Can't give anymore than 1 ⭐ due to not working the last couple of times, worked great the first time I signed up, super quick too but the last 2 visits it just went on a loop after selecting the pump number etc... I uninstalled then re-downloaded and now I can't sign in!! even after a password reset, shame as its pretty decent when it works.
When I worked it seemed OK. Now it's broken. I can't add a payment card. I have emailed them and it's a known issue which is awaiting fixing. 2 stars as they replied promptly but really 1 star for the app as its main purpose is to allow you to pay for fuel, which it does not achieve
Slow and clunky when it decides to work. Not nearly quick enough to use. By the time it's ready I could have filled the tank up. Recently the app has failed to work at all and all I see is 'please wait' and a spinning wheel. After about a minute I have to give up and fill up normally.
Thr security features now make this app painfully slower than paying at the kiosk. Added to that the last few times I have used the app it freeze up. So I then don't know if it has completed the transaction. Meaning I have to relaunch the app and check the history. All in all something of s disappointment currently.
12/4/22 Update....they appear to have addressed the issues and after several visits to Esso, this problem has not happened again, so thank you. Inconsistent - can work ok, but last time I was waiting 5 minutes before I could leave, as the app still said I was filling after I'd finished and I didn't want to pay for the next person's fuel. I eventually went into the station to speak with the cashier. Kinda defeats the object of the app. People behind me were not too happy having to wait either!
Previously unable to log into the app on different phones. Had tried uninstall/reinstall plus changing passwords and nothing worked. Esso reached out to me and I reinstalled app - now it is magically working. As others have said, it is sometimes slow to load the welcome screen. (Google Pixel 4a, Android 12)
Rubbish. Always been a bit dodgy (I would say that I have been able to usd it 60% of the times I wanted; often it would give me a 'pump in use message' when I was the only customer in the station) it has just forcdd me to upgrade when tryinv to make a purchase and promptly stopped working. Removal and reinstall not worked. Steer well clear.
Simply doesn't work The app goes through all the steps to authorise the pump to be used and falls back to selecting pump. Basically waste of time. Edit: being a developer myself contacted your feedback address and provided details as they requested first time and got asked the same questions again. Clearly you don't have a process to accept feedback.
Used the app a few times but I can't add a new payment card. Same issue many others have reported. Wanting everyone to email your customer service department is not good enough. Release a fix to enable adding a payment card. Really poor, would not recommend.
So the app used to open fine but now the app doesn't open at all since installing on my new phone with the latest version of Android. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.. it installs fine, then when you click the app absolutely nothing happens
2nd time now the app has failed to work. 'unable to process paymentethod please try another' considering I can only use PayPal as the app won't accept any of my cards which Esso are aware off. Poor and will be back to shell as at least when their app fails you can swipe your shell card in store
Useless. Could not load payment card. Tried it to see if it has been improved and it hangs with a blank screen.
Great when it is working. Sadly it keeps unlinking the nectar card and I have to verify my card yet again even multiple times a day! Really annoying when you have filled the tank expecting loads of nectar points, only to find its dumped your card again.
Once again another update and the make the app unusable again, asks you to verify yourself several times then hangs waiting to authorize, which it doesn't do so you're sat holding a pump up because they can't get an app to work.
"Welcome to XXX service station". "Start fuelling". "Unable to obtain your location". "Please scan code". "Unable to scan code". Hopeless.
I downloaded this app because I thought it would be quicker than paying in store for my fuel. I was wrong. It had few preset amounts. I put £52 worth of petrol in my car's tank, but the closest amounts to that shown in the app were £40, which wouldn't have been enough, and £70, which would have been too much. I also had to sign in repeatedly with Touch ID, which was proving to be easier said than done on my Samsung Galaxy A71, and, to top it off, it's not compatible with my Mastercard debit card
App does no longer boots up; currently loaded on an Android Nokia, running version 11. Attempted installing app on two other current Android handset but get msg 'This app is not compatible with your device'. That's basically giving the middle finger! Don't have time to faff about with tech team, and not gonna buy a new handset, so the app has to go. An overall poor offering by Esso. Another customer lost. Tesco, Sainsbury's - coming up way...
Card linking doesn't work on Android 12. Update was supposed to fix it but now the update is supposedly available, I can't install it, or get past the 'update' screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled so-called newer version but still invites me to update. This is basic e-commerce app development and testing.
Temperamental. Often asks for verification text codes and takes a while to authorise while sat at the pump. Some locations don't actually facilitate app payments even though they say they do, so you end up losing money into a pre auth then having to pay the cashier instead and wait for the pre auth to release days later. The nectar points incentives don't log all the time so you have to constantly chase to prove your receipts should have points added. Big company, rubbish technology.
Been using it for a long time. But the business of putting an amount in is a stupid idea as it doesn't put in what you specified, and you may not know how much you want in. I can't see the point of it. Like today I wanted to fill the tank I thought 40 might do it but it didn't and it put £38.35 in. I may as well just go in and pay its too long winded now. I read your reasoning but Paypal is unlikely to run out of funds any time soon . It protects both the buyer and the seller.
Doesn't work, pointless app. Unable to locate station, QR scan doesn't work either "unable to proceed with mobile payment" everytime. Nice idea just badly executed. Off to Shell, their app works wonderfully
The app is shocking. Uninstalled after three uses. Doesn't know where you are or can't authorise payment. Waste of time. For something that's supposed to save time it does the complete opposite. Better off using supermarket pay at pump.
What started as a great idea during Covid being able to pay at pump automatically, has been turned into a nightmare. This app has robbed me of money that has taken months to get returned. A dreadful experience with no support from Esso, all issues outsourced to an offshore company who didn't care. I am deleting the app, will advise everyone to AVOID this as once it draws you into a financial nightmare you are left to fight this multinational for months just to get your money back. AVOID
Originally was a very happy customer. I would recommend the app and stations to friends and family. I also would only drive to esso pumps because I liked the app so much (nectar integration etc) but then a root block was applied and now I'm forced to take my custom to Shell and their fill and go app. I urge you to reconsider this decision.
First time user here, i taught this app is perfect, smooth to deal with it, but asking the £100 limit to my money and just full tank my car of £50. After filling up the tank the app still running even i put it back the pump hose to the machine ready for the next driver to fill up there car. What a waste of time to wait until that app filling on. Checking my bank card the transaction charged me £100 instead of £50 only. Hope someone can fix this problem and give my money back.
Incorrectly detects my android device as being rooted and refuses to launch. My device isn't rooted and has the manufacturer supplied image.
App was working fine. If a little long winded.good when your on a motorcycle and all togged up winter gear. But now you just end up with a message telling you to use another payment method, after you've gone through the options.
Not currently fit for purpose. Downloaded to use for quick payment only and have an Esso on the doorstep which does not accept mobile pay. In an hour long journey from Clacton on sea to Mersea I need to pass 5 Esso stations, none of which accept mobile pay. Once this is able to be used I may try again but until then I will stick to Tesco.
What's the point in having a map of Esso stations when the filters don't work? I ended up taking a huge detour to fill with 99 Unleaded as the filtered map isn't up to date... there was actually a station selling 99 on my route!
Very slow. Hanging around waiting for the app to find the garage, more hanging around waiting for it to acknowledge filling has finished and yet more for confirmation payment has been taken. It's much quicker just to go into the shop to pay. I suppose it might be useful if one has forgotten one's phone and can't use Apple or Google pay ... Oh! Wait! No, that won't work! .... So what exactly is the point of this tediously slow app?
