The long-runming #1 emulator app for performing tasks within Android's integrated Linux command line shell: simplistic in design; an intuitive graphical interface; a super-compact app package and, last but certainly not least, an ad-free experience. Five stars in all aspects.
Still a MUST after so many years and so much competition having enter the field. Unbeatable in its ergonomical design and tiny size. I flash it on every Android/ATV device I use, in /system/app/Terminal. With libraries extracted in same dir (../lib/arm).
It doesn't work after rebooting after changing the system language. It opens, but console window is unresponsive and it crashes when clicking new window. Clearing data didn't work, had to reinstall.
This app was perfectly fine 7 years ago, but I'm honestly shocked anyone still uses it... ***Without a doubt, and in 100% of cases, I guarantee you want Termux instead.*** The Play Store version is great, and the F-Droid version is that much better still (install important Linux commands, other add-ons -- see their wiki). In any case, Termux is far, FAR more functional than this ever was, honestly superior in every way. I'm sorry to say it, but today this app really only belongs in a museum.
Was great for earlier versions of Android. Recently, I had to update phones to Android 10 and found that i couldn't access functionality that was previously usable. As someone else stated, ctrl-c and all of the other hot keys do not work. Can we expect an update to allow these?
Tried to copy something by long pressing. Couldn't see any option due to dark gray font over black background. Probably needed to change some default app settings. But come on!! Who's gonna do that!? There are loads of other terminal emulator out there!
Back when I was still working, this app was a lifesaver on the weekend if I needed to remote into a min windows device/server to fix some issue. I would rather use a PC but if the phone is all you have available this app is a slick solution. Saves a drive to the office on a Sunday.
Volume key shortcuts do not work, so there's no way to interrupt processes, move the cursor, re-use previous commands, and so on. Unless you're running one-off commands that you know will complete (i.e., not ping), the experience is frustrating. Uninstalling in favor of Termux.
It used to work well with older versions of Android. Now in 2020, it can't handle inputting commands without highlighting and overwriting the previous command typed in. Last updated in 2015, I'm not holding much hope it'll get fixed anytime soon.
I used to love this app, but it hasn't been updated for long time. Especially it is difficult to use special keys. Nowadays, I prefer JuiceSSH, yes it has option to connect to local device! Much much nicer to work with.
Excellemt tool for working "under the hood" For example, if the tablet/phone is advertised as a 4 core or 8 core processor, typing. a simple "cat /proc/cpuinfo" (without quotes) will tell you.exactly how many cores :it has. Works terrific on a 10" tablet, but should be usable evem on sn ordinary phone.
Every coding app in every store is full of back doors, remotes controls and server tunnels. It ridiculus. What happened to the security of downloading from playstore? I laid my phone down for 15 minutes.. this app disappeared along with all of my developer tools. My passwords were change, my personally built repositories are missing from four email accounts I use as cloud storage. 2 phones wiped clean of anything that had value. These crooks running around in here don't want to do the work.
It worked great for many years. Changing phone (Android 8 vs Android 6, Xiaomi Vs Galaxy S4) the Volume-UP Volume-DN keys no longer work in order to enter control and function keys. Hope in a new release.
Actual CLI for the OS. That means it's a CLI for your ANDROID DEVICE'S OS. It is NOT a mininstall running in a locally mounted filesystem. In lay terms, it's not a "linux terninal" because there's no such thing. A terminal emulator is a tty emulator running in a GUI on ANY *NIX OS... So, basically this is useless on a non-rooted device, but very useful on a rooted one. So, for a rooted phone, it's a great choice BECAUSE it's a system terminal emulator.
Downloaded this solely for curl... What kind of terminal doesn't have curl? Surely you can cd around directories in here but it really doesn't do much else. It's more a gimmick for those " I program HTML" cretins, it's not really useful at all. Waste of storage space. Oh, and it always runs in the background unless you force kill it, yeah I'm good. Uninstalled within 2 minutes.
it is excellent.. very configurable .. but the copy/paste doesn't work properly... that's the only reason I uninstall it .. at least in my android 4.1.2 .. you can not paste commands that you copy from a webpage or from a TXT file.. It is the only reason why I stop using it.
this isn't a linux emulator, this is a genuine terminal that actually runs on your phone. the reason you don't have a lot of commands is because you don't have it with your phone, you can get busybox or other things separately. this is lightweight, does exactly what it needs to, and no more. exactly what I need to manage my rooted phone
A great terminal emulator for Android. I've been using it for several years. Very efficient and light on memory. Only issue I'm facing is that I can't make control commands working
It's a basic linux terminal app. Besides of its preference and other customization its really good. But it'll be much better if it has full linux commands like package installation & other command stuffs. Also its difficult to use special key like CTRL & other functions.
I have been with Terminal Emulator for many years. It was solid for what it did. Alas, this product's time had ended for me. Not being able to CTRL+C out of a ping has driven me into the arms of another. I will look back with fond memories. Rest in peace, my sweet. *Throws dirt on coffin*
can't type, every time i send space it erases the text, no settings to fix that available, useless. At least put in your f description what versions and what devices are compatible, Samsung A10, J6 and Zenfone 4 I get the same problem.
Quite a Linux emulator. To leave the Linux instance type exit in the Linux command line. If you like terminal emulator you may want to try Termix. While it is a deeper Linux experience it only accesses its own environment. Thus you will want to keep both apps as Terminal Emulator actually accesses user internal storage. On multiuser devices The owner has an extra group membership which enables them to do admin things and write to removable storage.
There is a bug, when you first use it then close the app and restart your device, it wont let me type again when i open the app, so it needs a little bit of time by doing clearing the data and force stopping it. Its so annoying
Built for Android 3. Volume key shortcuts don't work, so you can't input control or any key not on the built-in keyboard. Frustrating; uninstalling.
App does what it's supposed to, but unfortunately it's not for connecting to external devices with a USB serial cable connected through a USB adaptor/OTG cable.
I can't access the control keys. I suspect this is because I have Samsung's Sound Assistant installed. It changes the volume step sizes...
Blocks Gboard's suggestion/controls bar. Missing option for ignoring the back button. "Word mode" restores the Gboard bar but changes input text color to black on black.
Its 2020 now, but simple operation as Select text does not work (doesn't do anything and nothing can be selected) Xiaomi Mi 9T, Huawei P9 and Mate 9, all with stock ROMs. Should I use special keyboard or what (using Google Keyboard)?! Really don't know, how it can work in all other apps but not here. No Share options either (only Send by mail). App stuck in the past times
Lots of issues as technology advances. With more modern ssh algorithms the keys don't work with this app cause it doesn't use the standard openssh interpretation. Now it doesn't always process text when doing things like sudo
Very handy for checking my network connection (the wifi on my tablet isn't that reliable), so getting access to the PING command is VERY handy. Unfortunately, if I'm using GBoard (the only soft keyboard I use), I can't bring up my last commands to reuse. This is a MAJOR failing of this program, as not only do the "Special Keys" not work, I have to use a separate keyboard, or figure out what other soft keyboard might actually provide directional arrows. And if your suggestion is to actually find another soft keyboard, shame on you for thinking that I should find an alternative program to fix a failing in this one.
