Duo Mobile

Duo Mobile works with Duo Security's two-factor authentication service to make logins more secure. The application generates passcodes for login and can receive push notifications for easy, one-tap authentication.
Additionally, you can use Duo Mobile to manage two-factor authentication for other application and web services that make use of passcodes.

Note: For Duo accounts, Duo Mobile needs to be activated and linked to your account before it will work. You will receive an activation link as part of Duo's enrollment process. You may add third-party accounts at any time.

Additionally, we will request access to use your camera for the sole purpose of scanning QR codes when activating accounts. Accounts can be activated by other methods if you choose not to do so.

U2F is a great idea but needs to be implemented with some key things in mind. A person is the ultimate and only true trusted entity. Duo very poorly handles the eventuality of a phone breaking, being lost, new numbers. This can be partially avoided for 90% of cases if people always set up 2 devices at the same time, more the better. 3 devices would fix 95% of complaints problems. However there needs to be a way to transfer to another phone after-the-fact, the technology allows, not the app.

We have been using it for a few years now and have experienced next to no issues. I administer it for our company and it works wonderfully online or offline. Switching to a new phone is easy by using the migrate function and if you get a new phone and forget that then have it call/text you instead. All the reviews about people being mad that they are forced to use it are dragging the scores down, overall it is a stable and capable app.

I got locked out of my Snapchat account because of this stupid app and I can't get back in. It never gave me the option to create a password when I downloaded the app to begin with. I was under the impression that it would automatically be backed up if I got a new phone. I was wrong. It's prompting me for a password it never allowed me to set up and I can't access my accounts.

Lastest update swapped the "approve" and "deny" buttons on the push notification, so now my muscle memory causes me to deny login attempts I'm trying to accept. For such a minor change, it's remarkably annoying, and there's no good reason for them to have done it.

I have a Google phone and this authenticator is a huge inconvenience. Who's idea was this? My school should not need full access to me so that I can access the learning I have already paid for. I want to bypass these options for easier access. There are so many ways I can make my online experience secure without adding a new authenticator twice a year.

Horrible, I can't figure out why duos won't activate a pop-up when I'm requesting to login in. Neither does it remember me for 30 days whenever I check that box, so I have to keep finding my phone each time I log in so I can answer a call. Wish my school didn't use duo for security because this is aweful

Only randomly get push notifications. Usually have to open the app. And even then sometimes they are so slow my login times out before I get them. Really annoying since if I get a push notification I can respond on my watch. Also they switched the UI for confirm/reject a while ago and I had muscle memory for that. Think of your users more maybe?

You can no longer approve push requests from the notification bar. Clicking on them doesn't launch the application. Much better authenticator apps exist Update: app is still one of the worst authenticators. For example, trying to switch phones and the app tells you to go to settings > show qr code but no such menu exists. Absolutely awful

Annoying app that doesn't work. I had an account last year with the same email I use this year, tried to login using it and says I don't have any account under that email. Tried all my others and didn't work.

Once it allows multiple devices instead of just backup, it might be on par with Authy! For now, it's slightly in between Google Authenticator and Microsoft in terms of quality.

the idea that your phone is more secure than your computer or a good password baffles me, especially considering this app completely lacks any security measure aside from screenshot protection. this entire service runs on contracts and horrible one at that: one that doesn't allow people to opt out.

Frustrating, this app needs to work the first time, this adds stets to "secure" your devise, not make it so ways around are found. If the app pops up to authorize, once touched, it disappears, and the process has to start all over. Not the way security should work if you want people to use it.

Had. G. Apr 22, 2022

Fails to account for the eventualities of having a new phone. There's no way to link or login to your account through a new device. This is beyond frustrating, especially because a lot of work places require this to access their systems.

Fairly easy app to use but it somehow managed to let me click into my phone without asking for my passcode. I'm concerned that it will cause security issues if it happened to be as easy to click on a notification to get into my phone.

I'm currently trying to log in my apps that was backed up with the two factor authentication setting on duo because I changed my phone. I just can't and it's stressing me. It can't seem to find my old accounts. I would appreciate if I can get help to fix this issue

I use this app at university for two factor authentication. I recently switched phones and have been trying to set the app up on my new phone, but when I use my school email to attempt to log in, it says it doesn't exist. Back when I was able to use it, it also had an option to "remember me for 30 days", but when I clicked it it never worked. If I was a school/company looking for a two factor authentication app, I would avoid this app.

Really irritating that I used this as a backup to get into my Instagram and now that I'm locked out of my Insta account and it's requiring me to use the authentication app, YOUR APP IS TELLING ME I HAVE NO ACCOUNT ON HERE. So now I'm locked out of both accounts for no reason, and it's all because I relied on this app. This needs to be fixed. Absolutely ridiculous. The only way I'm ever changing my rating is if someone can get me right back into my account right now so I can get back into my IG.

This has to be the most difficult app to use on play store. Very poor user interface. Made to fail on most attempt than than to work. Little or no friendly prompt on how to use. Summarily made to be frustrating

Backup feature is nice, and works like any other MFA app. Needs improvement in being able to modify the token application name so I don't have third-party listed everywhere. Ideally I'd be able to update third-party to the name of the site or application the account/token is tied to instead of including it in the account name field.

I'm reviewing the app, not the concept. The app is clean, fast, dynamic, and does exactly what it says it will do. Most 1 star reviews on here seem to be 1 star because they don't understand who to complain to about extra security being required at their place of work.

Search/Sort Needed - In general the app works but could benefit from a sort and/or search feature. I currently have 36 accounted connected to Duo for 2FA. Trying to navigate through this list is tedious, especially since I can't put in custom account icons. Sorting alphabetically would be an improvement but the best option would be the ability to search by service, login, or both.

Edit: I literally cant rate this app lower. Least user friendly 2 step authentication app out there. Please find another app Cheap knock off of Microsoft authenticator. Poor user interface, difficult set up, and overall a headache. Would give 0 stars if possible

D. E. May 19, 2022

One of the worst apps I've ever seen when it comes to setting up an existing account. I need this app solely for my work, why do I need a personal Google account to 'log in' .. I should be able to log in specifically with my work info. 0 stars if I could. ... replying to comment - you need a QR or pass code to sign into an 'account' before being able to do anything. Previously had no issue, new phone and now can't get into an account, no QR code to scan, no way to log into my company. Trash.

Dig. S. Mar 21, 2022

This is entirely dependent on having access to your phone at time of login. If you forget your phone, or battery dies, done. Also if you have to reinstall the software the account will be diconnected, and you will need to get a new administrative code to connect. Should be another mechanism to connect in case of emergency.

I have wasted a large amount of my time attempting to change my primary authentication device. I've received very little assistance via phone call and online on their websites. I'm disappointed by the customer service.

03/20: Can you make it work like Bluetooth pairing. When I do send push notif, it should display a number on website. The same number should appear in device push notifications. If both numbers match only then I approve. Right now there is nothing to link request sender and approver. 20/05/22: Suggestion is not implemented yet.
