I'm really disappointed. It seems Microsoft has given up on the mobile market. Cortana doesn't work with a voice callout ("Hey Cortana") launch like the PC version. It can't even launch other apps. When I ask for directions or ask it to play a song, it just gives me Web search results. It's basically useless now. It seems like a Beta version when compared with the PC option. Stick with Google Assistant.

Very disappointed in the update. I use Cortana to access relevant news about sports, media, business, and entertainment that interests me, but with the latest update it only shows me local news. I'm always traveling, so this is of very little use to me. Hopefully a new version comes along and adds my interests back into the mix upon opening the app.

A shameful attempt at selling out the Microsoft brand, and sacrificing quality and functionality in the process. This is the wrong direction to take, Microsoft. With this new interface, literally the first thing I see is an advert of a woman wearing Surface headphones. Seriously!? There are several other times in Cortana's interface that the 'music' option is pushed as a pathetic attempt at pushing products. This is not what an assistant app is supposed to do! The new layout is very confusing and counterintuitive. I can't seem to find the option to link app notifications to my pc, which I loved and used often. There also doesn't seem to be any theming choices for Cortana either. Users are simply stuck with a blinding white theme that makes using it at night very undesirable. No color options, no personalization. Just white, a color that Cortana herself is not. What happened!? I understand that the man formerly in charge of Cortana was replaced, but this is no excuse to lower the quality of your app with this pathetic attempt at something new and different. I will not change review untill All of these issues are fixed. Microsoft is going in the wrong direction. Don't attempt to fix what isn't broken. 😤😡

A little different now. Cortana used to have a lot more features. I used to use it on Windows Phone and it was just like all the other assistants with wake-word, a lot of integration with phone features, would tell you if you had to leave for work early because of traffic, etc. Doesn't seem to do that stuff anymore; now it is more of a setup lists, reminders, read emails, suggest tasks sort of thing. Still useful, but in a different way.

It's great but the "Hey Cortana" doesn't seem to work without the app open. It would be nice to be able to say it in the same way as Google assistant or Siri. I switched to Cortana to see if it would work better than Google assistant as it's one of the worst. So far it syncs better than Google Assistant and lets me sync across platforms which is nice. However, I would have given it more stars if the hands free voice activation worked.

Cortana digital assistant has been around for years and still no ability for hands free voice commands from anywhere except inside the app, which is kind of pointless. Plus the interface is so much worse than it used to be. It used to have "cortana" written all over it but now it just looks like a bad version of google AI. bring back old/original style of cortana and bring us truly hands free communication and then I'll give 5 stars. Honestly disappointed. Microsoft is capable of so much more.

Its a decent assistant, and it certainly has a decent utility to it, but there's various things that ultimately take away from the experience of using Cortana. The biggest issue i have is the fact that Cortana can't seem to play music i already have on my device, instead insisting on trying to use Iheartradio, which is not only annoying but takes away one of the main reasons i installed the app, which was a quick way to play my music without searching for it.

Works great on computer but on android is worthless. There a lot of bugs and it doesn't work as efficiently as it does on the computer. Has no "Hey Cortana" option either. That's one thing that I like about Cortana is to be able to use it hands free, especially while I'm busy or driving. I think there's no point to have Cortana if it doesn't have that option. If I have to unlock my phone and open up the app to use it, I can use Google voice to text on my keyboard to type instead.

I stayed away from using assistants due to privacy issues for years. Thanks to all the information provided by Microsoft (including allowing me to delete my data easily), I find myself trusting them. I regret not using Cortana sooner, as she is wonderful. Her responses are purely professional and she can take care of menial tasks like marking a calendar and finding the weather without so much as a moment's delay or effort on my part at all. I wish I had already been using her.

I used to love cortana simply because I could have it inform me on my computer of texts and missed calls to my phone. Syncing the two was very helpful to me and the main reason I had it on my phone. Could even answer the texts via the comp. Then it seemed to stop working recently and this latest update has removed those options from the settings altogether. There is no point in me bothering with the app anymore. Just as an aside, I also hate the new "basic" look which is ugly and missing the colours and the dark mode. It seems to have been over simplified as many settings options seem to have vanished.

Have always loved Cortana, ever since I was an avid Windows Phone customer. Was thrilled to see I could get it on Android (Samsung S8+) when I was forced to give up Windows Phone. Since last update reminders will not go off as scheduled. They either go off randomly when I open Cortana, or not at all. Very disappointing. Please fix!! The reminders feature was by far the best one I had seen. Also while ur at it, add more options for how long you can snooze a reminder! Please save Cortana !

Cortana has become pretty much useless. It used to be great. I've used it since the original launch. Loved it on Windows Phone/Mobile. Now I no longer use it on any of my devices, Windows or otherwise. Every new version I've found does less and less for me. I get more functionality out of basic app and email notifications. Uninstalling for the last time.

I've had pretty good luck with Cortana as far as it understanding what I'm asking. My only problem with it is that it offers very little in offline mode. This is unfortunate because the whole reason I got the app was so that I could switch songs on spotify while driving by using voice commands. If microsoft made the app capable of doing this I'd think it was a five star app.

This isn't Taylored for people. 😏 Some software engineers decided that search results should yield what's mathematically similar to what you're looking for, instead of devizing software that understands human inputs and yields relevant results. A list of Cortana's limited functions would be useful, so other people don't try to use the "assistant" to assist with things it's incapable of assisting with. Ask it to play music, you're limited to 3 apps, 2 of which I've never even heard of. etc.

Having lots of issues with it. The app has all the permission it needs but still can not respond to Hey Cortana that is turned on in settings. It is crashing when I try to launch it through long press of the home key. There is no way to use, except to launch it manually, voice commands. Very disappointed. This was not expected from Microsoft

I'm new to using this app, and can't yet speak to its functionality. However, the app doesn't properly fit my screen on an Xperia 10 plus, and there is a big space at the bottom of the screen where i can see my home screen and even, strangely, interact with it. I can open my app tray while using the Cortana app. I suspect that this app just doesn't support 21:9 screens. I hope that this is added in the future. Also, i cannot find a way to "link" Cortana to use Apple music as my default player.

Van. T. Sep 12, 2019

Very buggy. I love the surface headphones but several main issues prompt this review. It cannot load it's own settings pane. This means I can't fix any issue or change from default behavior. It will constantly refresh/flash white on my screen in this app and other apps. This is highly disruptive and requires relaunching and closing cortana several times. Sometimes it will not connect to the headphones. This is rare and usually fixed in one power cycle of the headphones.

No matter what I did, the app could not hear me almost at all. Even when I was shouting into the microphone it would only occasionally pick me up, often missing quite a few words per sentence in the process. In addition, it's embarrassing that this app can stream music from 3 different services but it can't play music stored on my device. I don't have unlimited mobile data and I prefer to buy my songs, why cant you even just open my music player and press play?

This app used to be a solid tool for those transferring from Windows Phone as a continuation of Microsoft services. But it seems yet again, MS is neglecting it's consumer facing products. The app has new bugs and problems that have been present for a while now. Searches come up with blank pages, there is a bug of adding a previous search item on a new search when pressing space and other quirks that completely ruin any positive experience. I hope they get this app back to its former glory because it's becoming a poor app.

This app is a disappointing shell of Cortana. Cortana used to be an awesome assistant with a fantastic voice. Sadly, she is becoming dumber as she ages, her voice has become lower-quality and slower, and she is no longer able to understand slight syntactic differences in your commands. Speech to text is also vastly inferior. Most notably, Cortana no longer interprets punctuation as punctuation. If you say "period" while dictating, she spells it out.

i installed it in combination with Bing in order to get the 500 Bing Rewards points (woo, free Amazon gift certs for searching enough!), however 1) Cortana doesn't seem to give you the Bing points. 2) also, it slowed my phone down a fair bit (i like to think i keep my phone pretty clean, minimizing apps with too many permissions or ads or even connectivity). i can't tell if that's why it doesn't seem to pick up the first word or two, in spite of waiting to see what looks like an "i'm listening" animation pulsing away for a few moments where the mic icon was. 3) of course, you have to put up with mediocre results maybe 20% of the time, but that's par for the course having inflicted Bing upon myself for those tasty points. it's a pity you can't "rate your search results" and even indicate if the google results were better. and lastly, 4) while i'm no Halo expert (Reach from the Master Chief Collection being my first extensive experience a few months ago), it doesn't remind me of Cortana, and there's no way to make it more "Cortana-like"

A. G. u. Oct 30, 2018

No idea why there's so many positive reviews. It won't call, text, or email. The 'hey Cortana' only works in the app and cannot be used hands free (I thought this was a major aspect of having an assistant). It provides only 60% accuracy as it struggles understanding what I say. It can't detect local settings when behind a VPN. It doesn't activate when screen is off as you must be in the app. It must be my phone (Huawei Honor v10) as it is a half baked app. Hope it improves one day.

It's good, but one thing that bothers me is that the app won't take up the whole screen, showing some sorts of the hk e screen. Now that isnt really a problem, and my phone is a 21:9 ratio, so that's probably why since only Sony uses that ratio on phones right now. It's not a really big issue, but it's something that does bother me. Besides that, cortana is great.

It pains me to give Cortana such a low rating, but this app has been stripped down to a shell of its former self. The most glaring loss is the removal of everything but weather from the homepage. In Windows 10 mobile Cortana was better than Siri, Google Assistant, etc. with more features and a better UI. What happened?? The only reason it gets more than 1 star is that Cortana itself is a good assistant. But this app needs many features to be re-implemented.

Jam. G. Nov 18, 2018

The previous version was a great app. But why did you make 3.0 block white with no colour tuning settings? And remove the interests and news scroll list. Whoever said change the interface must have bumped their head. These features were in 2.0, why remove them. I stand up for you people then you do 1 step forward 3 steps back. Just rolitback and work on getting the new features into the previous version. Changing the colour of the interface is not an update!

Aha. R. Dec 16, 2020

Great for the assistant features, but it keeps turning on the setting for putting a floating Cortana widget on my home screen no matter how many times I turn it off. It's Hey Cortana feature also doesn't seem to work from anywhere other than the app itself, unlike Hey Google. It works nicely with Outlook, but the Android experience is pretty poor so far, unfortunately.

Wal. C. Aug 8, 2020

It's good, but I want the full features I had on my Windows phone. The voice to text feature was awesome. As a mechanic, I could respond to texts verbally. I miss this feature in my car through Bluetooth as well. It would make the conversion to the inferior Android phone better.

It's a shock and huge disappointment that Cortana for Android is being discontinued in January. It passes beyond my comprehension how it is possible in the 21st century when AIs are becoming must. I wonder if the whole ecosystem of Windows is going to be discontinued as well. The app ALREADY is not functioning properly. The quality of answers has dropped below all possible downhills. I have no idea what is going on at Microsoft HQs and labs but it must be something weird and tricky.
