Kalimba

A fast and easy to play kalimba simulator.
Play notes by sliding your finger over the tines. You can play multiple tines at the same time.

This is not a piano, it will not play by tapping.

I love its simplicity and how you can play in portrait or landscape mode, adjust the keys and labels to your preference. The 'thank you' note made me rate this app - nice, positive touch! It'd be great to have the option to tap the keys instead though. The sliding motion I have to make slows me down so much, and it doesn't register properly sometimes - other than that, this app is cool. :)

Works great. i saw a review complaining about having to tap several times. it wants you to slide your finger down to simulate playing an actual kalimba. I'd suggest the developer switch it to accept taps because sliding doesn't offer any benefit. Also, my phone is tall, so playing in landscape is a bit uncomfortable. That's more my phone's fault than the app, but it'd be nice if it could change to portrait mode and the keys would occupy the bottom half of the screen.

I really LOVE the Kalimba app. It's simple to use and, best of all, NO ADS! I'd easily give it 5 STARS, save for one issue. It's slow to respond to the swipe motion required to simulate the picking of the keys/tines. To improve performance, I think there should be a key "tapping" option. Thank you, developer(s), for a WONDERFUL app.

Technically, it is a well made app. Sensitive and responsive to every touch. The sound is good and it works well even up to 190 BPM (I tried playing it single note at a time, two notes at a time, and two alternate notes at a time). I wish it has something like a graphic effect whenever the screen is touched (like fruit ninja) that can be turned on/off.

Very nice! First thing I thought when I saw this was "this is a genius idea, it's the perfect phone instrument!!! It almost perfectly transfers over to a phone experience. I'm getting used to the way it fits in my hands though, I'm used to these things being thinner, something that can fit more easily between my hands. I actually expected this to be an upright interface not sideways which disappointed me a bit. Probably just my preference though, I'm not exactly an expert at playing this instrument. But it's still very therapeutic. 10/10 for that aspect. Also appreciate the ability to glissando! I love this app idea, I'm like obsessed now. 10/10 for genius app idea

The app is good and it works great. The only problem is that, in landscape mode, even if I zoom it out completely, the last two keys on the left and right (D on the left and E on the right) get cut off. I have a 2015 Samsung Galaxy Tab A btw, its screen is 768x1024px. Maybe you could add a farther zoom out functionality. 😊

Works great for the low price of free. I've been playing Avatar's Love on this app and it sounds right. Plus the app has no ads (as of writing this review who knows if that will change). Great tool for figuring out if you wanna learn the kalimba and buy a real one. My only complaint would be a slight latency between sliding on the notes and the sound playing but that could be from my phone having too much used space. Tl:dr 10/10 has minor issues but works great for a free app.

I just now got this app and I already like it. I guess you have to get a hang of the instrument before you can really play it comfortably, but that's not the app's fault, of course. It's easy to play most of the time, although I've found you can't play it very fast. Sometimes it doesn't register that you're pressing a key, sometimes it gets mixed up with another one. Maybe add where you can choose how spaced out the pegs are? Another thing, it would be cool if you could record yourself somehow.

It's a bit awkward to play an instrument like this on a touch screen sometimes, so i feel like it could use a mode where it plays the note after tapping on the key instead of swiping it. Which is less realistic but it would be nice! Also, the option to transpose the instrument would be cool too!

As good as can be hoped. I like that you have to pull downwards to make a noise, a bit like a real kalimba. Also glad you can hide the note labels; my real kalimba doesn't have them and I find it distracting. Only thing I miss is it's really hard to get two notes to play with one finger; I have fat thumbs and am used to playing two notes at once regularly, and I can't really do that here. Great little app though.

When I downloaded this app it made me wanna buy a kalimba. It's really easy to use and it loads fast. What i like about this app is you can change the markings of the notes. But this app would be great if they would add a feature that changes the key tones so that we could play other songs on other keys.

This app works pretty great I like the feel of it the sound is nice and the zoom function is cool. Being able to choose what key the kalimba play in would be neat. I do I think the Image could be a little sharper. Although I really like the fact that the app doesn't have too many features. The app is pretty awesome already.

As a seasoned musician, I think this app is a wonderful adaptation of the classical instrument. The fact that they programed in the downward flick motion to emulate playing a real one was a beautiful touch, if I could suggest one improvement it would be maybe code in a way where the screen will vibrate on touch when a note is played and in that notes proximity but I'm really cherry picking here. Fantastic work I will be looking into your other projects.

I am in love with this app. Though it lacks the wooden-ish sound and can't be tuned , I give it 5 stars because it is as good as the real one. The song which do not need tuning sound almost exactly like the real klimba . it is very fun and the size of the keys/ tines are adjustable and You can set the mode for necessary markings along with the marking of either alphabets, numbers or scale/notes. Overall its a great app to practice or play unless you need to play on acrylic or with tuning

It's a simple app, you just play and it sounds beautiful. I am considering buying a kalimba, and this is helping me see if I will actually enjoy playing the real thing. I recommend maybe having some preset songs for beginners like me, so we can play a bit and actually start somewhere. Anyways, it's a simple, yet nice app. I haven't seen any ads yet, so, I guess that's also a plus.

I love the app I am planning to buy a Kalimba so soon but wanted to learn first so that I won't waste money. I can see that its almost sound the same with the real one, it's tuned and very easy to use the only problem is when tapping the with various buttons at the same time but I do understand that smartphones aren't always capable from what I demand. Enjoyed it and thumbs up

probably the simplest instrument on the simplest app. this isn't a bad thing AT ALL. Every other music instrument app is filled to the brim with adds and try this try that stuff, but this is really simple, allows me to just dick around and play what I want. I will say though that the tone might need to be tweaked a little at higher volumes. but great app anyways I

It did what I wanted: make epic music. You can have it blank, or add things to help you. You can add the notes as (abc), (doremi), or (123). You can also add the blue tapes. I would just say add a tapping setting for people who are having trouble and tuning setting to tune to the chord people want. Overall great :]

It's great! It sounded like a real kalimba! However I think the keys are only available at C and I'm finding it difficult to adjust since I also want to play other songs. I hope that you would develop a hammer-like tool to adjust the tongues of the kalimba to other preferred keys and also make an option for people if they would want to tap or slide the kalimba. Other than that, it's really good and I love it!!! Good job and keep safe this pandemic! :>>

its good but touch sensitivity is poor at times. and the app doesnt allow you to rotate landscape view on both sides, the landscape view will only face the left side and you cant rotate landscape view to be on the right side, which is annoying because my headphones gets in the way on that left side. There is a portrait view but i dont care about that because the tines become too small and thus useless for playability. The only positive thing about this app is that the sound quality is excellent.

one of my favourite apps. developer made this in mind of people rather than a money grab which I love, no pesky ads. simplistically perfect. great job. edit: I see a lot of critical reviews saying it does not work. idk if it was a minor bug that has now been fixed or a problem with the peoples devices themselves but I have never had any problems with this app. and as for existing the app, you just need to push your phones home button. I thought that was a bit obvious but maybe not. Oppo r11s

This app is truly amazing. I'm not trained musically, nor have I learnt the Kalimba chords. I find that playing this is useful to just relax after a stressful day or set an intention for work or meditation. Turns every which way and no issues so far. Have been using it nearly daily for a month.

It is a great app! Some people might not like the sliding but I definetly do! A little suggestion: Make it so you can use different keys at the same time. For example you cant use 4-2 at the same time it just comes out as one sound not both. Overall If I had thr money I would definetly buy this app! Five stars ^^

This app is great is you are sad from being alone and you desperately need the stimulation of a relaxing instrument to calm your overwhelming thoughts (or lack thereof). I love it an it helps me sleep. I wish the devs added different scales so I could play more songs, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the app didn't change much because it's already great <3. I also like that the devs added a thank you at the top because it is a personal touch not often seen in free apps like this one.

Sound is very smooth and clear, and the sliding feature is a great touch. I use it through my day when I'm anxious or stressed and it helps a lot, gives me something to distract myself with. Only wish I could change the color of the guide lines and the wood, but it isn't lacking. Very good app!

Ok, I get what you're going for with the whole " We want it to be like a real kalimba and have you slide down to play a note" thing, but it's not doing it for me. Here's what you should do. Add a mode where we can just tap the note to play it, while still have a realistic mode on it too. Other than that, once app! And the kalimba sounds beautiful!

Mat. M. May 19, 2020

At last my kalimba has arrived & now I have the perfect app to practice with even if I'm not home with it. I find it nice that I can adjust the width of the array of tongues so I'm not going to develop different muscle memory while practicing, I should be able to switch back to my actual kalimba with zero issue. Very cool.

Sam. J. Mar 9, 2020

Great sound, but it would be great if you can have the ability to toggle tapping mode, and have more features like tabsheet where you can compose music and share them with other or download other tabsheet to learn to play, but all in all, it is a GREAT App! Kuddos to the dev!

Lad. R. Sep 26, 2020

Just downloaded and its been amazing so far! Extremely relaxing and very easy to modify the look/feel of the "digital kalimba", if you would. It looks great style wise(very realistic for a phone app), very easy to adjust layout for playing, and it sounds gorgeous.

Good for basic learning on the go. Display and sound quality is good. Another detail is that the keys don't work with tap, but by gliding down, very much like real device. There could be a vibrating feedback on the keys to understand better.
