Honolulu Star-Advertiser

This app has the most aggressive ads format I've ever experienced. It displays full page ads when you first open the app and frequently when viewing articles. Some video ads can't be closed and has to be viewed in its entirety. On top of that, the FULL PAGE AD has to be closed to continue reading the article. It's very annoying using this app. Being a subscriber makes no difference. It's not an enjoyable experience reading the news with this app. I guess that's why it's called Star-"ADVERTISER".

Slow loading. The current news database updates quickly. It's the print replica that I have problems. Sometimes the newspaper loads very slowly. Or not at all so I have to go back to live news and then try print replica again. Now the print replica gets annoying pop-up ads. Dismiss the pop-up and the screen goes into a continuous update wait until I stop the app.

It's more convenient to read the news on my phone rather than toting the newspaper around. I like the print replica version as it's very familiar. For persons who are vision- impaired, they can read the newspaper on their computer and increase the print size. And there's no more sneaking out to the curb in my pajamas to pick up the paper!

Terrible, terrible app. Way too many glitches. Absolutely NOT seamless to navigate. When expanding article, screen goes white. Listings are off line (such as the classifieds having their words shifted on top of each other making it highly illegible). I've been using this app for a year and it is hands down the worst app I've ever used, especially considering it's a PAID service.

Since the latest update, obnoxious full-screen ads pop up within seconds of opening each and every story, I'm forced to log in again (to my paid account) after every 4-5 stories, and the whole app crashes at least once per visit. The multiple text size options include small, small, and small, and HUGE, HUGE, and HUGE. I deleted the app today and will return to the web-based version.

Horrific app. Ads galore despite being an SA subscriber. Keeps auto scrolling back to top unless you keep your finger on the screen. Crashes every time I try to open an alert and I then need to go back and find the article manually with the terrible search engine they use. On top of it all I feel SA content is becoming as biased as CNN or Fox News, their content is greatly declining. Getting fed up with SA as a whole.

This is the only app I know that when you PAY for a subscription, you still get constantly bombarded with pop up ads.

App has begun forcing full screen video adds with sound on at random times when you select an article. You can't turn them off for several seconds. This is with a paid account. Time to cancel my subscription and dump the app.

With each update, the app gets worse. Now it is just a hot mess with duplicate notifications, blank notifications and unnecessary features that impede your ability to read local news. Time to fire the developer and start over.

Can't highlight a particular word using my Android to search Google Dictionary to lookup the meanings for when they made the update to this app, and the advertisements are just unnecessary distractions. But, we all know how that work's, right!

I have have a digital subscription I shouldn't have advertising throughout an article. Difficult to read. Be an innovater. Create your on app. Everytime I open the app I get at least one spam. You advertising sometimes looks like news, shame on you.

The app used to work fine on my old Android phone I just got a new Google pixel 4a 5G phone and the app transferred over but every time you open it, it opens for a few seconds then closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the same thing still happens. Anyone know if this app works on this type of phone?

App has been terrible since up grade. Reinstall was no better. It only allows 30 seconds of reading time before it shuts down. I've been waiting for a fix, but no improvement for 2 weeks now.

Lousy app. Screen takes forever to focus. Navigating often freezes the screen. What can we do? We are at the mercy of this lousy app. This is not a enjoyable way to read the news. Maybe I'll go back to printed newspaper. Aug 2020 update: This is still a crappy app.

Like that I get Notification but when I open it, it doesn't go straight to that particular article. I have to scroll and usually give up trying to find that update that I got notified on.

Updated frequently. Basic e reader does not allow text size adjustments, making it hard to read. Using investigative research from Civil Beat from time to time help credibly.

This is the first news app I go to every day. The format is easy to navigate. The news updates very timely. Overall, my daily go to news source.

Ad pops up everytime I click on a new article. Thumbs down all the way for this alone, much less the update to the format of the app. I'd give this 0 stars if it were an option.

I like the up to date news reports that a digital edition should have. Being from Hawaii originally I look forward to reading the local and other island news. Thanks for keeping me informed and up to date with news.

The Star Advertiser app presents the news in a great format. I really like how easy it is to find out what is going on in the world/ nation and especially Hawaii. Good job and great reporting.

App says I have an invalid subscription. Ver. 3.2.50. Subscription works in browesr. I cleared storage and cache and it still doesn't work.

Great way to stay in touch with the pulse of my home town. Growing up there and now a frequent visitor with many friends still living there, it's nice to see what's going on in politics, entertainment, sports, growth and everything else about the islands.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser app serves up the local news in a convenient way. The app design works well and keeps you up-to-date.

I'm able to keep up with the news at a glance! Sometimes unable to refresh but overall very useful!!

I have a paid subscription and app keeps shutting down while reading. And so many ads. Please fix!

pretty good but at times in the middle of reading an article it defaults out and ask's me to log back in, annoying.

they want people to download the app and then you can enter the football fever contest.... problem is that on the app you can select only one game!! isn't that FalseAdvertiser?

The Honolulu Star Advertiser exemplifies the highest standards of journalism. Their news present balanced reports, content is timely and content of current interest.

User friendly! Live on the Big Island. Star Advertiser newspaper is not always available. This app solves my problem.
