I hate this app. It works, mostly, but it isn't at all intuitive. Very clunky and annoying to use. I still haven't figured out how to go back and see previous hikes, if that's even possible. It just feels very old fashioned, like if apps existed in the 90s, they would be like this. Could and should be much better. InReach Mini seems to work great, but this software is severely lacking. Wish there was a 3rd party option.
Not the best app, but it does what it claims without major issues. I used it once during power outage. Its very convenient.
Pretty disappointed, recieved messages aren't showing up in the app even though they are on the phone. Topo maps aren't high enough resolution to be useful for most purposes. Overall design of the app leaves much to be desired.
Works fine but really out of date. Messages don't come through unless you constantly close and open app
bare minimum ok. I've had this app for years since having the original Delorme inreach. functionality is ok for basic communication. not for navigation that's left to the more expensive Garmin units. I use this app to communicate out in the wilderness, navigation is a different app
I can send outgoing messages via the app but the responses only show up on the inreach device and not the message section of the app. You would think that it would show up in the app but I have to read the responses from the small little inreach device.
Had trouble receiving incoming messages from the Garmin Inreach Mini but as per Garmin trouble shooting instructions I uninstalled and reinstalled this app and now I can receive and sent messages.
Seems to be very buggy. Based on advice from a Garmin Webinar, I attempted to download maps for upcoming trip prior to getting to the trail. Certainly a good idea, but I couldn't get it to work. It kept downloading up to a certain point and then stopped. Just plain won't complete. And I have a strong internet connection, and it loads the first 85 MB (in this instance) of 163 MB then just halts. Pretty useless. Android version.
The app is very buggy. Like another reviewer mine does not always pull the messages from the inreach device. Once this happens there does not appear to be a way to manually pull the messages. The count of unread messages on the device get out of sync and there is no way to fix that either. These 2 problems combine to make it very difficult to tell if you have a new message. Changed to one star because after 2 years these problems are still not fixed.
Yes, this app is pretty terrible. Sometimes the app and inreach connect via bluetooth, sometimes they don't. Incoming messages show on the inreach, but never make it to the app. Outgoing messages frequently show as sent on the inreach, but show as still sending on the app. I haven't even tried anything with maps. I hope the SOS works. What a piece of garbage.
Oy! Where to start with complaints? First, the inReach won't always send incoming messages to the app, huge problem when the unit is up on the roof of your boat for good reception, but out of hearing range for the message beeps. Many lost messages and no way to sync them up, so you have to keep checking the inReach but then why have an app? On the app your messages are arranged by contact name, on the inReach it's by phone number, gets very confusing when you have comms with multiple people.
app works but it is not the easiest to use, needs to provide more detail about status of satalite connection so not wondering about connection issues and delays. love being able to text when offshore so I'll accept the imperfection, it is still a fantastic service just needs a better front end. map share is less intuitive on the mini and the app could handle that feature better.
Syncing between gps device, this app, and website (Garmin Explore) is a TRAINWRECK. When you think you've deleted something it comes back after syncing and then you get tricked into deleting something you wanted to keep. Garmin needs to pick one platform to be in charge of all the others (preferably the web interface Explore) so that changes made there reflect on the device and app. I'm basically just deleting everything before a trip otherwise everything gets garbled and way too confusing.
Use ONLY for typing messages. The syncing of recieved messages is horrible. Read the messages on your actual device. If you have an Inreach Mini then this app is WAY better than trying to type on the device. So it's worth it just for that. Bit other functions are flaky. This app used to work much better but it seems like it's no longer well maintained.
I can't download the latest firmware update. Maps are pretty bad also
Truly Bad Software. If someone texts you an emoji (and who doesn't?) the app may silently fail. It looks like it's working but no further messages are transferred to your phone. No error message, no new messages. Messages might appear after a phone reboot. Tech support didn't understand what an emoji is.😣
Earthmate management of Contacts is very poor. First, the app urges the user to keep the contact list small to save space/make it easier to manage, but then it continually badgers you to sync with your Contacts. I have thousands of Contacts and only care to interact with a half dozen. Once you sync with contacts there's no way to clean out or tag them in the app to segregate. Furthermore, I entered contacts in the desktop web app and did a sync and they do not appear in the Earthmate app.
GPS not working with Android 12. Used to work great, now its completely useless. This ends to be fixed ASAP!
App is extremely clunky. Gave-up trying to use it for anything except sending texts with my Inreach mini, it doesn't sync recieved messages with mini relably so you really can only send messages with phone. Such a disappointment, the mini hardware is a solid device, huge potential for an awesome product but only to be let down by the phone app...
This app used to be great. Always planned my off roading prior to a trip on the website, then sent it to my tablet. For whatever reason, it no longer works. I continually hit the sync, but I have no access to my waypoints or routes on the website. Without routes and waypoints it is next to useless.
All in all a horrible app. If you download maps for offline use the app crashes more than it works. If you only use it for messaging, the app has to be forced closed and reopened most of the time to get new messages off inreach device. This app if designed properly could really enhance it's inreach devices capabilities but after reading other reviews it seems as if the app is just a selling point that they abandoned after device is sold.
Unable to download maps to my phone though I have space. Download starts then stalls. Despite that I was able to create route & waypoints online, sync & then use my phone to see rudimentary route & when I was nearing the waypoints. I was able to add a waypoint in route from my phone. Though messages typed using the app did sync to garmin, they didn't all send from the garmin. Which is likely a garmin issue.
Just plain bad software coding. The app get stuck in some power hungry loop and kills my phone battery. This does not happen with other hiking apps. Garmin you made a lot of Acquisitions and we have been patient. It's time to fix your mess!
