No longer usable. I've had an account for years for desktop/laptop backup & sync, and it works beautifully. The app was always handy to retrieve a file on the phone when PCs not available. I appreciate it was never intended as a phone backup, but at least it worked to download. Now it's useless, just sits there saying "loading". If the server API has changed then please either update the app, or remove it from the store. As is it's an embarrassment.
Wow. This app is HORRIBLE. I get from the description it does not upload your mobile files, not even pictures. That alone makes no sense to even use it. However, it does nothing 99% of the time. Can't access files with out trying 10 times, connection times out, when you do get files to show, half are missing. You can't view your files, you have to download them. If you want to see a few photos, you download the entire folder unless you upload each image one by one, not placed in a folder.
This app is virtually unusable. Often it doesn't let you log in. When it does, you touch a folder and it doesn't show the contents. You have to hit back and try again 3 or 4 times until it loads the contents. Developers, I love the Spideroak service, but what is up with your Android app? Dropbox and Google Drive apps are so much better.
The SpiderOak One app for Android is very disappointing. I signed up with them because of their excellent backup service on Linux and Windows, and I was hoping to use the SpiderOak Hive, as their cross platform synchronization feature is called, to synchronize my KeePass database between those platforms and my Android devices. I've been using Dropbox. Alas, SpiderOak's Android support is read-only and KeePass cannot find it. I will fully switch to Dropbox if it doesn't improve.
Been using Spideroak for years on my desktop and love it. The mobile experience has been horrible. Before I would have to restart the app may times and wipe the app cache just to see the file list. Then I would have to do the same restarts and cache wipes many times more for it to download a file to my phone. After having to move to another phone the app won't even sign in. Very disappointed in the Spideroak team.
Outstanding service, almost useless Android app. Not sure why you'd create such an appalling app for such a great product. Constantly getting either a blank page, suggesting an empty directory or 'Network timeout. Status: 503' almost instantly. Don't know how it can time out after a second! Please fix this app, after all this time it really needs your attention. Thanks.
horrible experience. Sometimes we'll take four or five or even six tries to get a subdirectory to load. Doesn't matter whether it's on cellular or Wi-Fi or if the directory has a lot of files or just a few. Just a horrible app. Expect better from spideroak
Really helpful how it's labelled 'One' in the app drawer, instead of SpiderOak. That's just the icing on the cake. If I didn't have so much data stored SpiderOak, I'd move to Tresorit. Years of no improvements to either their desktop or mobile apps - they are a company that's going nowhere and have been for many years now.
Utterly useless AND insecure. The official Spideroak app, whose sole reason for existing is to access your no-knowledge client-side-encrypted Spideroak account, doesn't do no-knowledge encryption! It's like Spideroak is trolling us all, except apparently we're supposed to seriously accept this dismal joke as being their best effort at Android support. And if you do opt to sacrifice the zero-knowledge security by letting this app transmit your "private key" credentials to the server, you still can't use it to upload anything from your phone in any way. That's right, no Hive Folder syncing, no backup, no nothing. You can pull files from your Spideroak account to your phone, but it's all read-only. This is totally unacceptable. Thanks to this glaringly worthless app, I am running a whole self-hosted sync service just for my phone, even though I pay for a Spideroak account which is supposed to securely and seamlessly sync my stuff across my devices. This app is not just a failure, it's an insult. The only releases it's had in several years are as follows: a blue paint job on the UI, and replacing the expired SSL certs. That's it. I'm open to switching services, this app is so bad.
Targets outdated API (25) vs current (29). Minimum allowed for an updated app is 26, soon to be 28 in a few weeks. App is slow and doesn't have as intuitive a UI or integrate as well compared to competitors.
A good basic level of access to your data on a phone, but not like the hive folder functionality, unfortunately. Solid, though, never crashes.
So, so slow. Poor performance, low function. Can't backup mobile devices. I'm sure the poor response time is to do with a lack of backend server capacity and performance.
Get a network timeout error (status 500) every time I try and access anything. Logs in okay though, and has access passcode option for security. If I could access my files at all I'd totally use this app.
Android app doesn't work anymore. Can't get past sign in. Reloaded app, automatically signed in now, waiting, but nothing loads. Account works fine on computer.
Buggy UI, some folders you have to go in and out of twice to see the content. Progress bar to download doesn't work either.
Been terrible over the last few years and now it's completely unusable. Either they are incompetent or are in the process of releasing a completely revised app. I hope it's the latter.
*A CLOUD BACKUP APP THAT CAN'T ACCESS YOUR DATA* App appears to be abandoned. (Last update: Feb 2018) Here's the step-by-step user experience: 1. Launch app 2. Enter passcode 3. Press hamburger menu icon to list your devices 4. Click device or your Hive 5. Wait for "loading" to finish 6. "Error Network Timeout (Status 500)" To be fair, Share Rooms list their contents. So that is currently functional.
I cannot freaking believe this app still doesn't have backup capabilities! It's been YEARS!! How is this not a priority??? This service has, clearly, been abandoned. Is SpiderOak still in business? I'm finally giving up on them!
Painfully nonfunctional. Clearly, SpiderOak has abandoned this app entirely (hasn't been updated in over a year), meaning you're likely to end up with an even less secure cloud storage service than those nasty giant Corps we came to SO to avoid in the first place
needs updates, have to back out twice to a folder then go back in just to read contents. paying far too much for backup that isnt easy to get to on mobile.
Cant download a single 200kb file to device or sd card. No errors it just doesnt save and the app has permissions to read/write to storage. Interface is clunky.
Takes forever to login, probably because it hasn't been updated with their new SSL certificate, as the last update was two years ago.
Needs serious update to compare to using onedrive, dropbox, box, which are all free.
I'm happy with SpiderOak desktop, but this app is completely unusable. Directories simply don't display.
Does not make creating an account easy at all. Very difficult and too many hoops to jump through
I am stuck on Authenticating and can't connect using this app. PC app works great.
Used to work fine. But cant sync any files recently.
SpiderOak ONE is great on Windows and Linux, but utterly pointless on mobile.
SpiderOak ONE for the desktop (or laptop) is a fantastic app. For Android, not. The app lets you view and download your backups, but it takes a long… long… long time to load. When drilling down into subdirectories, you have to repeatedly go into the folder, wait a bit, come out, go in again, until eventually the app shows its contents. It's frustrating, to be used only when you must have a file and can't wait until you get to a desktop.
