MSN News - Breaking Headlines

It's a good app. But I'm uninstalling it because it's always in the first place in the list of the power consuming apps on my phone, even if I don't open it a whole day. And there is a great difference between it and the app in the second place in this list. So guys you have to reduce it's power consumption when in background, like Google news app.

For months now, sometimes while attempting to view articles, the app freezes and then crashes. Sometimes I can restart the app and it will work. Other times it just crashes again. The other issue I have with the app is when it first opens, the articles may be days old. If I refresh, I get newer articles.

Honestly, it's still one of the better news aggregate apps I've ever used, although it's honestly fallen quite a bit from when it was the MSN News app. It's not as responsive or as easy to navigate, and the name is, um... *terrible* and not at all descriptive. I know it has other features now, but I've never had any interest in exploring them.

The app is now functioning better, part of this might be switching from a Galaxy S8 to S20. Honestly I'm not a fan of the direction this app is going. I honestly don't want them to integrate the browser the way they have (to the point of offering to make it your default browser) etc. I feel the new direction made the product more complicated and messy rather than less so. Microsoft please focus on having a need app, Edge is a great browser.

This is a fairly good app, and it mimics the site on my desktop. The problem is that it shuts down randomly on the Pixel 6. It might be in the middle of reading an article, or scrolling through stories, or clicking on a link. There is no rhyme or reason to it, that I can see. The constant crashing makes me not use it, and gets me to consider uninstalling it.

Edited review. The problem I experienced was fixed a number of weeks later. It's still a little annoying that I see 1, 2 or 3 day old articles at the top of the feed instead of the latest. Refreshing does change the content, but a second or third refresh will bring the old articles back again. I don't know why so many developers think we want popular content in our news feeds rather than chronological. At least give me an option to customize that.

So hard to use for no reason. It can show you want, but it doesn't ever just do that. Click notification, welcome to the start page?!?! Literally have to search for what you want 99% of the time. At least it is on there, though. Use to be so good too... Before Start Fixed: the notification issue, but still bloated with unnecessary non-news content, especially since it also infected the Bing app

Remove 3 trackers!!!!! Should be zero!!! Feeds never stay. To many ads. Can't copy text within article. Can't use your own default browser. Too many weird cluttered UI choices. Way better readers out there!

If this app worked consistantly it would get 5 stars, but sometimes it freezes, never getting past the opening screen. Probably 1 out of 5 times. New 4/8/22-ok, we've reached total meltdown. Try to open the app, quick flash then closes. Fault reported, no fix yet. Too bad, this was my favorite news app. Now it's just a snooze💤 app.

I don't get it... If you open MS Start on the Desktop it's like a, sort of, serious looking news page, offering global, national and local news. When you open the app though, it's like the worst tabloid, advertisement pool... no local news option, lots of randomness... The layout also is terrible compared to the desktop version.

Very good base to build up on. My biggest surprise was finding the Games section. I was simply ave struck, finding out that there were not only more Microsoft Casual Games than available in the Play Store, but they took almost no time to load at all, compared to the Android app versions which load a new everytime I access HUD. That can be explained by the simplicity of the game versions itself, however, it was all I really looked for and additionally accounted for lower number of game crashes.

Clicking the notification story does not take you to the story, it opens the app to the main screen. No reason for notifications if the story referenced can not be found. The app itself is good but would like to pick and choose from the notification panel which stories I want to enter. It would be nice to be able to read the story with an interesting title in the notifications. Update. Dropping a star. Made adjustments to following, keeps putting two back into the view that I don't want.

Firstly this app is user friendly but this app lacks many features. It don't have an option to change search engine and it don't have an option to remove pinned links . I wonder is it that hard to beat chrome ? . Browser should be simple and fast . Adding more features doesn't mean u made a great app .

Update 13-APR-2022: MS has updated the app and it now takes you straight to the article referenced by the notification. They also notified me of the update via a response to this review. Thanks for taking care of that Microsoft. It gives me notifications that reference news stories that I'm interested in. Thats good. When I select that notification, I'm takem to the app, and that news story is nowhere to be found. That is infuriating. It just started doing that in Feb-2022.

The best of a bad lot it seems now that it fine as long as you only want news that Microsoft think you should see but make it hard to read on to subjects you choose. after a bit of uses I found that when you select to see fewer stores it just gives you the same article in a different in paper they need to fix there algorithm

It's crazy to say that Microsoft is excellent. I haven't really submerged into the app but the notifications are clear, and not disturbing, and the accessibility is easy to use. Great choice

Now you do the same thing Google news does where clicking an article doesn't actually take you to it, it just launches the app, which then re syncs and the link you clicked is just gone. Overall it's a terrible user experience wrapped up in an inefficient and broken UI

Too much lefty propaganda. News headlines auto scroll too fast. Trying to select links (like likeing a comment) sometimes selects links a few lines below what you are trying to select. Need to be able to exclude categories like videos and weather.

The pop-up ads are extremely annoying. Many of the 'articles' were already embedded ads, why hijack your screen with even more? "Shake the tree! Win Money!" "Bing Wallpapers - discover the world." The placement of the ad icon makes it nearly impossible to get rid of. It may be time to uninstall the app and look for a different news feed.

The 4 stars may not be entirely at fault of Microsoft. I ride the fence politically; however, there tends to be far more left leaning material. This could be a result of the segments I'm selecting. I'm not entirely sure. What I see, typically, are topics I'm interested in, but I do not believe any media outlet is reliable enough to be sole source anymore. As an app, it's great though.

Microsoft Start is a very good app that provides Up-to-date information on happening around the globe.. My only suggestion is that you can make a ping msg beep to alert the user of breaking news in real time. Other than that, I give you 4.5 stars ✨

It really doesn't work that well. The articles it shows often are dated, and when you click on one it goes to a completely different article. It could be a great app if it worked well.

I was looking for a NEWS app. This ain't it. Trying to be all things to all people will usually fail somewhere. I wanted a Schwinn you're trying to give me a Caddilac. Adv. disquised as news stories - turn off. Too much WHITE SPACE. Use all the real estate. Monday Morning...mostly all old stories from the weekend. News Happens EVERY DAY. UPDATE more often.

Worse than almost every news app i have tried. "For you" has no items i want, and includes articles from categories I removed. I selected "text only" format, but pictures still show up. NOT responsive in any way.

I like being able to shape my feed. Unfortunately, In seeing that when I hide some content, the app ignores that request, making it unreliable at best and dishonest at worst.
