Barcode Scanner

It's ugly but it does the job, and most other barcode scanners are based on its code. I recommend disabling the "retrieve more info" option in settings as this will "visit" every URL you scan in the background whether you end up clicking the link or not. This can break one-time-use URLs, or leak info you thought was private. That option should be disabled by default, IMHO.

The application is very light, concise, works fast, does not contain ads and is built on an open source project. Many users write that the app started showing ads in the last few months, but the last update was 02/25/2019. Unfortunately, they confuse this app with an already removed one, which actually started to show ads aggressively. This leads to a drop in the rating of a good application that accidentally happens to have the exact same name. It is necessary to look not only at the name of the application, but also at the manufacturer.

This app is what I consider the original, tried, and true barcode scanner. I remember using it on my LG Optimus back on Android 2, and it was beautiful. On every Android phone I've owned, this was one of the essential apps to get. Today, it works just as it used to, but with the modernization that all phones and Android updates provide. Thanks for keeping it up to date all these years.

I use this as the primary scanner on my phone, and have found out to be accurate. My only complaint is that it often takes a VERY long time to focus up close, and instead focusses out no matter how close I'm holding the code. I think it should either default to a closer focus setting, or make better use of the cameras focal length sensors.

Please add an option to put a different sound when the barcode is a duplicate so we don't have to check the history list everytime we look for a duplicate. Imagine scanning hundreds and thousands of barcodes looking for a duplicate. Good luck. haha If you add this feature, you will be the only app that has this feature. I will even pay for this app. Until then will I give my 5-star rating. Thank you!

This app is not going to provide you all the information you want. Normal barcodes, and even QR codes, may be just regular text or a number that is only understood one way. Yet remember that this lets you read a URL, etc. BEFORE you go to it, thus is why it is great. I have no device I can test with, but if it is still true, it may have issues with devices that have no camera focus.

This app allowed me to import WiFi networks and passwords from a QR code in one tap, even on a device with an older version of Android (9) that has no built-in option in settings or network settings to add (or export) a WiFi network from a QR code. Thus, I spent under 5 seconds in this app today. How convenient, simple, and wonderful! Instead of fiddling with complex WiFi passwords or broken barcode scanning apps, I was on to bigger and better things in my life (like writing long reviews).

I have really seen too many applications to scan and none has served me as much as this one! It is incredible how useful it is being light and for me that I work in a wholesale business of facial beauty products has really been an help to categorize my products, the application also has a history to see the searches made and a series of very specific settings to make an effective scan. I definitely loved it!

It does it's job but it's very slow. Idk why some people find this app fast but maybe the latest update of it as of 4th April 2022, it's way too slow. But it works atleast. Many other apps, it doesn't even work at all. So that's why 4 stars.

Requests access to contacts for some reason and does not work properly if not allowed to do so (kinda sus)... Uninstalled and got the scanner by cognex instead. It worked perfectly without needing "extra" permissions such as contacts... Use that instead

Wow I'm having the same issue as many others. I had this app for so many years and it worked great. Then the recent updates messed it all up. Now it is hard to focus on a barcode. Sometimes it sends to a page saying I won a Ps4 or other ads that have nothing to do with the baroda I scanned. It's a terrible app now. I'm deleting it

This use to be the best and fastest barcode scanner by far. Lately it is struggling to scan normal 2D barcodes. In the past it scanned codes even before the camera was done focusing. Now you will be lucky if it scans at all. I am really disappointed to see such a great, simple and easy app failing behind. I now use different apps that also uses zxing interface/code and it works.

This is one of those essential apps. Works as as expected without failing, which is great. Just have an issue with focusing the camera when being close to a barcode, the auto focus button seems to be a bit useless on my device. I get passed this by blocking the camera and the opening it, then it refocusses and on most cases works good.

Great app and simple to use. +1 for the open source!. However could the app be updated to latest Android built? I am running Android 11 and it's running on compatibility mode. Permissions should be updated to the latest Android. This would allow to ask for permission on the time of the action and for the specific acction (like contact access when sharing a contact) instead of having to provide permissions by default. This would provide a lot of clarity for the users and give a better feedback.

It not only runs on background, but it also pop ups a "Allow Barcode Scanner the following permissions? Read your contacts". Like, why in the world would a barcode scanner app need to read my contacts? Plus, this happened out of nowhere, I didnt even open the app, I installed it like 3 months ago. I will obviously report this app.

It's not installing updating, can't cancel, and it's holding up the queue for all other updates. edit from 1 to 4. installed. probably more a function of a 6y old galaxy phone than otherwise. but still associated.

Just con counteract the negative. I have used this for years, and whilst it did have a few issues when I first started using a Samsung S10 these sorted them selves out, so I suspect it was samsung/os issues more than the app. Anyway its free and it works so try it.

Developers, stop shooting yourselves in the foot! Why? Simply because of your silly decision in disabling, as a standard, those which are essential features for any barcode scanner: AUTO EXPOSURE and AUTO FOCUS!! I mean, why having those disabled from the moment this app is installed for crissake?? For you new user who might be already driven to dispair (as I was) as to why this "crappy" app won't just scan anything, there you have it. Just go to "settings" and enable those ASAP and "voilá": you have a fully-working barcode scanner! Some bad decision!

I've been using this for almost a decade now and it never failed me. It's usefulness is matched by its UI simplicity. Scan, share, history: that's really all what you need and I'm glad this app favored to stay that simple rather than being bloated with unnecessary features.

Fabulous! I use it to scan QR codes when out shopping. It has a history option which I use to determine the time/date I have attended a business. Data can be stored indefinitely - perfect for these Covid times!

"Was" but no longer "Is". As another reviewer found, this is not compatible with Android 11. It works perfectly on all previous versions but the camera view only shows a small area of the upper left of the window. I have not tested on iOS but some blogs are stating that it doesn't work for newer versions on the Apple side. I lost 2 weeks of development time before I confirmed the issue with 11 and will have to find and refector a new barcode reader into my phone app.

The app is OK. It works and the settings are extensive HOWEVER, when I open the app it rotates the screen. If I have NO SCREEN ROTATION active it will INVERT (turnnit upside down) the screen and if I disable that, it just turns it sideways. I uninstalled. Looking for an easier one to use.

Great app. Scans almost any type of code and is easy to use. Doesn't have tons of ads either. If you want to be able to scan barcodes and QR codes easily, without needing a different app for each, this is the app you want.

Best QR Scanner app! I like that it is fast, stable and could focus with tap on the screen. I missed that it not using flashlight at night, but can set it in settings after you open the app. Thank you for develop this and make it free! It is very valuable for the whole Android community as other apps using it as a bridge for scanning QR codes!

I downloaded it and went to scan a barcode in great condition and it would not work. I tried being pro app because I hate leaving bad reviews but this scanner needs checked. Maybe its the quality of my phone?? who knows! I have tried other bar code scanner apps and they worked just fine . please fix ....thanks!!!!: )

Simply the best barcode scanner. Users scanning random suspicious codes and blaming the scanner is ridiculous! You F up, you own it. Do not blame app for your mistakes! This scanner does exactly its job and it is one, if not the best in its area. Thumbs up for the ZXing Team from me!

Very slow to read codes. Takes such a long time just to focus. I had an easier time scanning the gd pavement over the actual code. I have to scan codes to work and I hate how they force me to use this app over the better ones. So much so I rather open a better scanning app then use it's results in my work app. Much faster to go between apps vs use this one that is tied to the work app. It is that slow and agonizing. Fix the focus speed and reading speed.
