SDR Touch - Live offline radio

Turn any mobile phone or tablet into an affordable and portable software defined radio scanner with spectrum analyser. Listen and record live on air FM stereo radio stations with RDS, weather reports, emergency stations, taxi traffic, airplane communications, audio of analogue TV broadcasts, HAM radio amateurs, digital broadcasts and many more! Depending on the hardware used, its radio frequency coverage could span between 50 MHz and 2.2 GHz. It currently demodulates broadcast FM, AM, narrowband FM, upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB) signals.
The built-in RDS monitor will allow exploring the hidden digital data feed that most commercial FM radio stations broadcast. This includes the station's program type (PTY), country of broadcast (ECC), date and time (CT), unique program identifier (PI), list of alternative frequencies (AF) and advanced statistics about the digital RDS carrier signal.

SDR Touch receives radio by using a USB dongle. It runs offline and does not require a data plan or internet connection! Take SDR Touch anywhere and find out what the radio waves are hiding!

In order to run SDR Touch, you will need:

- USB digital TV (DVB-T) dongle with the RTL2832U chip. You may already have one of them laying around. They cost less than $10
- USB OTG (On-The-Go) cable
- if you've ever connected a USB thumb drive to your Android device, you already have it. They are extremely cheap

Plug the USB dongle in the charging USB socket of your Android device via the OTG cable and run SDR Touch! It is that simple! Now you can listen to live radio on Android devices that don't have a built-in FM support, without requiring a data plan!

This application is currently experimental and may crash. Please, report any bugs to the email provided in the Help.

Using the RTL2832U driver you could use one of the following compatible USB DVB-T tuners:

Amazing! Have had a lot of fun discovering interference with this. Heads up to some users; test your SDR on different devices. My first device, Xperia XZP suffered a strange effect and lots of noise. Ended up result of a noisy USB on the phone. On two other, older, devices, these artifacts don't exist. Please take this into mind if you don't have great mileage. Have to say, the waterfall is better than desktop software and was definitely worth the purchase to keep it running.

I had this application installed on my LG Android tablet for years, but I never fully learned it. In the beginning, I only used it with my Shark SDR-RTL as an FM radio, just for fun. After I rekindled my SW listening hobby, I decided to give it a try. I even bought the SpyVerter up converter. However, other things got in the way and I did not even test it. Now that I have a bit more of free time, I decided to explore SDR again.I tried several Windows SDR applications, each with its own pros and cons. After finding the best working settings for my SDR-RTL+SpyVerter setup, I decided to try again with SDR Touch. Boy! It was not only simpler than I though it would be. I tried it with the up converter, which was a breeze to setup and it worked very well. Looking around the configuration, I found the way to do direct sampling, which means that I do not need the up converter (less drain to the battery). Unfortunately, the upconverter does add a bit of gain as well as some needed filtering to my SDR-RTL dongle. I am still discovering this app, but I am very happy with it, so far.

I would give this app a 5 star rating but it has a serious flaw on a Pixel XL phone. It works just fine when the phone screen and the app is in focus. However when the phone screen is turned off and the phone locked the audio becomes very choppy and it eventually breaks altogether. The app does not seem to work well in the background. Unlike for example music playing apps which continue to work even when backgrounded. Please fix this asap, and I'll revise this to a 5 start rating. A $10 app should not have this sort of issues, and yes I am a paying customer,

Garbage user interface. Sometimes touching and dragging will more your frequency. Sometimes it will change your bandwidth. There is no way to know which action will be performed. Also, the frequency display is garbage too. It shows that I am somewhere around 10,000 MHz. Sorry, but my dongle can't actually receive into the 10 GHz band, no matter what the software says. It has the basic functionality there, but it needs a LOT of polishing of the user interface...

It freaking works, every time with any of my SDR dongles on any of my droids, regardless of size make or version. Not a huge learning curve, they haven't pulled my key or tried to charge me again for it or require a limit on the number of devices I've put it on. For me it's a good place to start prior to using one that runs on a PC. Thanks for letting it be enjoyable !

Hoped it would be better. Very basic app. My biggest complaint is there is no good way to fine tune a signal, yes there is the zoom funtion but if I zoom in too close and try to drag the tuning bar the whole screen moves. This makes tuning a ssb signal difficult. I have watched the instructional videos on how to work the app but for $9 for the pro key , a brief set of instuctions on the apps home page would be expected.

Great app, doesn't work well on the latest Android - disconnects at random. Worked flawlessly on my friend's older tablet. Please fix it! I love this app generally. EDIT: The problem may be the SDRPlay driver. Try this app, if it works, it's great! Update: got a response from the developer about turning off battery saving features. I'll try that. Thanks!

The app installed and operated on my Kindle HD10 without issue. License key installed without issue. It just works. I gave it 4 stars because there is room for improvement in the user interface; fine control of frequency and bandwidth can be difficult using the touchscreen, although easily adjusted precisely by direct entry of the values. Solid function and feature set for the price of the license key.

Worked for 2 days, even to 1% battery power. Now it crashes, says my phone hasn't enough power, even at 100%. Cost $10 bucks, and after 48 hours, Google won't refund. Google Play said was compatible with my phone, and info prior to purchase did not say anything about problems that Signalware Ltd stated as having with cellphones lacking power to run their Software Defined radio. $10 bucks wasted! First-time Google Play purchase. Last-time too!

It works, but dev wants to get paid for unpolished product. I think if the app had more work on the UI and user friendly interaction (like clicking in the MHz bar takes you to jump to Freq, for example) it would definitely be worth the money to get a working software even though you can use SDR# for free on a Windows based device, it has plugins and etc

Works as its supposed to. Menu could be improved. Sometimes it makes it hard to navigate. The same with the waterfall. Hard to adjust either freq or bandwidth. Maybe having a dedicated slider on the screen for bandwidth and frequency. Im sure you can over design the app. That being said. Best sdr software for mobile devices out there! Works flawless. Have only tested it on FM broadcast and VHF armature radio bands.

Full featured, powerful app! I was surprised that this app actually had the Q Branch Direct Sampling setting to tune in HF frequencies using the RTL-SDR V3 dongle. I thought I would probably have to use Windows software for this. It works great with this dongle and my phone. Can't wait to try on the Samsung Galaxy Tab next.

Update: I bought this app but it didn't work correctly on my (supported) phone (frequency scrolling issue). I contacted the developer and he FIXED THE ISSUE!!! Amazing! The app now works perfectly on my phone and I am sure it will for other Huawei's as well. Thank you very much Martin! This is now simply the best SDR app on the market. It is unmatched in features and ease of use. Simply the best.

Edited review as app has been updated and now works great with Huawei devices. The best SDR software for Android. Great for scanning around the bands while out and about or finding activity on a wide range of frequencies without having to slowly scan through frequencies with a radio or scanner. Definitely worth purchasing the key app to unlock it's full potential 🙂

Good application but there is limitation of basic functionality of any SDR software: spectrum display is not available without buying "pro key". I have already purchased that "pro key" and tested full version of this application. Squelch level setting is much convenient than in other similar apps but I would like to enter desired values manually. And thank you very much for direct sampling mode!

My phone will not recognize the dongle, even with the driver installed, usb debugging, etc. on LGV20, tried different OTG cables as well. Also having OTG FTP Transfer issues. Device will not hold FTP protocol, stays in charging mode when dongle is attached. Not sure if this is hardware or software related issue, Proud fan of SDR# on windows so I will continue my search for resolution.

It's very limited to basic RX, there are very few GUI elements that make operating any easier or more comfortable. Band bank buttons come to mind. Switch HAM or Shortwave or Broadcast bands would be a start, in lieu of having to program all frequencies manually. I am forced to swipe all day to clear the end of the FM broadcast band, ugh... For 10 USD, it's simply not worth it to me. Put in a friendly GUI and maybe it's worth more. It is the best SDR app for Android unfortunately. I'll pass...

Mic. S. Dec 27, 2018

I pinch to zoom in and I cannot slide the frequency around to make use of the better zoom. I REFUNDED simply because of this one thing. Its no good if I cannot tune it properly by zooming and then sliding. All it does is move the zoomed view and does not alter the frequency. No good to me. If it gets updated you'll get my money...

Chr. H. May 11, 2021

This is a demo of a pro version. I know it takes time and effort to make software, but having it clearly stated on the play store listing is a must. Actual app was decently designed, with a waterfall plot and good signal readings, but the countdown to popup Asking to buy pro docked some points.

Gru. Apr 3, 2022

Beware, You are on your own for support ! Way too overpriced for what it is, Average GUI at best, Very poor 1 MHz limit, Does not live up to the (Sponsored?) reviews hype... Certainly no recent updates or refresh so it's basically lots of money for the same old rope... Shame!

My Galaxy S8+ has it working great. I have yet to try it on my tablet. But on the phone, it works great. Obviously the better the antenna, the more you hear and it loves my scanner antenna. Now to experiment with frequencies and what I can hear and to find a good portable antenna for it. Great app!

Olg. Z. Mar 26, 2022

LOL, not even quick frequency entry (took me few mins to scroll to PMR range), and only one, single minute of spectrum view in trial? HOW exactly do you think someone can evaluate this alpha RC for a software? Absolute garbage, uninstalling, RF Analyser offers so much more for free. (unless you simply disable all the other functionality in trial, in that case joke's on you not many will decide to blindly pay for the unlock key based on the garbage experience).

Update: Developer has fixed the problem with Huawei phones not being able to slide through frequencies. All is working now and this is, so far, the best SDR app out there! Instantly repurchased the license key when I saw developer had fixed the above bug. (Original review below): Unfortunately I was not able to change frequency on my Huawei p20. Sliding from side to side did absolutely nothing.

Ran. E. Aug 20, 2019

Attempted to try it out but the demo period is so short it ends before you can explore all its features and really try it out. What good does including a "demo mode" if you aren't given enough time enough time to see if you like it? Will have to just try someone else's interface :>/

Neat to see SDR on Android, but this is extremely unpolished and the developer wants to get paid for an unfinished, highly unrefined product. The capability is there; the execution remains to be seen. Poor G/UI, exceptionally poor navigation and instability leave more to be desired from this app. Going to continue using SDR# with my SP7.
