PTSD Coach

PTSD Coach was designed for Veterans and military Servicemembers who have, or may have, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This app provides users with education about PTSD, information about professional care, a self-assessment for PTSD, opportunities to find support, and tools that can help users manage the stresses of daily life with PTSD. Tools range from relaxation skills and positive self-talk to anger management and other common self-help strategies. Users can customize tools based on their preferences and can integrate their own contacts, photos, and music. This app can be used by people who are in treatment as well as those who are not.
PTSD Coach was created by VA’s National Center for PTSD and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth & Technology.

I love this app. When i first used it. It wasnt that helpful. But now. When i took the time to learn what it can do amd help improve. Mental stability and clarity. It's saved my life in the mor ings with inspirational quotes. I love how there are soo many tools to us at disposal. And if things get really worry some i can instantly connect with a rep to help me through my tough time. This app helps every day and on the really bad days its a mood lifter when i have no where else to turn too.

This app has been very helpful to me when I am unable to sleep, focus, or relax due to hyperarousal and triggered panic. In addition, many mental health apps do not adequately protect users' privacy and confidentiality. Not PTSD coach though! It has been reviewed independently and has excellent privacy mechanisms, so your personal issues are not available to prying investigators.

I find this app really helps me to understand my triggers. Most importantly it reminds me of all the little tricks I can use to get out of the moment of distress. These methods really work and if you do them each day, no matter how you feel, you will find yourself having less bad days. Another great feature is that you can share this with your therapist. That keeps them in tune with what you go thru each day so they can help in the areas you struggle with. So take your time in answering. 💜

This has been a great tool in conjunction with regular, professional help. I'm able to customize which calming tools I prefer, so they're easy to access in times of high stress and crisis. I've used this tool at home and when I'm out in public. It helps me keep it together so I can keep living my life. I also am able to help myself now when before I might just bottle it up and feel terrible for a long time.

Managing my symptoms, my triggers, isn't sometimes nearly effortless. Other's it's got to be priority number ONE! This is the app for that! This is the app that's helping me to save my own life and make it happy and comfortable. Once in a while, it's even pretty badass! Thanks for a wonderful addition to my journey! 💪🏻🙏🏻

Many of the stress assessment tests do not allow you to continue. There must be a bug. After you select a few boxes nothing happens, there is no way to save, or continue to the end of the test. This happens on several of them. Cant tell if this app is worth anything because it wont let you do anything because of these bugs. As a medically discharged vet with PTSD I want to use this but as its developed now not really worth anything

Wonderful resource that goes beyond specific trauma and assists with emotional regulation - the tools could be useful regardless of PTSD diagnosis. Definitely a great help for anxiety and panic. So appreciate having something like this when I get triggered and a professional mental health provider is unavailable.

Most of us are on our cellphones most of the time unfortunately. This PTSD app is user friendly and easily accessible. Even if it's 5 minutes out of my day or week- it has certainly helped. It doesn't replace a medical professional, it doesn't stop you from whatever "reaction/ action" 100%- but it gives you the right tools if you're in need of help, privately, until your next VA hospital or non-VA appt.

While this app does not take the place of in-person counseling, it is a big help when you have thoughts and memories that you'd rather forget. I'm glad to have this platform, since we are basically confined to home because of the Pandemic. I have asked my Primary Care Provider to find a support group that I can join. I have Stage lll COPD and the depression that goes with it often leads to thoughts of Vietnam that I have spent years trying to forget. This app is much appreciated.

The app has limited options, search help. It is from the VA which if I were there would prob.be more options. I was able to find more about treatment etc. but have never been able to find local service that offers it. In the south ones options are sadly very limited in funding, experience education & even empathy if on Medicare.

Great tools, could use preloaded music to add to the music list instead of trying to figure out how to get music on there for free. The app is fantastic!

Very good place to start but I feel it's lacking for people with severe PTSD/anxiety. There are some good exercises for calming and stress relief temporarily but I feel it needs several more layers for clinical coping mechanisms.

Give it a chance. At first, I gave it a hard time. I lost some sleep trying to let give it a fare chance. I thought I didn't like it very much. Suddenly, the next day, I was feeling alot more like my old self. I still need work, but that what it takes to "Untie The Knot", like the great String Cheese Incident said. There is hope. Also, try drawing connecting points that form triangles, with patience. And, always know that there is hope "Beyond the Gray Sky", words offered from 311. :)

I feel this app is saving my life. The quality of my life and my actual life. You have to actually do the activities. Read through all the choices and sections to see what is inside. You will start to think no about which ones to use when. Then plan times to use them. Use an alarm you can label if you need help getting into the habit.

I've just downloaded this app today! I haven't yet begun the recovery journey it provides, but so far, even just by looking through it, this app has provided me excptional information and insight on PTSD, and has sparked a feeling of hope inside me, and motivation to begin recovery to get better!

Even if you're skeptic just try this app, I've been dealing with my issues for over 16 years. This is by no means an end all be all, but the tools it has available really helps in the critical moments.

I believe it is helpful for veterans to help assess if their behavioral and mental issues could be symptoms of PTSD and give them an opportunity to reach out for help. For me personally the app isnt a viable long term treatment tool. Without psychological counseling and professional treatment this app is not very helpful past the assessment stage. It could be effective as an aid if used in conjunction with a CBT -1 treatment program. I can't truthfully say this app has helped my PTSD

Thank you for this free app. I have pretty bad PTSD, anxiety, and have used this app several times to help calm and get myself in a better frame of mind.

I suffer from crazy bouts of laughter, to complete silence..and I hate loud noises. I am a retired combat veteran with PTSD, and this app helps me to focus on what they suggest to me to do, instead of what I feeling at that moment, which helps me bounce back! Thank you for this app
