The app is great. For what I need, speed reading, it would be perfect if it wasn't for one thing: the books I load on the app disappear after I close it. In other words, I load a book, use the speed reading feature to read it until a certain point, and then I close the app; however, when I open the app again, my books are gone, as if I've never loaded anything on it. When this problem get corrected, I change my rate to 5 stars.
Lot of the bugs have been fixed by for some reason it keeps stopping mid article. It'll read for a little bit, maybe half the document, sometimes less, saying that something is wrong with my text engine. Nothing is wrong with it. This happens on multiple devices and it's been happening for a while now. I still think Reedy is one of the best apps, this just a minor annoyance because before the newer updates it never happened and I was able to read dozens of articles without having to break focud
A really great start. Well thought out, modern UI. Would love to see more options: Flipping pages by tapping or swiping sideways instead of up and down, option to choose page color, text color, text font, mobi format support. Also, a possible premium monetization option for you would be to use Google WaveNet API and charge an additional 25% or whatever you feel is fair. Still waiting for an easy-to-use WaveNet implementation from SOMEBODY. Whoever does this right will make money. Excellent start, and will keep my eye on this.
I like this far better than the app that has been chosen by the BBC as its future speed-reading plug-in. Seems that the recent update has improved Reedly's ability to parse web pages. It just needs more integration or a floating "Reedly this page" button to make this the thing of the future. Took me a few days to get into the habit of choosing this over a web browser... But I'm getting better and less dismissive. Very, very good tool.
Honestly, I love this app. Whenever I find a link to something I want to read later, I copy the link and save it in reedy. Every now and they a link won't work because it's behind a pay wall or the text won't appear, but it's rare, and usually I can easily access any saved text I want, with a list of my link history. You can read the text regularly, or click to have it go through the article like on a karaoke machine, an quick and practical way of reading. An app I want to support in the future
I've been using reedy for years but i had been greatly disappointed with the new update. Here's why i didn't give it a 5 star rating. I can't double tap the screen to pause and play like i used to. When using text - to - speech, the display doesn't stay on like it used to and the voice setting keeps changing whenever i collapse the app. In my opinion this was better before the update. There is also the problem with the path storage when you have multiple folders, you need to reboot for new path.
Cutting to the point. The voices have a nice veriety, clariety in each word that is spoken and the pause at the end of each period makes me forget that its text-to-speech to the point it sounds like someone is reading to me. Only request I have is that you can adjust the length of the pause after each period like you can with the reading speed. 10/10 and will donate to show my support! Wife is happy to have the honey-do list being tended too more often and I can enjoy my books while at work too!
Used in conjuction with a loaded better custom voice this is a very good reader. Especially given the fact its free. The only problems I've had with it is the slightly confusing interface. I couldnt figure out how to input a link again after I did it once. Also some wiki features are broken in this app. Its best to use this with text files rather then its default web browser.
The text to speech feature is great when it works! I can flexibly increase the speed as needed, add any text-to-speech engine I have installed and much more. I also really like the speed reading feature and have just started using it when the text-to-speech feature stops working (which is unfortunately pretty common hence the 3 stars)
Needs paragraph indicators. A pilcrow or highlighting the first sentence and/or last sentence of a paragraph. Book chapters are one large paragraph of many sentences. You can process the words as they flash across the screen and form ideas when the sentences close but the theme of a story is lacking. And thus in a sense context. The result is run-on ideas. It seems a useful tool for improving reading of normal books. Set point at 80% or so and use the ticker so you can see the sentence collapse.
The older version of this app was better. Now, it stops reading after two sentences or less and I can't even double tap to unpause, the readers voice I used was removed; now it sounds more robotic. When I open a new document, it beggins reading several paragraphs down from the first. Currently, I'm trying to reinstall an older version of this app because I honestly loved it but so fare, I'm having no luck.
Love the concept of this app but it overheats my phone! I've also had some issues with the voices lately, they sound off no matter what i change in the settings and the voices switch and it just completely stops every few sentences. It also overheats my phone like no other app has ever done. I use a lot pretty heavy duty design apps and games, but this app somehow drives my phone to overheat and glitch. It's very strange. If these issues were fixed I'd use this app over all other reading apps :)
The speed reading works. There are very few ads and they are never on the reading page. The TTS works but it would be nice if it kept the words it reads in the middle of the page instead of the top. Great app does what it says very well. Recent update slightly slowed the loading down but not too noticable.
I am using this app for quite a while it was great. But in the latest update the sentence keeps breaking in between. It just skips to next sentence without finishing the previous sentence and double tapping on sentence to pause or play feature was great but now that feature is removed. Previous version was great. I hope the issues are fixed soon..
Reading randomly stops in the middle and it doesn't take long to stop working, before it was just when I was on another app or every 15-20 mins but now it's every min and simply pressing play won't fix it anymore. Also if I go into an book and go out of a book by pressing back, the list of books is scrolled down. Every semi big update seems to comes with a ton of untested bugs. You guys need people who test the app before release. Still overheats phone and uses crazy amounts of power.
I totally changed my mind about this app. It's really nice. If you tap on the text, it starts the speed reader. You can bookmark to come back to it later. You can read everything but PDFs (they say they're going to get that rolled out eventually so I subscribed to help give them some money to do it.) Reading webpages using this app is REALLY nice. Developer is very nice and extremely patient with people as they are learning the ropes. Good app!
great app, suggestion for improvement: when pasting in text, i think you should change where the paste button/inputs appear. At the moment when i paste text, each time the paste button appears on the top left corner area of the phone which is hard to reach and not a great place for primary actions. can you bring in down to the bottom of the page or wherever the user press-held the screen to open the paste menu.
Reedy gives you only a symplified view of a web page plus some less important features such as an average TTS & speed reading (no, thanks!) That's all. However, the most frustrating thing is that it cannot save the articles. Yes, there's a folder inside but nothing is found there. I find this very disappointing. Not recommended.
So happy to see development restart after such a long period. What sets this apart from similar apps in this category is this way this formats the page including all relevant images, then there's the additional speed reader features, it's just a really well thought out, well designed app. The Pro upgrade is reasonable too. Many thanks.
Its a very good app i use it every day for a year i thing. Amyway i would recommend. But pz fix the voices that reset every time you reload a page, and the issue of not opening the new page(it shows that you opened a new page but it still registers the position of the text from the previous page and it wasnt doing that before) plz fix
I think I used this app for the first time in 2015. I recently installed it again and it's really exciting to see how it evolved. I never heard about other book readrts with similar single-word reading feature, so I suppose this app is unique. It's definitely deserves higher ratings than current 3.9. I have some issues with text-to-speech feature, but everything else seems to be working fine. Highly recommend the app. Thanks to developers!
Fix the app now the only better think that it can offer is to be able to open more sites and old ones that have been updated. There is no longer a douple tap to play, you have moved the 'extract web content' option from the open link tab and it gets stuck alot and you have to move to the next row of text to continue to play. Version 3.1.1 is the best version but due to sites updating it can not open them anymore and it's kinda sad to be hearing a novel and next page says ' file not found'.
