. Lately, the ads are getting worse. More and more are double-height and I spend more time scrolling than reading. That is also causing data usage to soar. You can no longer delete categories from your list. They just reappear at the top. Scrolling has also started getting jittery when ads are onscreen.
The square pop up box playing video ads every page and every page refresh is beyond horrid. Not only does it constantly pop up, but you need to tap the box once to bring up the "X" to close the pop up to begin with. This leads to mis-taps and opening of said ad and a brand new pop up box after you hit the back arrow to get back to the article you were reading. Go pound sand AP!
They have a lot of articles compared to other news apps. But there's alot of spelling and grammatical errors in the articles, which is inexcusable for folks who have journalism degrees. Also, the trashy misinformation ads they have on there is even more inexcusable. When you have misinformation ads posted right in with your articles, it defeats the purpose of fact-based reporting. There's a lot of people who can't tell the difference between fact and fiction.
Great app. My only complaint (subtracting a star) is that the notifications don't group together on my Galaxy s20 fe. I use several news apps, and all the others, when there are multiple article notifications, group them together. But AP News doesn't do this. Please let me know if there is a setting that would allow this.
News is worthy, relatively unbiased. The App, on the other hand, is not as good as the news. The headline gathering "topic" sections show the same articles day after day (a word or two may change in the article to keep it "fresh"), and the same articles will show in multiple topic sections. Can't seem to edit the preferred topic sections. Uninstalled, cleared cache, or forced app closing doesn't seem to follow any requested changes. (Update: 4/22, situation seems to be getting worse)
The recent update has pretty much disabled the app. It worked ok for a week or so. Today I tried to open it and an error popped up and said to reset cache. Now when I click on it it just goes to my home page. Tried uninstalling and reloaded it still will not work.
The new update broke the app. It launches then immediately crashes. After a few crashes you get this message: Something went wrong with AP News. AP News closed because this app has a bug. Try updating this app after its developer provides a fix for this error.
Fixed! Thanks! Formerly Easy to use for many years and on this phone; May 6, 2022, suddenly stopped working. Pixel 3 phone on Google Fi. Did a force stop, did not help. App is now working after several days! Thanks for this!
Seemingly unbiased factual articles and it's free online! Focus is USA oriented, more content from the USA. BBC is a great companion and has 100x better app! The topic customization is broken! You customize it but it forgets immediately. Free, but it feels cheap too. You get what you paid for. But the fine mews content os free so its a deal. But AP news is also free which is necessary for free speech and equality.
I can't delete topics I receive notifications about, and a new popup message added in the last update reveals that this is by design. What else should I expect a news app to do besides allow me to select what types of news I am interested in? But nope, if I want to receive news notifications about the war, I also have to receive notifications about sports and entertainment. Uninstalling.
Yes there are ads but they are not obtrusive. yes they want you to sign up, but unlike USA today you don't have to really pay a lot of money. Since I'm unemployed, I'll stick with ap. But even if I wasn't unemployed, I probably would still have this app. CNN is a disgrace because it's a very left leaning new source. But AP is pretty much in the middle road. The news is about as impartial as you can get. This keeps asking me to rate it five stars when I already have done so.
Unable to open the App after the most recent update. Uninstalled and reinstalled, also cleared cache. It just sits on the white screen and never opens. On Galaxy 10 with software updated. Liked it quite a bit when it was usable.
The app itself works great, although it leaves up news from the last time I opened it so sometimes it briefly confuses me until it updates. As for the news it links to, I feel AP News is more unbiased than most.
Very good content - BUT the scrolling performance / refresh is something like 5fps. It is unusually bad and very unpleasant to use. None of other ( close to 10 ) news apps I regularly use stutters during scrolling like AP News does. Samsung S20 Ultra, tested on latest and 2mo old firmware... it isn't a 20y old device... Too bad this app is a total opposite of what AP represents. I'll start using it daily once you fix your app. Thanks!
Notifications are for actual breaking and important news, not just every little thing a politician is done like some other news apps. Factual solid news, when I need it and it's perfect for keeping me informed without bombarding me with notifications.
Hate the new update due to annoying ads....REALLY??? Also, I have to sign in every single time I open the app in order to get local news. It doesn't remember me. Before the update this wasn't an issue. As they say..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Missing The Notifications! I haven't received notifications in weeks! I have un-installed and re-installed multiple times. Checked app settings and my phone settings and cleared the cache. Nothing. I loved this app. But the whole reason I used it was to be alerted on breaking news, which doesn't work anymore. Was so hoping it would be fixed by now. Don't know if it's relevant, but I have a Galaxy S10.
It's a decent app to access AP News. Nothing fancy. However, the feature to edit topics you want to follow and rank them is broken. I am completely uninterested in sports, but every time I delete that default topic from the list, it comes back immediately upon saving and, annoyingly, places itself as my #1 topic... Should be an easy fix, AP? Would be 4 star otherwise.
I can easily find what I want to read. My overall interest on news increases daily but, so does my apprehension of the news industrywide. I feel AP News maintains a set of standards to be proud of. To rise above a challenge makes a strong and clear statement. Thank you
It's nice to just receive the news without any political rhetoric but it would be even better if you allowed me to control ALL of the news articles for which I receive notifications. There should be no required defaults! Let me decide what news I want to hear!
Choppy performance hurts this super simple news browser considerably. It has no advanced settings such as topic filters or local headlines, yet seems like its running at 20fps on a Samsung Tab S7+ (120hz display, snapdragon 865+, 12gb memory).
Like the content but the app itself has been getting worse. Frequently hangs and needs to be forced stopped. Latest update prevents you from adding custom topics (they reset everytime the app is closed).
AP News doesn't "predict" what I "want to read" based on my clicks -- they just give me relevant unbiased news from around the world whenever I open the app. THANK YOU!
What happened to this app? It just stopped working. I uninstalled, downloaded again, and of course I have no idea what my password is. I tried to reset my PW and it says "email sent" but nothing has been sent.
Very good. Highly accurate information and true journalism. Slight center-left bias, but it's one of the most objective news sources out there.
Been getting so many pop-ups saying app is having trouble connecting with a menu to chose restart, reload or close app. I always select "close app." and the pop-ups continue over & over no matter what I'm looking at. Extreamly obtrusive & very annoying! Other than that, I love the neutral stories, not biast in any of their news stories.
It's an "ok" news app. However... Too many typos in articles and most images/videos seem like they were added as an after thought - really low quality, some videos don't upload or don't play, some images are really grainy. But the most annoying thing, the news alerts seem really "sensationalized" - headlines greatly exaggerate the actual topic or are misleading (the latter is a problem). I guess I just expected better from AP...
