NetHack

Very good port of a classic PC game. Two issues: First, the key bindings given in the comprehensive dropdown command menu are plain wrong. This means that you have to use this menu every time you want to do something like pick up objects. Second, the game is glitchy and hard to start on newer phones (Android 11+). This put some of my friends off it. Otherwise, great job.

A great nethack port, it works surprisingly well on Android! There are a few things i'd like to see to optimize the game for use without a physical keyboard like the game checking for a key or a lockpick in the open inventory and asking if you want to apply it when you encounter a locked door or chest instead of just always offering kicking/forcing since applying is a lot slower on a virtual keyboard but otherwise i've got nothing to complain about

A great port of an all-time PC classic. The inclusion of an onscreen keyboard option for controls eliminates the need to fuss about with annoying touchscreen controls and get right to the gameplay. The only major change, tapping directions on-screen to move, is a very prudent QOL choice for this type of game.

Taking down from 5 to 2 stars as it Does not work on modern android. Takes a bit getting used to, but once I mapped escape to volume up and toggle keyboard to volume down it became very smooth. It still requires more care than when playing on the pc, but for a game like this it's actually a plus.

It would be fun if the controls were not such a mess. For example, on a menu's first (compact) page, V does one thing and v does another. On the full page, both V and v do *different things*. And again, on the list of keys across the bottom, *and* on the actual (texting) keyboard, V and v do different things from what is in any menu or the bottom row. It's a matter of trial and error to figure out the commands and I don't want to make a half-page paper sheet of commands I've guessed.

excellent nethack port. good customization of controls for touch screen, with a decent default layout. haven't had any crashes unless i was save-scumming. a few controls like movement and menus are slightly different from pc, but only in a way that streamlines use on a hand-held, touch-screen device.

Great port of a classic game. However, I only had the issue of when I go to the full keyboard, I can't get back to regular controls. A button somewhere in there would bring this up to five stars.

Unplayable on modern Android versions. This app is in desperate need of updating, as you cannot even open the app using Android 10 or 11. The reason I give it 2 stars is because I've been playing NetHack with this app, on both iOS and Android, for 10 years now. I was in elementary school when my dad introduced me to Vulture's Eye, and then this was my first experience playing the game without such a massive GUI. And I'll be damned if it wasn't a great one.

Great game, and this version for Android is mostly good, has good options, and easy control access. However, I've had several games, some pretty far along, end in a trickery bug for no apparent reason.

Not user friendly. Hard to control character. Needs directional buttons and the ability to use the phone's keyboard instead of that bar you have to drag to get to the letter you need. Even zoomed in it was hard to get it to go where you wanted. 3 stars for at least making it just like the original (almost).

I'm not sure why there are multiple reviews saying this doesn't work on Android 11. Maybe there has been a recent update to fix compatibility with Android 11, but I am playing on a Pixel 4 with Android 11 and it runs fine! That aside, this is a good Android port! The controls can be a little clunky, but that's to be expected with this kind of game on a mobile device. I think the port is probably about as good as you can get on an Android. It's definitely playable, and fun!

I hardly expected nethack to be playable on a phone, let alone so enjoyable. The developer has done an amazing job with the interface and it is an absolute pleasure to use. One of the best games ever made. Definitely check it out

NetHack is a great game, though this Android build keeps crashing with Unknown error while preparing content. What unknown error? Is it impossible to write normal error message? This looks like that "I-am-user-friendly" Windows. Disappointment.

I'd love to play it by it gives me an error when I open it, error creating content. If you fix it, might have another go

May Gurr be blessed with Demigodhood for keeping this mobile release up to date. Ive played multiple roguelikes and roguelites on Android but I always come back to the one that started it all for me. Not only is this release the most up to date you can get on mobile its small and can run on almost any android phone. (Even works on my ancient ZTE from 8 years ago)

Doesn't function on my Samsung Galaxy A50 phone, asks for access to files, if granted shows an error, if not the app closes. Pretty sketchy and not functional.

A remarkably good port, sadly no longer maintained—doesn't work on recent versions of Android and not updated to the latest version of Nethack.

Dev has done a great job with the UI and the controls. Game no longer runs on Android 11, leaving my review at 5 stars however because it is deserved for devices that can run it.

Trying to boot the game up on the TCL 10 Pro and keep getting "Unknown error while preparing content." Help appreciated.

I open the game and get a window that says "unknown error while preparing content" I press okay and it closes. That's it.

Can't play. It's apparently made for Android older than 11 and hasn't been updated. Pity. A great game I can't play.

Will not work on a modern implementation of Android. Not surprising as this version is almost 3 years out of date.

Great app but unfortunately no longer playable for me. Games repeatedly end due to "trickery" i.e. save file corruption. Thanks nonetheless for the many hours of entertainment. I managed my first ascension on mobile. L

I love this game...BUT...a lot of my runs have been ended by a floor with no stairs going down. And no other stairs going down on floors above that. So my runs have been ended prematurely. This is an amazing game, just fix that problem and this game is a solid 5 stars.

A true classic. The game quality exceeds many others with fancy graphics. Playing in ASCII character mode is the best. Truly this is the dissertation killler.

Great job of making it playable on a phone! Especially the addition if the command panels, (though it's not clear how/if i can add extended commands there). Great contribution to the commons Gurrhack et. al.!!!

Adding review to state that this is working absolutely fine for me on a Huawei device running Android 10, there is possibly problems with 11 or this has been fixes since other reviews, but considering it's free I guess you'll just have to wait :)
