Installed the app based on the experience with the desktop version. Below my expectations. Basically no customization (what to see when the app opens, for example), hourly data are limited (versus desktop). No consistency in the icons used, I like the desktop version, the app versions are quite primitive, do not stand out against the white background. There is nothing here that would attract me to be look forward to using this app.
The app is good and I've been a user for over 10 years. My biggest complaint is that it does not have severe or tornado warnings that can override do not disturb settings, etc. Also would be nice if they made a few visually high end widgets that could be placed on a desktop or page on phone, resized, etc. that shows extended forecast, animations, etc. For a paid subscription app, it's slim on extra content.
I ran a weather station of my own thru Wunderground for about six years. It was lots of fun, and I was always impressed with the effort they put forth in delivering accurate and continually improved weather forecasting. ( Not always that easy for a West Coast website predicting East Coast weather). Overall: Dedicated to their craft and doing a nice job of it.
It's tornado season and they changed the map and radar. There are way less filters and layers available now. The only problem we ever had with the radar was that you could only see the past/present. They added the future at one point but now 90% of what made this app worth having is gone. Without the in depth radar options this is just an app that could be a widget instead
Always room for improvement. Overall the app works as expected. It does occasionally lag, but that may be due to several factors. At first I thought it was my Weather Station that was the issue. It's not, but my cell phone provider. Seems to like to place these service apps at a low priority for data updates. So it's most likely not the app.
Great weather app. Tons of info in both text and graphic forms. It's the one weather app I check first thing every morning and throughout the day. Current weather, 10 day forecast and hourly forecasts are all there. Their system includes data from local amateur weather stations around my area in addition to National Weather Service and other data. That makes it very precise and personal.
App has really gone downhill ever since they put features like the smart forecast behind a paywall. Not being able to report current weather conditions if they are different from what is displayed is also a huge loss in my book. Bottom line: Used to be my favorite weather app, but now I'm looking for a truly free alternative since features I used all the time are no longer available/free.
Update: either they updated the app to fix the previous issue, or it's just not a problem for my new phone. App worksgreat now. Still a little difficult to select specific weather stations. Old: Doesn't work for Android on Samsung Galaxy. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting, everything, and all it ever does is give me a loading screen and say "Please try again later." It's too bad, because I really like Wunderground, but the mobile website has gotten really buggy lately, too.
I much preferred the previous version. The app has dropped the rain accumulation portion and it's no longer easy to find a neighborhood station. The weather map is poor. IBM took a good app and ruined it. UPDATE This is now fully functional and my favorite weather channel. Several friends have switched based on the truly local information.
4 years later, and still have the same issues with radar. One image every 3 hours isn't helpful, and neither is only showing the last 5 minutes of radar. Don't have this problem on any other weather app. Like the layout, but radar is pitiful. Doesn't load more than 3-4 images, and they aren't even in sync across the map.
App has become unusable. Requires several minutes to even fully open. Have used app for many years and loved it. Most recent updates have completely broken the app. The ads used to be fine before but recently they cover sections of the information occasionally. Also the app used to have a widget that was great for a quick glance of the next few days, that has gone. This was literally my favorite app, now is being deleted from my phone.
IBM has taken one of the best weather apps and inflicted substantial damage. App is slow, has lost functions and the radar has reported false data, among other things. I love the personal weather station network. Wundermap has the best radar layers I've found. All in all, IBM has inflicted substantial damage to a previously solid weather app.
Wunderground is my go-to weather app, whether (ha ha) on my desktop or phone. I especially like the way the 10-day forecast is displayed, showing so many things besides temps, like wind, humidity, cloud cover, etc, and by the hour. It's also great for printing out screen shots for road trips.
One of the most detailed and well layed out weather apps that I've come across in a long time. And I've used alot. Everything is well designed and looks really good especially in dark mode. The only thing I would spruce up is the detail in the radar but I'm very picky when it comes to the details in radar. This is my favorite weather app now and I'm going to go ahead and get the premium subscription. Good job developers and whoever else had a hand in creating this beautiful app.
Reports are usually accurate and app has a good amount of information without being too intrusive with ads. The one big nit I have is that the alert icons in the app will be either yellow or red depending on the severity of the alert. Makes sense, but action bar or widget will always show a red alert icon regardless of whether it's a yellow or red alert. As I live in a place that gets a lot of small watercraft advisory warnings (yellow), the app is constantly showing red alerts.
My go to app for all things weather. My only issue is that the days/datesand weather don't show/align correctly. 4 am tomorrow is not part of today. Also it is often much cooler or warmer than the 'high/low' that shows, because it includes the early morning of the next day. I.E. it can be 45 degrees this morning when I check and it shows a low of 50 degrees for the day. Very confusing.
Best weather app out there. Loads fast. Gives useful details like, 70% chance of rain, .01 inches expected. Accurate as much as weather prediction can be. Update created a paid version with extra features, but it is not required just check the weather. Ads thankfully aren't intrusive otherwise I'd drop it regardless of how helpful it was.
How could they ruin it so much...wunderground used to be the best and data on website version is still very good, but it's been on a decline since weather channel bought it and I guess now IBM has put the nails in the coffin. Extremely slow to open and it is now not recognizing the correct day of the week. Useless for any at a glance forecast usage.
It's the best of the half-dozen or so weather apps I've tried, which admittedly isn't saying much. Ads are annoying but pay the bills. I'll mention two design choices that WU could easily fix. First, the lead graphic is temperature. It's in a sunburst pattern. Many (most?) people's brains automatically think of "sunny." Why not a thermometer instead? Second, the hourly forecast lists temp and wind speed. To get precipitation, you have to click again. Precipitation is much more useful than wind.
