An excellent pairing to your standard natgeo overland map. Update April 30, 2022. I originally paid for a membership in 2017, and have since had numerous issues with access to premium features. Access to these features was made available to me with my 2017 membership, but now seems to be locked behind yearly payments. This seems a poor way to treat long time customers.
The free version works well. DO NOT purchase the premium version. The private property layer (the reason why I purchased the premium version) does not work. If I clear the app data it works again but when I re-launch the app it stops working. The only properties I can see are ones far away from me which makes it pointless to have. The free version is 5 star worthy but do not spend money on this app!
Installed on my Android tablet. Doesn't work. All I get for a map is a black screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled again. Still doesn't work. Uninstalling permanently now. Edit... After being asked to contact customer support, I did. They've ignored my request for help. Very unprofessional. At least this works on my phone. Guess I have to suffer with the tiny screen until I find another app.
Disappears your data, layers, settings, and subscription if you attempt to use both the mobile and web versions of the service. No support. Works great until you login and loose all your premium access and setup. Was preparing for a week of hiking, now realize that this app cannot be trusted. So glad I didn't get burned by this while out in the field. Will be cancelling my premium subscription as soon as I am done typing this.
Very accurate maps showing all the little paths! Have used it in many different countries in Europe, north america and south America. Great to be able to create my trail then download the map around it on my phone as I am often without internet when travelling.
Great app for finding roads and trails off the beaten path. Perfect when we want to get away from it all. Different layers of maps to apply based on our chosen adventure.
I lay out a route then it loses pieces of the route and gets the mileage wrong. Takes a long time to load saved data. App has a long way to go. Paid good money for it. Lots of bugs.
Hands down one of the best backcountry map apps I have used. Easy, simple, loaded with content, no ads, minimal power drain. Completed the jaun de fuca, west coast trail, three brothers, banff/ jasper treks and numerous day hikes. Never an issue. Have recommend to friends/ family
Right now I'm giving only one star because this app can't even give me the right street names in the town I live in. How can I trust this app to be accurate about areas I've never been to when it's not accurate about the areas I already know? I've contacted the developer, let's see if I get any useful info from them. So far I can't find a way to give them updated info so they can correct their maps. If there's a way I'd love to learn it.
Doesn't download maps for offline viewing. The app says it is, but it just shows the download arrow for hours. It's a terrible app that only works half the time.
Properly working map app with some advanced features. It includes also few very useful gadgets, i.e. compass display together with the map or dark theme. Gaia GPS works properly in the wilderness despite poor mobile network coverage (this was a serious issue for other map apps I had installed on my cell phone).
I've used this app on several occasions and 98% of the time it's spot on. No more riding through trails wondering where I am or which way to head out! It makes trail adventures much less stressful.👍🏻
Pretty good. Still has issues. e.g. map keys aren't offline so are unavailable in the back country unless you take screen shots and file them.
It's easy to accidentally download two large an area for maps. If you do this the app will download the area but only patchly. As I went really ham when I first started I found the best way to fix this was to uninstall the app and log in through my web browser and delete all of the downloaded maps and saved maps and waypoints there. Then reinstall the app. And that seems to fix the issue for me. However it shouldn't be possible for this issue to happen!
Best GPS utility, and the only one you need. I use Gaia on every outing to record, and even to plan entire routes. Not only is it one of the most accurate, but it shows all the trails the other apps don't. Add on to that the modest cost model allowing you to save maps offline, and even use 'snap to trail' to get a read on distance / elevation, even while offline makes this is a superstar.
I've been using Gaia for almost 5 years and I've found it to be the best outdoor adventurous mapping app in my opinion. For awhile after a Gaia or Android update, unsure which one, I had an issue with the position arrow lagging badly on both phone and tablet at the same time but was able to resolve that problem recently by factory restoring my Samsung S7 phone and my Samsung 10.1 tablet. I love having layers and the ability to make them transparent on top other maps to view both at same time.
