The app itself is OK, it's the constant notification that you can't swipe away. That's rather annoying... I don't need a constant notification of the weather condition when I got 20 widgets on my home screen that already tells me the current conditions. You're not that important Weather Channel..! And because the app is so un-intuitive I just end up blocking all their notifications because I don't know how to adjust that particular setting.
The application keeps crashing and when it's not crashing it's constantly buffering. I've tried restarting my phone and uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but it works intermittently. Whenever I restart my phone the app buffers and I use to be able to go through the playstore and open the app and it would be fine. Now, with the continuous updates it made it worse. When it works it's great, but then you have to put up with all the bugs that continues to plague it what's the use in using it.
Way to many ads! And most ads are longer than the actual clip. Some ads don't have a close button which makes you have to close out the app entirely because there's no back button. I thought getting the app would be more convenient, but I'll probably go back to checking the weather right on the web. The easier and less hassle way.
Every few months another change comes along that makes the app worse and worse, every. Single. Time. I haven't seen a single change in the last 4 years that made me say, "wow, that is so much better than it was before." Add all of that to what seems to be a fairly constant degradation in precipitation reliability over the past several years and what we're left with is an app barely deserving of 2 stars. I typically got better from newspaper forecasts in the 90s. Isn't weather tech improving?
Lost a star. Since 4/1/22 it struggles to open, it can't find the server! I'm connected to WiFi and have 4 bars but it just spins, saying connecting to server or asking me if I'm online. It's not my service because all other apps open. I did notice the issue of the ads interfering with the weather content is fixed, thank you. The ads are annoying but you still have work to do to convince me that this worth paying for. Deliver a reliable product and I'll pay to eliminate all the ads.
Forecast? Ads with a chance of Ads You've never seen so many ads in one app. Takes 5 minutes to load anything and another 10 to get through the ads to see anything about the weather. When you do get to the weather, it's good info, and the widget options are great. But it's really not useable overall.
I hate what they've done to the radar. Future radar is never accurate and isn't needed. What is needed is for me to be able to look at the radar without waiting for an ad to finish especially when I'm under a tornado warning! Potentially life saving ap but gotta watch the stupid ad first.....or pay for something that used to be, and should be, free. I miss the old weather channel. It had integrity.
Have had the app for the past few years and paid the 9.99/year for premium because it was decent and I liked the radar options, especially being able to look at past snowfall. Use it everyday. Despite the fact the app crashes or won't open half the time, now they want to charge 29.99 after cutting features. Canceling subscription.
I put up with ads that last forever that you have to sit through before each video and I put up with how slow it is to load and change screens. but now I think I've had enough of the Weather Channel app. They changed the weather radar map and it's hard to navigate and not easy to read. So I'm deleting this app that I've had for 5 years because you changed it for the worse.
An immediate install on every phone for years. A staple, if you will. That's what TWC used to be. Now it's just another shameless ad, begging for your money with every screen touch, like every other app now. Thanks for holding the forecast hostage. I even paid for Premium for several months, and when I turned off auto-renewal, everything immediately became an ad to return to premium, WHEN I WAS STILL PAID UP THROUGH THE MONTH. Cant wait to give a one-time $10 or $15 to a real weather app.
This app is better than any other weather app I have tried. It's simple and gives information you need like the temperature and what the conditions are as soon as you load in, and a feature that is heavily underrated is the future radar, which shows what TheWeatherChannel predicts for future conditions, while it's not 100% accurate, it can allow you to plan ahead, and since it is visual, it can give you a better insight on what the future holds. I think 1 feature that should be added is dark mod
Once again they change something that was fine the way it was! The new "mapbox radar" is atrocious! Noone cares about future radar, it is totally unreliable. Also there's huge annoying ads at the top, and another huge tool bar at the bottom. That takes up half of the screen on your phone. The weather channel app doesn't want to provide you with vital, possibly life saving weather info, they want your money. CHANGE THE RADAR BACK PLEASE! STOP CHANGING THINGS THAT ARE JUST FINE THE WAY THEY ARE!
I have always loved the weather channel app, until you tried to make it better. Now, I can't even get the subscription I'm paying$29.99 for to install (still seeing all the ads and not getting the extras either) and the buffering is a nightmare. Paying for "Premium" should come with some advantages, like working. Come on super-geniuses, fix it.
I am getting very irritated with the lack of ability to keep the $29.99 subscription going. Bought at the beginning of the year, I have had to uninstall/ reinstall the app every 10-14 days because it keeps disconnecting from the subscription. This was bought for a business. As the most accurate app out there, I was glad I had this. Now, I have nothing more than a headache. When I get a call asking 4 updates, I can't give answers. Response is to uninstall/ reinstall and set it all back up. WBS.
Unnecessary changes. Not really impressed with this app. The radar function is not necessary and wastes valuable space and time. I switched back to premium and the app has been glitchy at best. I have updated it, restarted my phone and even u installed and reinstalled the app. Still very unstable. Thankfully the ads are gone but that is the only positive thing I can say right now.
Yesterday, the app started crashing. I got a message that it has a bug. I deleted and reinstalled this app. It didn't help. I finally de-bugged it, and it helped enough I could check the weather. This morning, it isn't functioning again. Premium Pro user here for less than a month. This makes me sad as I need the app for work related travel. Help make it work correctly again. I've used this app for probably more that 10 years and never had a problem. This makes me wonder about many things.
Wish that it was more reliable. I can't turn on government issued alerts so that I get notified about this new tornado warning in my area. The radar is extremely laggy and unresponsive. The app won't update. There's a red exclamation point in hourly, but it won't tell me what its about. Almost everytime that I open the app, a popup about their subscription gets shoved in my face.
Shame on you, TWC, for monetizing a necessary app. I shouldn't have to wade through ads, exiting and reloading the app because they have no exit buttons and take up the whole screen, in an EMERGENCY weather situation. Screw you. Us rural folks can't rely on the NWS, the closest station to me is 40 miles away on the shore of a lake, their weather is vastly different than mine. There is not a single way to get predicted local weather that I don't have to pay for unless it's with this clunky app.
Really, REALLY, dislike the radar on the new update (android). I mainly view radar in "past" option. Occasionally, I'll view the "future." Now, I'm forced to view future immediately after the "past" view plays out. The problem is that I have to watch the little clicker on the bottom of the radar to know when future begins, thereby missing the last few frames of the "past." Please bring back the option to choose either "past" or "future." If not, I'm more than likely going to use a different app.
Very accurate forecast, useful widgets and handy notifications. But at the end of the day it is just the same forecast as the stock Google weather app, just more (too much?) detailed. The notifications are the only reason I use this app as google have never sent me a weather related notification. The ads are mildly annoying, but worse than that is the price to get rid of them, £30/year for ONE device. As my wife and I both have a phone and a tablet, thats £120/year. For that money I would at least want an upto date app style wise, it doesn't even have a dark theme.
Is no longer accurate, as NONE of the weather apps are anymore. Data changes incessantly quickly. One minute it tells you it's going to rain or storm, and the next it's going to snow. The ONLY part of this app that is reliable is the Radar, and even that is sketchy. Long gone are the days of accurate weather predictions and the weather balloon. Using these apps will not provide you with ample notification of an approaching storm or devastation. At one point last winter, I shared an upcoming snowstorm that was headed for the east coast, and it was labeled as "misinformation" by Facebook Fact-checking. They ALL have become completely useless and inaccurate. Don't waste your time.
The layout of this app is better than others in the same arena. Accuracy within a few days is usually on point. Two areas for improvement-The prompts to purchase premium are redundant and can get annoying, and, the hourly weather section sometimes expands on its own, which is a messier layout when you're just trying to see the hour by hour weather. All in all, a great and very useful app!
Like most of the weather apps they are completely overdone with ads. Everywhere. Now the new"upgrade" they added a time bar for radar. Takes up more screen space than the radar. So now the radar is barely visible, with useless bar at bottom and ads at top. Go back and make radar full screen ! No ads. Just on radar. You can go without ads for 15 seconds. Just cut back on sending every weather person to areas to stand in water or snow and act like the world is ending. More weather. Less fluff
The app is excellent except for a checking the temperature. For three days there has been a Red Flag Warning for something. Each time I search for information on the app I get zero results. In cases of the aforementioned I'd like the option to turn off the warning, etc. for more than two hours. I don't have a computer so I use my tablet frequently for a multitude of things. It would be nice to not see the warning as much. EDIT: There are erroneous weather warnings being shown consistently.
This app is alright I guess. But those ads... There is so many of them! If I want to watch a video about the weather I have to watch an add. And normally that add is like a minute long! Also I get red flag warnings frequently and it won't tell me any other information other then " Red flag warning" It's really hard to find a good weather app, and I thought The Weather Channel might be the one. But I guess I was wrong.
I like this app. Like the layout. Temps can vary, weather fronts vary, we all know this. I do tend do aggree with another review. Not fond of future radar since it changes so much (just opinion). To me the last update or enhacement covered up too much of the screen. Tried out several apps over time and keep coming back to this one. Like a good hourly layout and big radar screen. Not trying to gripe, just like more radar on screen.
BEWARE! Unless you pay for the subscription, they pop up notifications to watch videos about weather news across the country...MULTIPLE times per day. No way to turn this off. If I want to see weather news, I'll look it up, I don't need random notifications for things I don't care about. Also, the app itself is fairly clunky. Ads galore and hard to find info you want. Not user friendly. I'd give 0* if it was possible.
