Takes a credit if I watch 30 seconds of a film; then takes another credit when I decide a few weeks later that I might as well watch the movie that cost me 1 credit. Also, can't fast-forward. Play/pause button should be in center of screen for necessary quick actions (ie. someone walking into room and speaking) On the other hand, selection is very impressive.

I like the way this app enables me to save my favorite video's to a separate "watch list" and is so easy to navigate to the required catorgaries. A pleasant experience all the time, so easy and not as complex as other video application. Thank you for your work in creating something that truly does function.

A fantastic alternative to the mindless content from streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video. Kanopy features TRULY intellectual content including rich cinema, documentaries, short films, avante garde, and even lecture courses to name a few. The video player could be improved slightly (rotation doesnt lock) and there are some DRM errors that freeze the video sometimes. But these are mostly nitpicks. If you want to only watch thoughtful media, download this app.

I am literally trying to watch a movie for college. It keeps cutting off and saying "it has a problem playing protected content" and I have to reload it every time! Subtitles also cut off each time and the video will not fill my whole screen. How come everyone else can do streaming apps but these people can't?

Too many errors. I have an excellent internet connection yet the app can't recognize it. The few times last month I actually could watch, playback was poor. When I first installed the app there were few problems but now it's too aggravating. Uninstalled. (Up to date Samsung Galaxy S7 cell.) Perhaps, though, I should give it a whirl on my iPad, I hate to see it go as I think the movie selection is very good.

I just found out recently that my local library allows borrowing through this excellent resource. It is very useful especially while being required to be indoors. As a free offering, it is difficult to complain but there is room for improvement. I've had issues with resuming playback on borrowed items especially when using a new device or the web. I've also had a glitch where the option for captions disappeared and then reappeared. That said, my experience has been very positive!

± I really appreciate having access to a ton of quality instructional videos, documentaries, and movies! ± The app is very user friendly and is sorted by different interests. Please continue to work on the app since, like many others have stated before, there are still a few bugs (nothing too major, just a few annoyances). I definitely agree with having the "My Watchlist" continue on the last episode that you watched instead of having to scroll though the whole series. Overall, great app!!!

It's a nicely laid-out design with a good selection of films and shorts, but video playback on my tablet is extremely glitchy, and never is in HD. Netflix, Amazon and VRV all play fine at 720p or 1080p, so no reason why this shouldn't be able to do it, to. Also, closed captioning and/or subtitles are a mess, with timing off on every movie I've seen so far. Both on this app and the Roku app.

Terrific! A free video streaming service. Limited to eight films a month, but not all films count towards the limit. The resolution is okay, it supports chromecast, but no download option so it's streaming only. The films on offer are mainly documentaries, indie films, art house, and foreign films, so if you're into that, you'll love it! There are mainstream films and kid's section too. Membership is via your local library. Only one negative: unlike Web version, the app does not show comments.

I'm sorry but I cannot give this app more than one star. As some other folks mentioned, I got excited and compiled a huge list of items to watch -- mostly documentaries which was fine. I then connect to my college library and suddenly can't watch half of what I saved. When casting on Chromecast, it constantly freezes and now I have a persistent error despite restarting the app. At this point, I completely give up and will not bother with this anymore.

Great idea, great content, but basic app features don't work. I click the plus sign to add a video to my watch list, but the list stays empty. If I add items using the website in desktop mode those titles will show up in my list in the app, but if I try to remove them on the website I get an error (and none of that works on the mobile site, it just tells you to use the app). Also, the app's back button doesn't work, I have to use the phone's back button. Really basic stuff, can't recommend as-is

I was really excited to start watching films on this app, I compiled a list of 60 in my watchlist in the first 20 minutes. Then I tried to log in on the computer and it only showed like 10 films available (in total, not even on the watchlist). I tried going back to the app and the same thing happened... and the entire watchlist was deleted. I'm really annoyed with this and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone until the bug is fixed.

I really love this app, when it works right... There is a problem where the watchlist doesn't display right. I've told them about it multiple times, but so far the problem keeps happening. I like the mix of movies and they usually play well. I would like to see the watchlist work correctly. If that's fixed, I'll go back to a 5 star rating.

I like the Great Courses. The "Continue Watching" tab needs improvement. It does not show series I have been watching- only individual episodes I have begun and have not watched all the way through. I struggled to find a course I started watching as it was not listed here, and I couldn't remember the title of the series. One workaround is adding to "My Watchlist", but my list is long. So now I intentionally don't finish an episode or start the next one and stop it so I can remember where I'm at.

Great videos, the app is a little buggy, though. Casting to TV didn't work very well - the video would periodically stop for a few seconds while the sound kept going. Also, flipping in and out of the app (eg. to read a txt) causes the video to stop and ask you to reload. Lots of interesting stuff to watch, though! My public library gives access for free to a limited number per month.

Excellent selection. Unfortunately, being limited by my library to 5 a month, I need to avoid short films of 15 to 20 mins. I think Kanopy should limit by time, such as 8 hrs of shows total or something to that effect. Not by downloads or replays of course, because as I study documentaries and non fiction items a lot, rewinding and replaying is important. The pause and rewind buttons sometimes don't really function and I find myself touching that area of the screen multiple times.

Love this app and tne wide range of free movies on offer. Excellent range and am enjoying dabbling in the Great Courses too. Have recommended it to several people. Use an old Chromecast to send it to my TV and it connects seamlessly. At first was annoyed I couldn't do it directly through a TV app but this connection is so quick and easy it's not a problem. Note that you will need to be a member of a participating library.

Kanopy Works quite well, without any problems, under normal circumstances. I especially like that has an icon I can tap to move the film 10 seconds backwards. I wish there were another icon to move the film 10 seconds forward. I don't know if it's technically possible, but it would be nice also to be able to pause a film and zoom in on one part of the screen.

Dav. H. Nov 8, 2021

I love the selection available in Kanopy. One thing that the app could use improvement with is that there doesn't seem to be a viable way to turn captions on while using it with a Chromecast. Tonight I tried this with my Pixel phone and with my iPad, and couldn't get them working while casting from either device. There's a cc button in the player window but pushing it doesn't do anything.

Three stars, but could be four. This is a great app which weeds out a lot of low-quality movies and leaves respectable motion pictures. Discoveries abound! This month I'm noticing my monthly allowance of 4 credits went down to 2, probably because I had two movies started and unfinished from last month. But now it's down to 1 credit and I haven't watched anything. Odd. Good thing a new month is almost here.

Great resource!! It's missing a few video player features that would make this app exceptional - the most important to me being the ability to watch at faster speeds. It'd also be good to have the video player run in the background while the user has other apps open or turns the screen off - I would use this for educational videos that I'm mostly listening to more than watching. Overall a great app.

I regularly have problems with this app but I've never had any trouble with any other streaming app whether library based or commercial, at most 5%, - 10%, of the videos watched with it played without problems. I gave it 3 stars only because it has a good video library and most problems, like the app crashing, app features becoming suddenly unusable, and the video suddenly becoming unfocused are easy & quick to fix once you figure out how to, but it's still the worst streaming app I've used

Great that the libraries provide this option. Harder to watch, though, as Pause and Play are in awkward places (bottom left of screen), Rewind is long at 30 seconds, and there is no Forward. Prefer Netflix style of watching with Pause & Play in middle of screen where it's easy to access with either hand and there are both a Rewind and a Fwd option of only 10 seconds. Usually only need to rewind to hear what someone said or what was shown on screen only a few seconds ago. Otherwise, love that t

The most amazing content, which I'm sure is related to my library. I've learned a lot from the Great Courses. I've noticed that I get a playback error every 2 minutes if I leave the app and come back. Closing the app resolves the issue, so easily resolved. I wish there was a way to watch while offline like most streaming services.

I would give this app five stars except that it limits how many videos you watch in a month to just ten. Other than that, it's a wonderful app with a great variety of programs. I'm glad that the spikes peak library district recommended it to me. Not only can I access PPLD`s video selection but I can also access Pikes Peak Community College's video selection. An added bonus.
