Though the app in itself is pretty cool. Trying to learn how to play on a real one with this app is infuriating. It will say that you didn't do the right note, or completely skip a note it thinks I might have played. I figured new kalimba maybe a tune up. Still didn't work. This is not a good learning application if you are using a real one. Which is why I even installed it. Some song notes are also incorrectly done. They don't sound right and don't match the song.
Not great... Notes for songs are incorrect. The note recognition to play along is okay at best, and frequently doesn't recognize correct notes, and occasionally recognizes wrong notes as correct. It's a fun app to mess around with if you don't have a kalimba, I'm sure. As for someone looking for an app to learn a few songs from, I'd give it a pass.
The experience was great! The only thing of my concern was the ads. I would rather personalize the ads I am seeing because some aren't what I want to see usually. The other thing of my concern is the screen. I don't think doing the kalimba really works best horizontally (maybe it's just me). It will seem more like the kalimba vertically.
Good system so far, the ads are crazy a lot for the free version. Understandable but it's almost every click. Long ads in getting into and after playing a song. I also have issues with the pricing.. previously it's $1.99/month 12% of yearly, I'm new to kalimba and want to try the full experience out (and it'd take more than the 3 trial days) the item wasn't found, complained and it's fixed.. which is nice but with the new more than doubled price that's 26%of yearly... I'm disappointed by that...
it has so much potential! but does not work to help me learn. notes play themselves quite often, so i have to skip notes to be correct. and the listening feature is very cool, but i found myself plucking the same tine over and over trying to get it to register. it just needs a little more polish!!
Every time I would click anything an ad would pop up (the same ad every time). I attempted the daily challenge and succeeded the first 2 parts before wanting another song. After several attempts to exit the challenge tab and many ad repeats later i I selected a song only to be sent directly back to the daily challenges again (after another ad) with none of my previous challenge progress saved. I attempted this several times again with no differences in outcome. Don't waste your time.
The overall experience seems a bit muggy... The notes come down to guide you where to press but when they do the animation is so bad they just stop making you think the app is lagging. Lots of songs i couldn't recognize because most of them are foreign and the kalmiba sounds very flat and doesn't produce the depth of sound I heard it do in real life.
Really would like to give 5 stars but the app lags so much that it can be frustrating. I use this app because I've had trouble finding tabs to use with my real kalimba. This app features a lot of good music. If you don't buy the app or subscribe the ads are obnoxious and frequent, and the best songs (imo) will be locked. Overall enjoyable app, could use some bug fixes. Helps me learn to play cool songs so I can show off on my actual kalimba one day 😁
I really appreciate this app bc it suits my creative heart during my downtime if i dont have an instrument around. It sounds really cute as well. I enjoy the large music selection and the ability to freeplay. I have one important critique which is that it doesnt have a metronome to help accuracy. I dont really care for the points but i really enjoy just learning the song and making it sound good. Adding a metronome to this app to suit the tempo that is set by the player would make me so happy!
Riddled with ads. I don't mind ads on a free app. But I close an ad and then another opens right away. UI is horrible and poorly designed. Everything about the functionality is awful. It starts me off with a song that i didn't choose and I go back, it says I have to pay vip to use that same song? Uninstalled
Pretty decent app. You have a nice song selection for free, and even more if you pay - if you're looking to learn how to play I'd recommend pick any song you like and starting from there. The tuner is also pretty accurate, and helped me tune my own kalimba with the not-so-bad sound recognition. For the price of free, I'd recommend anyone to try it.
This is the best kalimba app out there as of July 31 2020....HOWEVER the option to use the microphone to play your own kalimba needs work...it picks up EVER little noise and messes it up. It also fails to recognize my notes...I go to my tuner and it is perfect on key...I'm new to the kalimba but very proficient in reading music and tuning my regularly played instruments. I hope they fix this issue as it interferes with playing along with the scrolling notes. Please fix for 5 stars.
It is perfect, it works well and it does an amazing job listing to your kalimba play. The only problem wis when you use the scale feature in the app it only shows sharps, no flats and it changes every note rather than just adding sharps to the notes that need it.
This is more a game than an app to teach you how to play a real kalimba. Hitting a note will play a chord of notes instead of that note depending on where you are in a song, and there is no way to turn thay off. The Kalimba Real app does this right - it has an option to play chords for you, but always shows you what notes it is playing, and its optional and sounds fine without it. This app hides all that from you, only good if it comes with magical forces to duet with you on a real instrament...
The advantage of this app is its big collection of songs to play. It encourages me to use it more during my study break. I got my first 17key kalimba & struggle to learn playing it because I can't read the kalimba tab. This app keeps my interest alive while I'm finguring out my issue. The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are (1) horrible at picking up sound from the real kalimba (2) wish i could request certain songs to be made & added to library, that will make me love it even more.
It's really good. I like how when you don't tap on the thing it stops so you have an opportunity to tap it once again. I also like how you don't have to think of a song to play songs it's hard to follow instructions but it chooses songs for you! I definitely recommend this!
Cool app but way too buggy for the price. I use it to practice with my real kalimba and it constantly won't load songs and gives me an error message. Would also be nice to be able to get the sheet music of the songs for premium members.
I want to like it but it wont pick up any of my notes(maybe 1/2 outta every 50 times I hit a note) no matter how I hit them. thought maybe my kalimba is out of tune so I checked it with another app and touched up its tuning.. nope still not picking up anything. I'd normally say its prolly my phone not picking it up but the tuner apps pick it up just fine...so idk?fix that and this would easily be a 5 stars for me.
Its a follow along while you learn as you game concept. Lots of music with some need to pay to access. The note recognition don't work very well if you play the game while playing with a real kalimba. It'll be great if this is fixed plus some level of difficult on the music too.
Total Scam. The app won't pick up notes, the "sheet music" is blatantly wrong, and the UI is horrendous. I bought premium just to try the app without an ad every 8 seconds. I'm pretty upset to have wasted the money.
I really do like this app. But I do find it still doesn't recognize my keys sometimes when I hit them. (So I have to hit it twice) however I really like the app as a visual learner. I hope there will be more music on the app soon. :)
It's okay for my autistic child, but he prefers the clunking sound compared to the melodious ringing of a real kalimba in which I own. Huge battery drainer though. Did 3 songs in maybe 7 minutes and went from 95% down to 30% and this was the only app open (I hibernate all my apps constantly)
Good kalimba app, have many songs to play but with many advertisement, and premium songs to buy. But u can freely play the kalimba with advertisement of course. The minus is the middle notes, do, re and mi.. not sound correctly, and song with 1 or 3 wrong notes.
They have some neat songs but the ones with a drum symbol will not work! Even after the load screen says 100%. Nothing happens and it doesn't go away. I can't even back out of the app.
The sensing is impossible to play with because it won't pick up your notes in time to the sheet music. It needs to pause to "hear" each individual note, so you can't actually play to the pace of the song showing. Worse, there are too many ads everywhere- opening a song, closing a song, browsing songs... and most decent songs are premium only so there you go
