The ads before videos are too long for the length of the video, and if you don't close out of the video quickly enough, the next ad will play in the background until you close the app. Also, the past few days it's been almost impossible to scroll up or down without accidentally having it swipe to the left or right. Seems like most of the articles are ESPN+ now.

Usually streams the NHL feed I want (outside the Blackout restrictions). Occasionally, it won't play the feed without trying extra steps to clear the app cache and force close - even after a phone restart. Also, notifications for unwanted topics keep popping up even though they're off in the app. Annoying. Update- I contacted support and never received a reply. I'm sure fixing the app is high on their priority list...

Won't let me search for MLB player profiles. When I search for a player and click on them, it does nothing. Every other player in all other sports works fine, just not baseball. If I click on a player from within the game stats, I get "Whoops, something went wrong." I've tried clearing cache and data, reinstalling, turning my phone on and off, and it still does the same thing. This all started a few days ago. Please fix, I love the app and it worked perfect for years until this issue started.

I have more lagging problems watching 30 second sports clips then I do watching YouTube or any other app on my phone. Fix your problem with loading time so can watch a video with pausing or freezing or what's the point of having clips if take minutes to watch just 30 seconds. Makes me want to throw my phone when the app acts up and been watching sport center since was a kid. If app can't run like does on tv, then get rid of it. Get ride of the back round noise when I'm not using, fix your app

The app is straightforward enough. The biggest downside is that when you get alerts, they provide you a snippet of a topic, yet when you click on them they just take you to a landing page where said alert is nowhere to be found. So I end up googling for info I was alerted about by the ESPN app. I'll just remove this app and look for something else that makes sense lol

Random notifications no matter what you have on. I don't know why, but I get around 10 notifications a day related to ESPN articles that have no relevance to what I have turned on. I write to the support team just about everyday at this point and yet I still receive notifications about "which draft picks should be picked?" And "look who is on top of the leaderboard". WHY??? I do not have notifications and alerts on for these things but still receive them constantly. Disney, please.

This app is some kind of trash. The fact that it still doesn't have a dark mode is pretty pathetic. I never watch any clips since the ads are routinely longer than or the same length as the clip in question. Not like the majority of your reporters have anything worthwhile to say anyway. The paywalled articles outnumber the free ones at this point, and again it's not anything worth paying for to read. Really just inferior to the CBS app in every way especially from a functionality standpoint.

The app is hit or miss on my chromebook. Sometime it says that I have no internet connection, when other apps work fine. Other times it buffers for prolonged periods of time and never plays. If I try to forward in a fight, it will get an error. Sometimes it works.

This is the only place I can watch certain sports content and they make it as hard as possible to watch it. Recently I have had the issue of watching the live video when scrolling but as soon as you click on watch, it gives me a error message "there was an error that prevented this video from playing". That's it no explanation, no tips for changing it to make it work.

This app has one of the worst user experiences of any app that I've ever used. To navigate to different sports is a challenge, you generally are shown the results of the sport you're trying to watch while trying to find what you're trying to watch. This is incredibly frustrating. The way it authenticates ends up putting you into a loop that you can't seem to get out or figure out where to navigate, rather than just giving you an authentication button.

App freezes every ad break. Says it's buffering but isn't, so I end up having to restart it and miss half the game. Lots of buffering issues during games, too. Have to try to find my teams game in the full list every time despite preferences knowing which team I follow. Can only watch games live, no option for replay. Only redeeming feature is that sometimes it works, which is more than I can say for the website. Pretty disgraceful considering how much it costs to get access to this.

Whether it's the mobile app or the smart TV app,I always have issues. Error codes telling me I'm not subscribed even though I'm logged in, having to delete the app and reinstall it just to get it to work correctly, constantly having to log out then back in, worst streaming app, especially for a company the size of ESPN. From looking online, I'm not the only one that has these problems.

It's ok. They cover a lot of sports/ leagues, so you can check a ton of scores and standings in one place. The app is stable and doesn't ever have technical difficulties. I find a lot of the box scores and standings tables to be a bit clunky and awkward. The aesthetics are boring. You have to sit through a full ad to watch a highlight or clip, and in some cases the ad is actually longer than the highlight I want to watch. The writing/ content can be a bit dry or negative.

Absolutely terrible for watching games through my ESPN+ subscription which is the only reason I downloaded the app. For the last two games I keep getting an error and can't watch the game. Support claimed that they "Don't have any NHL games on the schedule". When it does work, the audio is out of sync with the video. Only thing that works is the live scores.

Gab. G. Apr 25, 2022

I shouldn't have to watch a 30 second to 1 minute ad for a 15 second clip of someone repeating the video title. Videos keep playing after app is closed. If I accidentally click out of a video and try to reopen the video, I have to re-watch an ad. I have ESPN+ and half the time I still can't access articles or videos that are subscription only. Garbage app, subpar content.

Sam. V. Mar 14, 2022

About the only good thing to say about this app is that it's cheaper this year to watch NHL games this year than last year's NHL+ subscription. Otherwise this ESPN app should be renamed to "There was an error that prevent this video from playing", because that's what came up every time I tried to watch my NHL team the last three times, forcing me to find my game from, err... alternative sources. An update to this app was released the day that my ESPN+ subscription was set to renew, so I was cautiously optimistic. When it was time for the big game, I discovered the app's new name: "Looks like you have already purchased this content". That was this app's new name. So, no renewal for me. When it actually worked the ESPN app was slow, and managed to get pretty much everything wrong that could be gotten wrong, as far as its user interface. I selected which hockey team I followed, so was it too much to expect the app to feature tonight's game up and front, and make it easy to stream the team's telecast in one click? Of course not. That made too much sense. The only difference that made, apparently, was to put up some random bit of team-related news, tucked away in some corner. The home page still showed some random sports event, first, that nobody cared about. Ok, let's say I must make a bunch clicks to pull up a list of all currently live streams: and it's a few minutes before gametime. Maybe, just maybe, I could watch the end of the pre-game show? Nope. The stream becomes accessible at precisely on the o'clock and not a second earlier. If I click on the stream even a second earlier, I get scolded and reminded of the game's starting time. Ok, I have to sit and wait, and count off the seconds, and try again, right? Nope. I have to figure out how to refresh the page, so I can finally get the stream (unless it's in a commercial break), otherwise I still get the same "yo, fella, your game starts a minute ago" popup. And after all that, adding insult to injury: it's a random spin of the wheel whether I get my team's or the opposing team's stream by default. Drawing the short straw means a few more clicks to switch streams. Really, this is amateur hour. And when the stream starts it tends to glitch for a little while, before things settle down. Last year NHL+'s authorized Kodi app gave me perfect, glitch-free streams, 100% of the time, on the same Android TV device where this native ESPN app struggles to get its bearings. It does, after a while, but it's still noticably slower and lagging compared to NHL+'s. Last year NHL+ had nearly every one of my team's games. This year there are many gaps. With ten games into the season ESPN+ did not carry two of them. Fail. But, it's cheap, so I guess I got what I payed for. But I wish I could still pay three times as much for an NHL+ subscription, and their perfect, reliable, high-definition streams without having to suffer through a confusing UI that just threw up its hand, and failed to work, completely, halfway through the season.

Videos on demand not labeled (have to click on every video to figure out which game in the tournament). Does not allow "start from beginning" during live games like other apps do. Curling is still not listed as a sport, so cannot be favorited and forced to search it every time. Does not work well with Chromecast; it quits playing the selected game and starts playing the default video on the home screen.

Mic. J. Apr 24, 2022

The app forces you to re-sign in to your TV provider every week. it's frustrating and annoying to have to do the same thing again and again. And no progress is ever registered on any stream, so never pause for too long or restart, or it's back to the first commercial every time. And no quality options for any stream, so no picking HD or lower for less data. Worst part is, you can see a score or result without meaning to before starting to watch a sports event, kind of ruining the experience.

I'd expect better from the world wide leader in sports. Apps ALWAYS the slowest to load especially when. You try to click on a notification. Trying to look at standings is a waste of time because unless you can go directly straight up and down perfectly you are swapping back and forth between what you want and what the site wants you to read. I honestly try to avoid it at all costs but it's occasionally useful to find what I need. 3 stars for a mediocre experience and what ESPN used to be.

Junk. Can only watch ESPN+ on my phone. Can't watch on any other device, it also won't cast to my tv. Tried using the smart TV app and it wants me to buy it again. I definitely won't be renewing this garbage. It's not worth the headache and hassle of contacting customer support again to fix it. The last time I contacted customer support. It took them forever to locate my account and have me prove that I had an account. The fact that they had trouble locating the account is a red flag!
