Uodate 5/23/2022. I've heard an update is coming. When? This is maddening!Horrible. Log in does not work. After I type in log in credentials I get the log in screen again. Really sick of it. I see others are having the same struggles. I've Uninstaller and reinstalled the app. The app sys I'm logged in. When I try to open an article I'm asked to sign in, which I do. Then the sign in screen appears again, and round and round it goes.

Have been a happy WSJ subscriber for many years, but for the past several weeks the app has been practically unusable due to loading issues. It's understandable that things might break now and again, but the app has been non-functional for weeks. Very bad look. Update 5/19: Just got an update that seems to have fixed the performance issues.

I click an article and it just spins!!! I have to uninstall/reinstall in order to get it working. . As of 5-4-22 the app stills has the same issues? Its has to be close to a week by now. Never experienced this before? 5-12 still not working. It's unbelievable I have never experienced this anywhere. I may have to go back to the paper better yet send out a version, so we can read on our kindle? It's more enjoyable than the LED screen anyway.

I have enjoyed reading the WSJ on my phone for the last 2 years, but over the last several weeks, the app has stopped working. When I try to read an article, the app hangs up and the article never loads. Tried to uninstall and the reinstall, but I still have the same problem. Based upon other reviews, this appears to be a common problem. I find it unbelievable that WSJ has allowed this to go on for so long.

Update review: Recently the WSJ Digital Edition Android App ($40-ish @mo) has become VERY unstable, and is unable to display most stories without a reboot of the device. At story load, it just spins, and won't load. It must have major memory use and release issues. I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. WSJ simply doesn't seem to care about it's customers, otherwise they would have fixed this with a viable update/fix weeks ago. LONG time subscriber that's had enough.

The presentation of the news is nice. The app has a clean and simple UI. Unfortunately, it frequently doesn't refresh news stories unless I force close the app and then reopen. I've had that problem across multiple Android devices. Additionally, the other pain is that as I make my way through stories on the home page, it gets to a point where I hit the back button to get out of an article and the app puts me all the way back at the top of the home page. So I've got to scroll back down again.

Longtime WSJ reader and app user. Something has gone wrong with the app recently. It works fine when open and in use, but when switching between apps it fails - attempt to open an article and just get the white loading screen. I have to close app completely and relaunch to load a new story, it's very annoying for a consistent phone muktitasker like me to constantly have to relaunch the app.

Something goofed up this app at least within the last 30 days. Articles close after you read a few sentences, or they never load at all. Sometimes this seems to happen during a news update. But sometimes, it just happens. I dk if its the latest Android update, or a WSJ update. Know that when I can't read on the WSJ app, I sigh and switch to the Washington Post app, which always seems to work.

Why the huge delay in loading articles? It didn't used to be like this just two months ago. I switch to Washington Post app or NYT app and their articles load up instantly. The access on my computer (PC) to the WSJ content also has no issue. But this app is ridiculously slow. Wish you guys tested your upgrades before sending them out to us. It is tarnishing the WSJ brand

Articles won't load. Each time I use the app, about halfway through reading the paper, I am unable to get the next article that I'd like to read to load. A progress wheel just spins and spins and the screen is locked up. I have to restart my Android tablet in order to get articles to load. Very annoying.

The articles are great, but the app keeps signing me out and you have to put in your password all the time. This would not be much of an issue, except it happens when the app notifications are on and they lead you to click on the link and then somehow you are not logged in so you have to enter your password again. Annoying! If you're going to notify me of an article, then make sure you have my credentials or don't notify me

Great news outlet. Much better at actually reporting news than the Financial Times. My one complaint is that the app still doesn't load all articles in the app. It's buggy and loads many in webviews, which don't honor things like night mode settings. After using the app for months, the buggy WebView situation is getting tiresome. Every few articles I have to force stop the app because the internal WebView crashes and stops loading articles. I'm using a Pixel phone: there's no excuse for this.

Sco. S. May 22, 2022

The app itself is fine but the push notifications are annoying. I have everything turned off except for breaking news and I get alerts like "in a cow pasture in the middle of nowhere stands the Stonehenge of America." Ugh! That's not breaking news. So I'm probably going to turn off the breaking news notifications which will make this app a lot less useful.

I appreciate that the non-editorial content is neutral. Sometimes I have to roll my eyes at the editorials partisanship, but at least it stays where it belongs. *Edit* Lately stories haven't been loading unless I completely restart the app. Dropping to 1 star until it's fixed. *Edit2* as of 5/5/2022, I'm still having the same problem. I tried reinstalling the app and rebooting my phone.

Ste. R. Apr 11, 2022

I like the content. Still the best newspaper. However the app is a problem. It now keeps requiring me to login every time. This is annoying because I use a strong password and I don't remember and can't login unless I look it up at home. Smartphones are meant to be mobile. Also the app loses its place and I have to keep scrolling from the first article.

Fair and balanced coverage of news, business and events, written in clear and precise language. Only paper I trust. However, I am downgrading this to 3 stars from 5 stars due to fact that Android version of app does not provide listening capability for news and opinions section as is provided in Apple / iOs version which I find to be immensely useful. Their support was not aware of any plan to introduce in Android soon. 😣

Great content and layout! VERY SLOW to NO opening of articles! I have a paid subscription and many times I get extremely slow opening of articles. Other times they don't open and I watch the wheel spin. This happens on a 550 Mbs WI-FI. 😔

Updating my rating. Even after uninstall/reinstall the app is super buggy, I have to frequently force stop the app and delete the cache to get it to work. Seriously, this is long past the point where you need to roll back any changes made in the past month and try again, the app is severely broken

Nan. C. May 10, 2022

Please fix this login issue. The app no longer lets me sign into my account. It has been this way for at least 6 months. The only way I can read articles the app notifies me of is to click on a notification - which opens the app - and use the Share feature to open the article in a mobile browser, which fortunately does still permit logins to my account.

Cli. B. May 17, 2022

Coverage is great. App was terrible and has improved. Still asks for password way too often. This is still the worst app I have on my tablet. I have despaired and try to read print edition on my tablet. One year later and not much has changed. Canceling my order.

I've read the WSJ paper for years, having several favorite parts of the paper. Just recently subscribed to the digital version and liking the format. Super easy to read and the pictures are great. Tabs across the top make for easy navigation, along with the email alerts on the news that's important to you. As I remember the previous wine columnists. The new one is quite good! What I do miss in the app or haven't found it yet is the stippling. Regardless, great paper.

Con. P. Mar 14, 2022

It's okay. I like the paper. My problems with the app are as follows. First, no tabbed browsing. I like being able to go through and open tabs for what I'm going to read, then go back when I have time and read them all. Second, The editorials are definitely far right, which I would expect from Murdoch, but I wish the editorial board would try to be more diverse. Third, ads. Why are there ads in a paid only app? Also, the number of amti-vax ads is alarming.

Jam. C. Mar 7, 2022

The app and layout are good. Easy to read and navigate. Sometimes when I click on a push notification, I can't read the article. Even though I am in the app, I am being forced to log in. I need to close the app, go back in and find the article in the notifications section. It's an inconvenience, but it's a really annoying inconvenience.
