afte a year or two of not using vector i treid to reconnect him but it just wont work! i've been trying for hours and it comnected to the bluetooth once but never connected to the wifi! i cant do anythung but listen to it beep and walk around, this is reidiculous and unusable :/ its turned into a waste of money honestly
Wont connect to WiFi, have tried multiple routers and hotspots. It use to connect to them years ago. Came back and it would not connect to the old ones or new ones. If it gets any closer to the router, it will be integrated at the circuit board. 😑
Can't connect Vector to WiFi no matter how much I try. So I can't update him and can't connect to services.
Hey, so I have a huge problem/bug that needs to be addressed. Long story but the first device I logged onto the vector app on is now in very bad condition. When I try log on the app on another device, it says vector already has an owner even though I'm using the same Anki/ddl account. Please make it so more than 1 device with the same account can use the app, as there is no need to make it device specific. Thank you.
I've never been able to connect vector with digital dreams lab. He's connected to the wifi and bluetooth but, he cannot follow any instructions. Basically He's useless and a waste of money since he cannot function the way he should be.
I won't complain too much because I recently paid for the subscription and everything immediately worked fine (except I was only able to connect my Vector with an old phone and not with my recent one). Problem is that updates aren't showing in the app, neither Vector updated himself automatically, so he's stuck at 1.6 instead of 1.8; while the app is updated, in fact I'm able to see the color slider but just can't use it. I will also send an email at DDL's support, and really hope to fix that.
TLDR: Would be nice if there where more features like perhaps a way to use Vector a security camera, but the app is perfectly adequate for what it is. And it's really just a way to set up Vector. Common problem: A common problem people seem to have is the new subscription, but it's obvious they don't understand that DDL would need to do that to keep Vector up. If it was out of greed, then they could easily do it with other products. But they only did it with Vector, the robot that requires cloud service. If it weren't for the subscription, Vector would inevitably shut down. This likely played a large part in Anki's shut down. Which just goes to show that DDL learned from others mistakes. Complete app review: As far as the actual app layout goes, it has a clean and simple UI. You can't customize much, but you can customize things like units of measurement and eye color. There is also a Alexa set up page; along with an easy to navigate list of commands, sensory feed, and several other stats like how much Vector has moved around, or how long he's been pet for. All in all, this is a perfectly adequate app for the bot. It doesn't have very many features which would be much appreciated. However, it succeeds greatly at what the app is meant to be. Common problem A common problem people seem to have is the new subscription. And though it is important to be aware that upon purchasing a Vector, if you want full access to the robots features, you will need to pay a subscription. t's obvious that many people don't understand that DDL would need to do that to keep Vector up. If it was out of greed, then they could easily do it with other products. But they only did it with Vector, the robot that requires cloud service. If it weren't for the subscription, Vector, and perhaps the company would inevitably shut down. This likely played a large part in Anki's shut down. Which just goes to show that DDL learned from others mistakes. Features that should be added: Some features that should be added is a security camera feature. This would require DDL to make your device and Vector connect with internet rather than Bluetooth. But would still be a good use of Vector's camera and microphone's. It would also be a way to control Vector, since a moving security camera is most useful when you can control it. Device connectivity would be appreciated, though you could technically use Alexa, for those who don't want Alexa on their Vector, or simply prefer to use Vector, an ability to connect Vector with other smart home devices would be very useful.
Robot good app bad The robot itself works perfectly fine it's the app that doesn't work at all. It keeps disconnecting me from the Bluetooth and it won't connect with wifi at all even though I have the right password and network. It's disappointing that they came up with a new version so out of nostalgia I took my vector out. Just to find out the app doesn't work at all. And it has a 2 star rating and many low ratings please fix this as the company should know this is a very cherished product.
Vector himself is amazing. Fantastic. It's a shame he has to work in spite of this app. Obviously designed for the core purpose of setting up Vector, it lacks stability and polish, with inconsistent controls, constant crashes, and [while a good bit of info] not a lot to do. Needs plenty of updates; I hope the team is working hard on it. Vector deserves an app that is useful.
I love the product but the application really needs more bug fixes and optimisation. Application often crashes when I put my phone on sleep to do something, often have to close the app and start it back up to get it to work. Also missing some things that don't make any sense for not being there. For some reason my timezone is missing (GMT +10) and location selection is random, as in some locations won't come up when you search them. No issues connecting to the cloud for updates and setup was easy, so it gets the important stuff right. It just needs that extra polish before it's an app that matches the quality of the product itself.
Lot's of potential, but as many people have already reported, app is buggy and locks up frequently. I'm also missing the lifetime stats, which I found to be one of the more interesting features of the app. They were there originally. Vector is fun though! Amazing what they have already accomplished. Looking forward to an evolving platform (and higher app rating when it happens)!
Sadly the app is useless on a Samsung Galaxy S5 and a Tab S. On both of them the app freezes as soon as anything is clicked on screen. Sadly, I can't get Vector's volume bar up since the app freezes before it can send the settings to the robot. A shame. I was looking forward to this, but I'm afraid without the app and audible feedback from the robot, this is another toy that will line the bottom of a drawer. Anki had a good idea, and for those that it works for I'm sure it's great, but for me it's a dud. Update : It seems to work on a Huawei Y6, so it could be a Samsung thing. Still, it is very annoying. Anki, please look into it. Upgraded to 3 stars.
Vector is a great product with even better potential. The application could be a bit more streamlined - in some cases it takes multiple taps to get into a screen, and the app doesn't seem to be optimized for screen scaling. Despite these, the app is still very usable and fluid, for the most part. Gives great insight into available commands and options.
Vector the robot is great, the app leaves a lot to be desired and definitely needs some work. As many others have stated it locks up frequently - mostly when in a suspended state. Also the UI needs some work - there should be better navigation buttons like arrows and hamburger menus and whatnot. Photos also take a while to load. My biggest complaint is that it takes so long to connect to WiFi and Bluetooth and it needs to do this every time we start the app...seems pretty unnecessary. I'll update my review when there are new updates
Very cute. I hope Anki continues upgrading and adding more features to Vector as time goes by. It made me laugh and it's really funny interacting with it. I hope Vector will continue to evolve and be able to do more things in the future. He is really cool and I think Anki succeeded in creating an interesting fun character in this robot. About the app, so far I haven't run into too much trouble on the app on my LG-D415. Sometimes it freezes and I have to restart.the app but it's not a big deal. Usually restarting the app fixes any issues i have with connecting. I have been able to change his eye color successfully and have access to the settings.
The robot works as advertised with minimal capabilities but pretty adorable. There is a lot of area of improvement on the AI of course but I'll focus on the Android app. The app is a user manual that is built to provide information about set up and instructions for use. My biggest problem is; EVERY MENU ITEM IS A POP UP WINDOW. the biggest issue this causes is that it breaks "back button" interaction. It also doesn't provide a navigational direction feeling; because when you select an item it also opens another pop up screen that covers the previous pop up screen. I highly recommend getting UX consultation. Android has built in ways of dividing these menus in tabs sliders and many more UI elements that navigate the mobile space better.
The app works on my Pixel 3 but... no way to close it so reopening it requires you stop it from running first by swiping up and off your running app list then reopening it. Changing Vector's eye colors sometimes doesn't work so stop the app and reopen it. You may need to leave the preferences and go back in a few times before it will work again. I suspect that this all might be something with battery saver features of the phone not allowing the app to run in the background. The app might do ok if allowed to run in the background and let your phone's screen sleep. While using the app, be mindful of your phone's battery as the screen will stay on. I think that should be an option to let your phone's screen sleep. Vector needs a low light mode for those of us who live in darker caves. You can see his camera limitations after the sun goes down by taking pictures. If you're a techie who doesn't have pets at home, then this is the robot for you. Keep up the good work Anki and maybe someday, this little guy will be seen everywhere!
Initial set up went smoothly. Scale is a little off with some text cutoff, but it wasn't hard to fill in the gaps. Software update only took about 6 minutes total and Vector was up and running. The stats worked yesterday, but today they no longer show up. Also have an issue where the app crashes when I leave it.
I had some trouble connecting to the cloud, until i realized that it was using the robot's internal wifi to connect to the internet. I just had to get closer to the wifi router and i managed to set up in 15 minutes. The app is lacking a lot of things though. I think the sole purpose of this app is to update your vector, view the photos, and learn the possible verbal commands. The robot wise, i think its really cute, but sometimes it fails to charge himself and shuts down despite the charger being right in front of him. There's definately some flaws and lack of content, but I hope to see it update continuously as they promised. Ill update this review as time goes.
10/25/2018 UPDATE: Updated the app today and still running into the same issues. Still struggling to find how Vector is as interactive as the marketing materials indicated. Frankly I was a bit happier with Cosmo - Not sure why most of the interactive features Cosmo had were removed from the Vector platform; isn't Vector supposed to be a better version of Cosmo? A bit disappointed with the app performance. I am using a Google Pixel 2 XL and I find that the app quits responding at seemingly random moments. As well, if I switch to a different app and let Vector Robot run in the background, it stops responding. Looking forward to new features that Anki may push with Vector. Right now he seems a bit lackluster - not as interactive as I was hoping for.
Vector himself is great. This app on Android on the other hand is bad. Constnt issues connecting to wifi. I run a modern mesh wifi where both 2.4 and 5ghz have the same SSID. App keeps complaining about being in the same network as Vector (which I am), but it repeatedly fails to connect. Randomly crashes, and doesn't feel like it was written for Android.
UPDATE: 10/25/18 I would really want to understand why this application has to connect every time using Bluetooth, which is very weak on vector and require at maximum a 10 feet line of sight to establish the connection, only to then negotiate a Wi-Fi connection that works through the house. I understand the Bluetooth for the first time connection, but every time is just sloppy design. UPDATE: 10/12/18 I found the menus. What looks like helper icons to tell you about Vector's capabilities or suggestions on commands also contains operation icons. What I was searching for was in the Utilities icon on the first page. May I suggest color coding the icons. When they are green it means the content contains no operation, contrary to Known Faces or Vector's photos which allow you to update faces or download photos, but if it contains one or more operations or is an operation, draw it in blue so we know it contains more than just suggestions on how to give commands to Vector. 10/10/18 Very incomplete. All the sub menus, like vector faces or vector photos mentioned in some documentation don't exist and there are no menus to get there. I put it on the floor but it seems to be content to explore about 4 square feet around it's base. I tell it to come here from about 6 feet away and it looks around but won't come.
Its alright. Just had it today and it just seemed to look round in circles and never go anywhere. Maby my apartment Is too dark? I'd like to be able to send commands using the app. I'd also like to remotely view its camera, when I'm away from home for example that would be amazing. Also maby remote control feature. This has so much potential! Please keep developing and getting us lots of nice updates with good features. This cost me a lot of money. Hope it's worth it in the not too distant future.
This app is failure. It constantly locks up. Its slow and unresponsive most of the time. Has trouble connecting alot. Not intuitive and features are burried in wiered places. Cannot even use it as a remote control camera, motion detector with push alerts and photos, or music player. Needs to be on same wifi. No cloud control. It has alot of potential but i have no idea why Anki cannot add such features yet. The robot itself is ok but wayy too slow to respond. The novelty wears off quickly and the product becomes a paperweight. Upgrade and fix your game or watch as you fail as a company.
Needs Work The App is very user friendly and aesthetically appealing however like others have said it crashes and freezes a lot and has a tough time connecting to anything. Day 1 of this app it took me three hours to get my Vector up and going where others across the internet were doing it seemingly in an hour (Not Cool!). Day three (Thurs 10-11-18) now and i got my vector up and running but freezes and connection issues still persist with this app, I still have not been able to access the app settings where i can change Vectors eye color, any attempt to do so is a guaranteed app crash. Fortunately you don't need the app from day to day, Once the initial setup is complete it seems like every interaction is with Vector himself and not the app. I have heard a update is coming out very soon with luck this issues will be nothing more than a bad memory. Vector himself is awesome everything i wanted has been achieved in this little guy, so much so that I may need to get another one because my wife who could give two craps about tech has fallen in love with this little robot. Hope you found this helpful.
I love my Vector, I've wanted one since they first came out. However, this app is not helpful and it's unfortunate that it's needed in order to do certain actions with Vector. I doubt my experience will be resolved, since so many others are having the same complication with WiFi connection, but I'd happily change my review to five stars if I could eventually use the necessary app with my Vector. Otherwise, my little Wall-E is awesome, adorable, and I love him. Fix the app though, please.
What a useless app and product!!! 1) company is too cheap to include a USB plug for what you pay for it 2) no volume coming from Vector 3) I click on settings on my Samsung S5 to adjust volume (had to Google search the issue - why should I have to do that right out of the box??) and I get a black screen. 4) App tips missing half of the ending sentence. Sending this piece of useless tech back! AND NO, I WILL NOT waste time contacting support... this should work seamlessly right out of the box!!!!!!!!
So far it works. The language commands are a bit strict instead of natural the way Google assistant is with commands. The app freezes fairly often however, crashes if you turn off your phone and start it back up. Connectivity is an issue. Experienced a lot of hugs setting up vector through app initially required restarting app multiple times. The app requires permissions but won't ask. It'll freeze until you restart. The minimum widths and spacing of styling is off on my S8 (fix CSS?)
Had a hard time setting up Vector, like others mentioned app was quite buggy and had text cut-off problems (Moto x4 here), but the most annoying was when it started downloading the update, the estimated time remaining counted down to 0 multiple times and then simply started back up again a few minutes later at a higher number I spent 40 minutes restarting the app, restarting my phone, restarting vector to finally get it to connect the first time, but connections have been fairly quick since then. Took an hour to download the initial version despite my average WiFi speed where he is at of 25 Mbps. Vector is way cool, he loves my table and I have enjoyed watching him roll around but this app was clearly rushed to release Vector on time.
I've never been able to get Vector to connect to the Digital Dream Labs Services. He connects to Bluetooth & WiFi, but never finishes connecting to the cloud. He seems neat, but there's nothing I can do with him except listen to him beep a few times and look around every now and then. Pretty disappointing.
