WARNING: There are now video adverts which start playing unexpectedly when you swipe to the next story, usually accompanied by loud music. They are very alarming. Epileptics and people with heart trouble BEWARE. Videos often don't load, but the interminable adverts do. Many 'aren't available in your country'. Headline news stories can be there for days, some for weeks. Content is politically biased. I used to love this app. This updated, advert infested version is hugely disappointing.
What have they done to this app??? Missing images, blank 'topics', clunky navigation between news items. It used to be quite good but now is pretty poor. Update Nov 2021 - And now the app is constantly crashing about 1 second after opening. And the means to send feedback to the BBC doesn't work either!
Extremely happy with this app and with the comprehensive BBC coverage of news. It has written, , well laid out, informative articles with a combination of facts, explanations, and analyses. It also has excellent photographs and videos. I haven't encountered any problems with the app and it seems to work flawlessly.
App is so-so. Seems to stop functioning every time there's a new Android update and takes a while for them to catch up. Videos frequently can't be played (but that might be an issue related to the country from which one is viewing). More the fault of the BBC editorial side, the articles are constantly riddled with basic copy errors, missing or repeated words, jumbled sentence syntax. It's embarrassing for such a respected news organization. Really bad.
A good, reliable app & trustworthy news source. I like that articles are in bolder font that I can easily read if I've laid my glasses somewhere! One thing I've never liked is their notifications. A photo w/ 1 line of text doesn't compel me to click. And now their non-photo notifs have gone from 3 tantalizing lines to 1 incomplete thought line (LINE not sentence). I read less BBC now bc their competition (WaPo, NYT, & AP) all notify w/ 3 lines, so I've checked THEM & already read THEIR versions.
Interesting mix of content. At least they write with better grammar and proofreading than US media! Not as quick with breaking news as Le Monde. Videos work only sporadically (I have no problem with local news apps). Definite slant and bias: too much content about "oppressed" this or that from perspective of journalists/editors with eggagerated self image and inferiority complexes. The good thing is that the bias is easier to spot because you know they are Brits. No way to provide feedback.
Great updates. Love the video option. Wish I could just flick from on video to the next like we used to, instead of having to go back to the list of videos again. Very informative channel. Thank you
Not so great anymore! A little bit too many ads were only improved by better targeting ADS!!! Five stars as soon as we get dark mode! Still waiting for dark mode!!!!!! Nine months later, still waiting for dark mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? The only App in my phone without dark mode! Changing to TWO stars.....
Very easy to navigate and select your topics to follow. The only error I have found is when it comes to Latin America, you have to click on a news article to get to that section. If you just select the header there is an error and asks you to retry again.
Trustworthy news with frequent updates and excellent brief summaries that give me a good idea about what's happening in the world. I check multiple news sites, but always go to BBC News first. For the most part, articles seem balanced, stating facts rather than interpreting or spinning them. Breaking news about the US often shows on the BBC app BEFORE it hits the local news.
On the whole excellent. Occasionally push notifications do not bring up the story they reference. Some embedded video opens up a different article and may or may not play.
I have relied upon the BBC for global news for 40 years. Whilst living in various countries it has always been a reliable, dependable, non partisan source of reliable information. With the advent of disinformation, I find it increasingly difficult to find trustworthy news sources and the BBC is one of these. The breadth of global coverage is remarkable particularly compared to what is available in the US where I now reside. Am a great fan of all BBC streaming products and not to be missed.
This app is easy to use but a recent update has introduced irritating advertisements. In addition, some of the content comes from a BBC service aimed at juveniles - material which isn't really serious journalism. In some areas, material can stay on the app for many days after it could be called "news"!
News well reported. The app terrible.nothingbchanged. Does not show the text only partially so need to guess what it says in the headline. Too often thr text is cutt off and unreadable. Unnecessary partially visible pictures Look at other apps to improve it.
Since one of the recent updates that prioritizes an add when scrolling through the news feed or a story by blanking everything else, I am not able to see the top story on a page as an add right bellow it is prioritized. Very, very disappointing!
THE FINEST AMD BEST OF ALL! AND ITS FREE AND ANNOYING AD FREE TOO! Seriously the finest news AND THE FINEST NEWS app, best experience and finest news on this planet! and free! balanced and diverse and the App is 11/10 so good. fully customizable my news feed for the widget too!!! only your topics in your order! and the carousel by my topic feature is sensational. plus detailed background sync customization and so on.
Very good notifications, not too many. Seamlessly goes to the main appa dn can navigate easily. Occasionally some articles or pictures will not display, but you can search for the article title in a browser and find it.
BBC brings you as much news as you want. You can read the full story with background or the first paragraphs. I like this approach! But you are always up to date. Though from time to time, the app crashes which is kind of annoying.
BBC News always has always provide a lot of in depth analysis on their news stories. However their app is now having some problems so I can't open any article. Please fix the bugs.
No media outlets is unbiased but BBC is making the best effort at being unbiased that I've seen. Always read media from both sides of any issue! The app is great to, with the ability to make your own selection about subjects.
Consider access to BBC my best source of breaking news from around the world. Also find interesting the opinion pieces on an outsider's view of what's happening in my own country, United States. Gives me insight and perspective on how common people and foreign governments react to the political upheaval that has blossomed in America and an opportunity to compare USA to other Democracies and autocracies. This app works well, but recent update changed format somewhat. Related stories/topics a +.
Generally the app performs within expected parameters. Occasionally it will not load and I have to uninstall and reinstall the app in order for it to work correctly. My os is Android on Samsung 22p
They have recently started to allow audio ads when you're looking through headlines. I should not have my own music forcibly paused when I am trying to read text news.
The "live" experience is apparently only available in the UK but NOT in Sweden esp. for videos (they even count how many users). Thus, very bad live experience!
The apps is aways reading from the clip board when is opened. It is really a breach of privacy. I didn't sign up allowing the app to retrieve my clip board content.
Can't get All the BBC news, you have to make it sélection. And it is completely unusable when travelling. This new version of the BBC news app has learnt nothing from the earlier app. It does not feature a true offline mode, each section must be updated separately and even then doesn't always work when there is no network. Furthermore, the BBC deliberately blocks the earlier app. A disgrace. A better solution would be to allow the two apps to co-exist, possibly with different names.
