App Permissions Description:
• Storage: TripAdvisor uses Google Maps, which uses external/USB storage for caching downloaded map information.
• Your location: These permissions are needed to obtain your location so we can help you discover hotels, restaurants, and attractions around you. Network-based location gets a quick location, but is not usually pinpoint accurate. GPS is a bit slower to initially locate you, but is usually more accurate.
• Camera: The TripAdvisor phone app allows you to take a picture using your Android device camera directly.
• Network communication: Allows the app to transmit information to and from your phone via the Internet.
• Your accounts: We are using the Android Application Account Manager to store your credentials in a TripAdvisor account (you can find it in Settings under the Accounts tab). If you remove the app we also remove the TripAdvisor account on the device.
• System tools: This location provider permission provides more detailed location information so that TripAdvisor can pick the best possible location source for your current situation. The “test access” permission allows Android to check if it can use your external/USB storage for caching map information.

as much as it is useful to read through reviews and get some help and info, ive realised how annoying this app is when you are the one trying to post a review. after painstakingly typing out a review, tirelessly selecting the best pictures to post for your amazing stay, tripadvisor app manages to screw up the orientation of your beautiful pictures. its really really annoying because you wanna showcase how awesome some places are, BUT YOU JUST CANT.
They don't have a proper customer support service. Nor do they ensure properly to the hotel that the booking is confirmed. The hotelier is asking me whether the booking is done or not. How stupid does that sound?(Rhetorical) To add to this, the blog posts on destinations is so useless and lacks necessary information. If you had to make an interface that helps traveller choose hotels and explore the destination, I think you forget that it requires consious effort. Get your scrum right.
They have prices as just dollars, I am based in Australia and was going off Australian dollar. When the activities I booked got charged, I was charged at US dollar rates, so what I thought was $256 turned out to be $364 and you only find that out after it's done. On top of that, Tripadvisor and Viator (same thing pretending to give you options) are based in UK, so why are the prices not in £? Very deceptive.
I booked through TripAdvisor and didn't realize it was Viator that I needed to contact of which I had no phone number. Viator canceled my reservation because I had no way to contact them. Do NOT book through TripAdvisor if you unless you want all the contacts to get very very complicated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@
Many places no longer exist. This should be updated. For some reason often local recommendations are located in other states. This also needs to be fixed. It's also very creepy that the app knows where I've been to lately. Don’t like being tracked!
We had a terrible time finding Abueles Cuban Cafe in Crossville, TN because TripAdvisor has the wrong address and the wrong phone number. The owner cannot make the corrections because TripAdvisor calls the wrong phone number and then nobody answers. The information in Google is correct - please update the information in TripAdvisor! This is a great restaurant! We use TripAdvisor a lot and would normally give it 5 stars, but not this time.
I find it very useful when travelling and like to set up trips to record where we've been so we can look back. But why when entering trips does it only let you enter today onwards? I want to record what we did yesterday but can't. Very frustrating.
Do not use this app if you are trying to make it a surprise. This stupid app sent so many dumb emails and has so many differing "email subscriptions" to opt out of that I missed one and it ruined the surprise. I will not be using this again. App is also very confusing to how its organized.
An account was just created automatically and without my permission after I spent no more than two minutes on the website (also, cannot be deleted without entering the password, which I don't know because I didn't create the account in question, requests to change the password just lead you back to the front page). This is one of the most unethical things I've ever encountered in my experience of interacting with websites and apps, and I will never be using TripAdvisor for this reason.
I appreciate the information people leave because it gives potential visitor or guest something to go one when choosing lodging, restaurants, or things to do. It's a great starting point and sometimes even introduces a new place to tryout!
Best app to search the destination with hotels according to our plans and it is very easy to browse and booked hotels and packages. We can got clear understanding with other people reviews. I will recommend this app for anyone traveling.
I have a suggestion for the app design. I think more effective if put the close icon (x) for the section set of date, room & people, and filter page. So the user should not slide down the page. So it's more friendly for the user who using this app first time and they don't need confuse to do it. Thank you 🙏
Needs some fixing when opening. It has happened to me quite a few times where I open up the app after a while and even though I'm logged in my saved trips are not saved and I keep getting a CREATE A NEW LIST MESSAGE. Have to force quit and open the app again multiple times in order to get back my data. Fix it
Pictures are not loading, only a fractions of pictures can be scrolled trough. When this happens you have to go out from single picture view to gallery view and press the next picture's thumbnail to continue to scroll through the next few pictures. This repeats constantly.
Good information from reviews but can be misleading. The numbers in the listings do not correspond to the ranking of the premises in reviews. Rankings do not seem to translate accurately into a premises ranking in an area - perhaps the methodology is flawed. Overall, Trip Advisor seems to have disimproved in these regards in recent times.
I had always found Tripadvisor very useful. So I decided to download the app. Unfortunately the app does not give you any information regarding how to edit my reviews or correct the year of visit etc .... the settings section just has a single feature asking me if I want to merge my Google, Facebook & tripadvisor account. Absolutely ridiculous ! & disappointed with Tripadvisor!
Since updating the app I can no longer book flights, before updating it was working perfectly and I found it was the best place to search and book my flights from. Why was the flight option removed? It was very convenient
Trip Advisor is always reliable...I travel a great deal and it is the best source for information (other than talking to the locals). I used to use the website but the app is entirely satisfactory. Thanks Trip Advisor!
Update: Issue below has now been fixed, so now rated as 4 stars.... When I try to create a trip, I'm taken to a screen which invites me to 'unlock the best of TripAdvisor', which is ironic as this screen locks my access to TripAdvisor and I have to force close as I can't even return to the previous screen. This issue has been ongoing for a while and wasn't fixed during the last update. Reinstalling makes no difference. Very disappointing.
It is really good, but be careful not to become too American. I was just asked if this was a diner. New Zealanders don't know the difference between a diner and a Cafe. Sometimes I find myself answering unsure because neither the yes or no is correct. Eg I couldn't answer the question about single use menus because this eatery had cabinet food and a blackboard menu. I answered Unsure.
At least once a day when I write a post on the Forum I receive a message that I'm already a registered user. I did not request new registration I'm simply contributing to questions asked. Complete waste of my time because my posts are not saved. I also don't like the updated search function. I want to see all hotel reviews on a destination I'm researching and not have to enter a date.
I love that this is "one stop shopping" for anything and everything you need to know when traveling. It's all at your fingertips! It's also easy to use and to rate. I LOVE the fact it gives you suggestions of things to see and do in every city you visit and helps you find "one of a kind" experiences. The people who rate places seem to give more indepth information than other sites do and those ratings have made my trips so much more fun! I NEVER go anywhere without checking Trip Advisor!
