I love this app but it needs a complete overhaul. It is seriously lacking in user-friendliness, especially while driving. The driving mode itself is just painful, but even when it's not in driving mode, the buttons are not laid out very neatly, nor are things like 'recents' very easily accessible. I find the search mechanism a little bit annoying too. Just have a separate search for radio stations and podcasts, instead of lumping all the search results in together. Also – TOO MANY ADS.
Good overall, probably the widest variety of radio stations there is in an app. Love the speed control for podcasts. Seems to use more processing power than other single station radio apps. It tends to stop playing when screen rotation changes quickly multiple times or occasionally when displaying video based ads, though I'm using a budget phone from yesteryear. Ads are visual, are not in the audio stream, & while ads could be less they don't delay or block you from using the features of the app
Does not show new episodes correcly. Podcasts saved as favorites do not get identified and on playlists for new posts some never show up. It can not make a playlist for what's new in what you had marked as favorites. Even among the recently played it will sometimes show a dot when something new is there ...or sometimes not, incorrectly not showing one. Everything has to be looked for manually every time, and played one at a time.
This app continues to be a pain. I have a new phone and set up my apps on it. Tune In would run but would quit after 5 minutes. I would have to shut it down and start it again. I reinstalled...then I would receive about 5 solid minutes of injected (not local feom the station). I uninstalled and reinstalled. It is working better, but I cannot shut the app down unless I reboot the phone. After closing it a notice pops up on the top of the screen with the last station played and play button
I don't subscribe to podcasts or anything else but for some reason they feel the need to spam me with push notifications. Constantly pausing or stopping the streaming. This poor experience why would anyone pay for premium? Updates have made the experience worse! Now it randomly stops playing my station and just continually loops ad music. Not even a real ad, just bumper music. Maybe the onwers of this need to stop using their premium version and see the experience they deliver to people.
Seems like each update just increases the number of ads inserted by the app (on top of the ads the stations run). Still nice for keeping up with local stations while traveling. Would be REALLY nice if it actually "tuned in" radio over the air using the embedded FM chip in most phones to save data charges. Precious few apps do that though...
Great app with a bunch of content and easy usability. But there are ads in the middle of programs. Example, I was listening to a jazz station, and as the song is still playing, an ad for Wendy's or something comes on for 30 seconds. And afterwards, the song still played for a full minute. That's one example, and it's rare, but when it happens its very jarring.
It worked great for me, for years, over several phones. Then it began to eat too much battery. After the latest update, TuneIn simply turns off when it wants, leaving me in silence. Years of very positive experiences with this app (some with a premium subscription) evaporated with the latest update. I'm shopping for a new app. Sadly, TuneIn has jumped the shark. It's disappointing this app has been derailed. Thanks for those years of outstanding service. Bye.
Used to like this app, but not anymore, they have blocked all my favorite stations from playing in the UK, virtually wiping out my playlist of stations, all listed as 'unavailable in your region' so deleted off the phone and all other devices. Pity I can't give them zero stars. Now looking for another way to stream them.
Don't get fooled into buying the subscription plan, it's a scam. There might be some commercial-free content or some benefit to it somewhere but for the average user that wants to hear fewer commercials you're wasting your time and money. I was unable to test that during the trial. Because during the entire trial period, the app gave errors about not being able to load the Pro key. How convenient.
2 years later and still useless.. Crashes after pause. Marginally tolerable app. Used to be great, now frequently crashes and for some inexplicable reason it can't recover from a manual pause. It seems to recover from an automatic pause that occurs when someone calls. Otherwise, it just goes into a goofy loop tail spin that must be force closed. The best part is sponsorship ads will play flawlessly. I'll keep using it for now until I can find some other app that gets along with android auto.
I was listening to a station and walked out of range. Usually the Bluetooth will pause the player and come back on through the Bluetooth when I'm in range. Today, however, while on another floor, I was told it started playing out of the Blue and continued to do so for about 15 minutes. I closed the app and turned the volume off. About 30 minutes later worth no apps open, the station starts playing again even though the app is not open and my Bluetooth is not connected.
Used to be good, but they dropped favorites from the android app, and now it's just ads and doesn't tune into the stream. And, it's the same as, over and over and over. Realize I'm not an idiot, I know ads support the free aps, but after hearing the same ad 4 times in a row I think you've failed. Telling me to use the premium version is arrogant.
Ads continually interrupt songs, sometimes multiple times during one song edit- the response from the app devs made me less inclined to purchase the app. Why would i purchase the app if they cant even ensure an Ad doesn't play in the middle of a song? I dont care about ads, but i care that they play multiple times during one song. If the devs cant fix that, im certainly not paying them for their work.
Sometimes it works great. But the tech guys are at it again. Now it stops every so often and makes you open the app and have it restart. You expect me to go premium and put up with that? I've switched to Radio FM as my go-to now. Let me know when you fix it and promise not to "fix what ain't broken" anymore. Again...
Overall good. But I often have Power Saving Mode turned on on my Samsung Note 20 Ultra and TuneIn insists on telling me that "Turning on Power Saving Mode will cause playback to stop. For uninterrupted playback, please disable this mode" via a pop-up message every single time I change to a new station. PLEASE stop this, TuneIn! First of all, the playback works just fine with this mode on, so you're wrong. Stop being so intrusive & telling me how to use my phone! It's annoying & unnecessary!
I have rated the TuneIn App as 5* almost ever since it was available. It was the only App to offer full International choice of Independent and Mainstream streaming radio. Now there are regional restrictions and many stations are no longer available via TuneIn. There is a premium service with subscription but given the restrictions on listening now it's unlikely I will take up Premium. I do NOT want content from the UK, TuneIn offered a change from poor taste and content in my own Country.
It's a good idea, but the constant intermittent half second skipping renders it pretty useless and has resulted in the uninstallation of this app for me. I've tried different settings, I've looked for solutions, I will never purchase premium if they want get their act together with the regular version. I'll go back to Spotify.
It's a fairly good app. But I find it chops one of my favourite stations whereby the stream skips. When I switch to Radio Garden I have no such problems. Also, I don't like the ads and I would be prepared to purchase or subscribe if it weren't so expensive.
The Android TV version lacks many features of the phone app, e.g. there is no library or other way to bookmark stations. On top of that, the search-as-you-type is buggy, listing/accumulating all the substring matches in a huge list instead of replacing with the final one. Finding and going back to any content of interest is just a pain.
