Yes it's true, this app is absolute trash. On first downloading it, it gives the appearance that it is a polished, well functioning app. But as you actually go about using it, you will run into a host of issues that a company as big as Geico should not be having with such an important app. The DriveEasy feature that gives you a discount for good driving is a complete scam. People here are commenting that it doesn't work, but in reality it's designed to make a good score (discount) unattainable.
Does not work. It has not shown any trips I have taken, but it drains the battery to fast for my taste. However I keep getting threats that my rates will go up. I have turn on all the permissions for this app, something I do not do for most apps. However it does have useful information, so I might leave it on the phone without Drive Easy.
If I want to see my policy or billing info then I'm perfectly content with the app but I'm getting really fed up with losing my streak for the DriveEasy program even when I'm not the one driving. There's no way to actually know if someone is on a bike or a passenger and I'm annoyed with how many times I get dinged. Also can't seem to make the corners or smoothness scores any better no matter what I do.
Over all, the app is just ok. My biggest issue is with the drive easy program. It took several weeks and several times of uninstalling and reinstalling the app to get it to recognize me. Now that it does, it keeps telling me that " I broke my streak" by touching my phone when it's clearly not possible. Several times it's done that when I've been sitting at home and hadn't been in my car for up to 30 minutes.
I really like the app interface. The driving score feature is a pile of garbage. The only time it captures an entire trip is when I'm using my phone in the passenger seat the whole trip, or using maps. It'll also capture the first and last mile of my trip and just draw a straight line between the two points (which is not on any roads). After seeing the performance of this feature, I'd rather have one of those plug in devices that monitor driving like Allstate.
Terrible, it cannot tell if I'm the passenger, never not once, so every time my husband drives I have to go in to the app and change it. But it'll already dinged me for phone use. Oh and the app crashes 90% of the time, so I have to remember to try and go in later, and then it doesn't update right away, or it'll change it back to driver, or it won't show the ride... Just a mess and a pain in the a**. If you can save money elsewhere, do that.
This app is too easy to use. Especially with drive easy. It tracks your trips and you forget it. Problem is, the stupid app is wrong most times. It automatically logs you as a driver...let's be honest, the average person won't remember to go in the app and change their location in the car with every trip. I'm not being discounted for not using my phone. I think it's a trip tracker that gives you a discount for using it. Nothing will convince me otherwise.
I enjoy the convenience of some features, like access to my policy, the ability to make payment plans, and see when bills are coming up. I do not like the drive easy portion of the app because as others have stated, it's not very accurate. I use cruise control on the highway so I know my speed is more consistent than the rating I'm being given and I rarely corner sharply, for example. If your score impacts your policy, the app seriously needs adjustments because that's money for inaccuracies.
I would give it more stars except for one thing: the Drive Easy program. It gave me an excellent score, then dipped drastically to a 77 with no improvement in sight. I've tried working on improving it to no avail. Never had so much as a speeding ticket and it still dings me over "cornering" and "hard braking." I unenrolled because the aggravation is definitely NOT worth a measly $12 discount! Please fix it. Thanks!
1. The DriveEasy program seems as if it's suggesting we should run all the red lights on the road in order to reach a good "smoothness" score. 2. The cornering score doesn't make any sense to me because I almost come to a full stop VERY gradually before I make turns, yet it's still in the low range. 3. I've had to verify my phone number with DriveEasy 5 times in the last 6 days. 4. The battery drain from having to keep my GPS on at all times sucks!
The app is good, and I have been able to manage my policy easily, but the driving score system needs some work. My cornering score stays in the red despite the fact I don't speed around corners. They also need a way to dispute some of the scoring. I had a guy run a stop sign and pull out in front of me that made me slam on my brakes. Now my hard braking score has suddenly gone down drastically despite being a top score for over six months.
This is so horrible. It tracks incorrectly. Tracks even if I'm walking. Even if I'm not driving. I don't speed, I don't take corners speeding or hard break. They really need to fix the app to only track when we are actually driving. It's BS that the scoring is so poor and inaccurate. Seems to be not worth the discount.
App is okay, drive easy feature sucks. Even when all my scores are in the green, my overall score is in the yellow? Doesn't make sense at all. Doesn't do a good job detecting when I'm the driver and when I'm the passenger, but trying to remember to go in and change it every time is a HUGE nuisance. My bf's driving is going towards my score. Drive easy feature needs a lot of work. I also freaking HATE the ugly annoying G that has to live in my notifications for the drive easy feature to work.
I hate the DriveEasy feature, I can't control when I have to drive and I get penalized for traffic. Like I get it's optional, but is it really? If there is a big discount associated with it, and you HAVE to have it active ALL the time to get it. The data is skewed and I feel it's not meant to be favorable to the user, other than that I don't have any problems. Just hate how my score went from a 94 to an 89 when I have been doing the same things, and driving the same roads. Not fair.
Pretty terrible app for an insurance giant. I've enrolled in drive easy probably 20 times in the last 2 weeks and also verified my phone number about that much. The app keeps "forgetting" that I'm already in DriveEasy even though it has record of all my trips since I first started. At this point I'm thinking to switch to progressive so I can just use their plug in monitor and not deal with this dumpster fire of an app.
The app calculates your driving score based on 4 main parts. Where this app fails is hard cornering and smoothness. I have a red hard cornering score but it never shows me where this is happening. My husband has a straight drive in to work and he something has a bad cornering score (he only drives to work and home). Also the smoothness score. It says to use your cruise control but fails to take into consideration road conditions & other drivers. I cannot use cruise with stop n go traffic
I am not a fan of the app . I have it for the drive easy discount. I live in the mountains and it says I take the curves too fast which is ridiculous. If I took them any slower I would create an accident. It is all of a sudden saying I brake hard, but I took a turn and went a hundred feet stopped to turn again. I never made it over 20 miles per hour. I know the turn and don't need to break hard. This is frustrating.
Takes forever to load my the log in screen. Stuck on spin for minutes on end. Yes, I've forced stop and restarted. Yes, the app is updated. Yes, I'm thinking about switching. Allstate said they charge for how much you drive. Yall should look into that without the issue of deficient location tracking.
The scoring metrics are flawed. There are a lot of stop signs in my neighborhood and I get penalized for stopping at them which is really bizarre. I've been driving the same route for months and you would think the app would 'remember' stop signs if I stop at the same corners every single day. I also agree with others that mentioned being penalized for hard braking, despite it not being the case. The app is only so intuitive in some aspects.
Very happy! This app/website was so easy to understand and worked flawlessly. After dealing with another insurance app..... let's just call them "Regressive" 🤔🤭😂 I was ready to throw my phone and scream!!! So cluttered and confusing. Anyway, using this app was my last ditch effort to get some quotes. I really quickly wound up getting my quotes and switching over to Geico and so far I'm happy I did. This was much easier and faster to get done (from start to finish it took less than 2hrs!!!)
I don't feel that it correctly logs you're driving. It speaks of Curves when I haven't been around a curve or speaks of maintaining speed when it's impossible to do in heavy traffic. Lowering my grade for cornering when I constantly look at the speedometer and I never go faster than 0 to 5 mph when cornering yet it claims I corner to fast. The app takes nothing into consideration when it comes to traffic. I don't feel as though the app gives a good representation of your driving.
Constantly crashes. This app suggests that one should be a perfect driver just to see an increase in the score. It doesn't seem to recognize that speed zones do change. They change even more regularly dependant upon the direction of travel. This app is designed to keep your score low no matter how safe or well you drive.
Nice to have a visual check to remind you of good driving habits. Unfortunately the "hard brake" keeps score even if brakes are tapped for ducks crossing the road. That item needs revision. I wish everyone had a visual reminder about cell phone and texting. Insurance rates should reflect higher rates for texters!
I'm not a fan of the criteria it uses for hard breaking. I used a similar app for progressive and had a near perfect score. I get dinged on this one all the time for breaking too hard. Apparently the cut off is decelerating faster than 7mps, but it seems MUCH lower in.
As far as viewing my policy and insurance cards it works great but I constantly have to sign in everyday, sometime multiple times a day. Can't change settings and view any other part of the app cause it's always temporarily unavailable. Messing with the app is more work then the actual discount u would get for using it. My score continues to drop even tho I drive my car maybe 10 miles to and from work a day and that's it. If not fixed soon I'll be dropping the drive easy app all together.
Drive Easy app is not scoring my driving right. It says I brake to hard when I always lightly ease into coming to a stop and it says I take turns to hard which Honestly if I took the turns any slower I'd only be doing 10 miles per hour. I saw other reviews on the drive easy app and many of them had the same issues I'm having. Positives of this app are: makes paying my bill very easy, it keeps me updated on all the recalls and maintenance on my car, and roadside is easy to access and use.
In the mobile app, when it says you broke your distraction-free driving, but you can choose the option to say not the driver, passenger, and so on, and most of the reasons are that the phone was used while driving, but there's no option, to choose a real reason why, if you have a 10-year-old sitting in your passenger seat that wants to listen to music, she uses my phone while I drive, this shouldn't be as phone handle from driver, there should be an option for the driver not using the phone.
Does not feel accurate at all. It counts trips where I am a passenger. I constantly have to go in & manually change my status, selecting that I was the passenger & not the driver, so it doesn'tcount the trip. ALSO, This app drains my battery FULLY to 0% 3 × a day & I have to charge my phone 3 times a day! EVERY DAY. It gets old & it's so frustrating that I'm not sure it's worth the discount of a few dollars a month. I will give it one more month, but not very hopeful that it will change.
App is extremely buggy and doesn't launch since I enrolled in DriveEasy. I have now Uninstalled and installed 3 times. If you can't make a feature work properly, don't kill an entire app because of it. Geico app is critical as insurance owner and if I can't even launch it in the time of need or accident, what use is DriveEasy? Fix it!!
this app is easy to use, many useful features. However, there are some points that I think will bring the app even better if they can improve it. First, it drain out phone battery so fast because run in the background. Second, on the road I go to work every day limit speed 30 miles, no matter how slow or careful I drive, I still receive very low score at corners turn and smooth, and many time I have hard brake show up in the app even I don't.
