News Republic – Breaking news

It sounds super useful, and it is at first. But, maybe it's just because I didn't keep up with all the articles it threw at me, but eventually, all you get is news about dresses famous women wore that shocked...probably no one, but don't let that stop you. You can disable individual outlets, but the sheer number running stuff like that is exhausting. The algorithm needs work, most of what it delivers is not news at all, and even though I turned off notifications, it can't be uninstalled.

Terrible when it comes to pushing ads. Seems to be updated daily just to force notifications through. Somehow, this has the nagging habits of switching back on all the notifications/ permissions that have been deliberately turned off. The layout is far from desirable as it pushes through articles that are not desired. Older layout far better than this one. Developers are working very hard to ruin something that used to be great.

Used to be a great app that i relied on everyday. Recently it's become really slow and unresponsive; pages take ages to load, if they do at all, links are broken, or 80% of an article is adverts :( not great when you just want to pop on and get up to date with stuff in your spare 5 min break, etc. Just lost patience in tge end, not worth it if it takes too long to load for one news story, or crashes randomly. Very disappointed

After long time waiting for improvement, I decided to uninstall this app. It's just not right... first, you cannot access anymore the website of the new (long time ago you could but they change it) so now there is no way to share the news that you read here with a friend if you friend doesn't have the same app. Also it is quite annoying that they are so many news referring to a video or to a picture and you cannot see the video or the picture in the app. At least before you could click and go to the website of the newspaper who published the news and saw it there. But as I said, that's not possible anymore so reading news here doesn't make sense anymore, it's is more frustrating than any other thing.

Update July 28: The app still doesn't work. July 23: I love the app, but it seems there is something wrong with the app. I have the ad-free version, but for days it is not refreshing, and I can not get any new contents at all. I have been logged out of the app, and can not log in anymore. I get the message 'Video, Content/Network Error, try later! Try to log in again getting the same message. If the app developer can not fix it, then we should get refunded!

My experience has been horrible. Unlike other news apps like Google News, this app doesn't show any actual news, and is filled with the relationships type of articles from female magazines. My language is set to "English (International)" since there's no dedicated English variant for my country. You'd think that it'd show world news... but no, that's what it is. Garbage.

I really liked the app before but all of a sudden I'm only getting notifications from articles in Spanish. So far they've all been from UP12- Spanish so I clicked the button to not receive content from the channel but it hasn't done any good. Thought I was the only one with this problem but clearly a lot of people are experiencing the same issues. Uninstalling.

Functionally okay... Kind of... in that it does pull news stories from different sources. However often pulls old news articles presenting them along side current. Also seems to ignore news source choices - a lot of daily mail pulling through despite being told not to etc. Also user tip, in a pandemic switch of push notifications. Super depressing when every time you look at your phone you see 3 or 4 new pop up notifications telling you to be afraid. No one needs that level of anxiety.

What a mess...Biggest problem with News Republic is that it doesn't really care about detailed preferences. It just assumes that country from your Facebook/Google/Twitter account is the one you're interested in news from. Also, comparing to other similar apps, the choice of news sources is somewhat poor. And last but not least, interface of the feed is a mess: articles/news are in a completely random order and it's really hard to figure out their sources or even category at the first glance.

I've always liked News Republic, but in the past few weeks it seems to freeze when backing up from an article. It then reloads, losing the unread articles below. What's going on? I use an android running whatever the latest update is. From 3 stars down to 1 today! The app now freezes after only viewing 1 or 2 articles, then it "restarts" and I lose all unviewed articles. What is going on, News Republic? This is ridiculous. No other app does this, just yours. Only happens after commenting.

(Editted as i have written the devlopers, and they said they were working on dark Mode feature , vut a few updates, and all they appear to have added was more ads…) I struggling to control the settings in this app. I have been in and out of the apps setting page, but I am unable to locate the DARK MODE theme, even after numerous google searches. I have also found no way to eliminate the notifications showing up on the lock screen other than stopping all notifications. I like the news, and love having a choice, but unless I can figure out, or find a website that has info on this app and how to configure it better, I'll be removing it. And this would be a shame as they have a TON of news.. (not always real, but they have alot)

Way to many ads. One ad for every 7-8 articles. Ads are much more intrusive than articles. Also pop up ads that take up your whole screen. All I want is a good replacement for the old Google News app, this is not it. Would be willing to pay to remove ads, no option exists as far as I can tell. Uninstalling.

As far as I can tell, News Republic has only a small number of written articles. It seems to specialize in video content. There isn't anything wrong with an occasional video to flesh out a story here or there... But basically, I prefer to have the written word. I follow written material much easier, but with this app, I'm forced to watch videos. So, i give 3 stars. If you change up your content to written material mostly, with occasional videos, rather than primarily videos with some writing, 5.

Constantly filling up my notifications with trivial and pointless news about socialites posting stuff on instagram. The worst part is, is that I can't even uninstall the app! Few are far between are genuine news articles instead of click-bait drivel. If you haven't gotten rid of the notification, it will re-notify just to add to further annoyance.

Great app for what I'm looking for. Please add a forward arrow to allow for returning to a news article, because as of now if you exit an article, the article you were on gets lost amongst new uploads! With no "history" function (which would also be awesome), it can be frustrating. That's pretty much the only thing that's keeping me back from a 5 star review

Not well organized. Shows months old news most of the time. Can't open the links from the article. If you share any article with anyone, it just shows a few lines and asks to install the app to view full article. Not good. Appy Geek was much better. Uninstalling it.

Zero stars in my book - it's more spam than anything, and I tried to delete the app multiple times but received messages that it was not possible to do so ( but you can switch to the factory version!). Terrible app, highly recommend NOT downloading. You will never get rid of it.

This app was once great. Now it freezes while scrolling through items, and it's impossible to block unwanted news sources. Any attempt to block sources proves to be futile. It's clear by the numerous other ratings of these 2 issues. The developers clearly don't care.

This app used to be a great app. I use it almost everyday the only problem is the last 2 months the Creator's gave up on it ever since like 2 months ago it stopped loading started off with sending notifications that were in Spanish even though my settings were set to English for the last month it's to the point that now it don't even load.

I really want to like this app and give it 5 stars, because of the features I do like, such as the sharing of reader comments. BUT, the ads are intrusive and annoying (-1 star, since they pop up even when I'm not using the app), and the app crashes much too frequently (-1 star, maybe a memory management issue?).
