Lovely App, Limited Off-line Support. Useful if I know what I will want to think about in the future. Not useful for answering questions I have in the moment ( unless I happen to be somewhere with internet connection). Please add support for full (or text only) offline viewing e.g. by adding ZIM file support. Wikipedia is one of the most important projects in the history of the world. Please make it available to the people of the world who don't have 24-7-365 internet connectivity.
Where is the nearby button,it was very helpful.
Absolutely amazing application for using Wikipedia on Android. I love the beta version especially because it is very functional and features a lot of cool ways to edit and browse Wikipedia in a smooth and bug-free manner with ease. I would love to see some of the more advanced tools incorporated into this app, i.e. tools from the Wikipedia Auto editor for example. However, this is not a big downside and I do not rate it any less just because I want more options. As it stands this app is great!
Seems promising. I was hoping it would provide better curation of news (it only shows a small handful of untailored news items). It also looks like the Nearby feature is not in the app, despite it being being a promoted feature on Google Play. It's a shame since that's why I downloaded this app. It would have been a game changer for writers and journalists.
They're busy formation is there Wikipedia Beta I love my dictionaryExplore feed: Recommended and constantly-updating Wikipedia content right on the home screen, including current events, trending articles, events on this day in history, suggested reading, and more. The feed is fully customizable — you can select the types of content you want to see, or rearrange the order in which different types of content appear. Color themes: With a choice of Light, Dark, and Black themes, as well as text .
The performance of the app is weak, different people in different locations have different internet strength and quality. If you can fix the following as soon as possible, i am using Wikipedia for my researches and the app can be very helpful: 1. The 'retry' connection needs to be auto, checking connection a few seconds 3 or less, the network i am using keeps disconnecting and loading a page is very hard. 2. Ability to turn off links on documents because text to speech fails to read linked text on pages. 3. Ability to save on an external drive card. 4. Image resize within the document or the page, may be text reflowing around the image, a tap on the image and resizing it. Clicking on the image and opening it on a second window or view waste time and money redownloading the page again when you go back to where you were reading. 5. Saving the pages temporarily so that when you are setting something or going to another page and required to come back to it you will not need to redownloading the page again, saves time. Thank you.
I've been using this app for years and refer to it regularly--often multiple times per day. Today I gave a middling review as I noticed that some functionality I frequently used (saving an article to multiple lists) had disappeared after the last update. Mere hours later I got a response from the developer, apologizing and asking me to test the functionality again, and--sure enough--everything was back to normal. This is [once again] a great app, with very responsive developers.
The app is sluggish. Especially when navigating between tabs.
No black mode for the widget. No free colour selection for text and background in the reader itself, only a few themes.
Great app, used it for years as an easy to use interface to read Wikipedia however it loses a star as there is no places tab (anymore?). It's present on iOS, I often use it as a passenger on long car journeys pointing out interesting features to my family, albeit often to their annoyance! Pretty sure it used to be present on Android, please can we have it (back).
Old app feels like something boomers would use compared to this. Good changes.
I wish I didn't have to click the tab button to open a new tab. That's one click too many.
What an amazing app!! I never expected this much from a single application. What I really like is that when we read an article, it has some highlighted words. When we click on them, we can instantly see the definition without opening a new tab. Also, It gives information about everything we need. Thanks a lot, WIKIPEDIA !
Generally a very good app. I was the kind of kid who would pull out an encyclopedia and read from cover to cover. This lets you explore wikipedia on your mobile device, pop up summaries, and explore a topic in hyperlink style. Still has a bug or two with image rendering, but that's small potatoes.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for Wiktionary (Dutch)
If you constantly get into Wiki rabbit holes, this app is great. It allows you to save pages that will download offline for browsing. My absolute favorite feature is the pop-up view when you tap on a hyperlink that will give you a summary of the article. Great app that's only getting better.
App performing well overall, One minor issue since the last couple of updates; the options dialog window (open in new tab, etc.) now comes up blank, needing a theme change in order to rectify. App running on LG Stylo 4+ with Android version 8.1 and latest update of Nova Launcher. Edit on 1-14: After the last couple of updates all issues resolved. App working perfectly. Rating updated accordingly. ETA 11-20 Really appreciate this latest update. Nice changes to the interface, smooth and clean.
Generally a great app, but I seem to be experiencing a bug when clicking "forgot password." It takes me to a page that says: "Internal error Your IP address is blocked from editing. To prevent abuse, it is not allowed to use password recovery from this IP address. Return to Main Page."
Hasn't crashed (good for beta). Primary reason I'm writing this is a feature I'd like to see next: Categories. The Categories on the beta mobile site work really well for me, so that's the next big thing is like in this app. Just implementing it the same way as the mobile site would be enough. After that, I'd like to see navigation boxes/templates- though that does seem more difficult. Anyways, thanks for the work!
Wikipedia app quit working this week. I uninstalled it and then loaded Beta, but the same error occurs. Once I drill down to an article, the picture header loads but not any text. I have used this app for a couple years on my Samsung Tab A, and I love it. Suddenly it is not working. What did you change?! Help!
I like the simplicity of the app. Easy to use .....superb app.....content is easy to find and well set at the screen..... text size is also very impressive... I don't have any problem to read the content.....the app should also have an read mode setting like kindle one's .....
Worked for a while but suddenly gave up the ghost and page shows an error has occurred no helpful message as a to what to do about it and the only option is to tap the back button only to find it doesn't work. App is a far cry from the normal Web site. So I un installed the dead app.
Works fairly well for me -- mostly an improvement over the web page. But I'm concerned with its reading of the phone's contacts, and with excessive storage permissions. I think for this app, best practices dictate other means than granting "dangerous" permissions.
I'm interested in testing new (and hopefully improved) features. As of right now though, I see no difference from the regular app. Which to me makes it good to use just like the regular, so I will! This also means the pros and cons carry over. I've submitted a review for the regular app in the same way. (In short, working with tabs and Explore is not yet my ideal workflow, but the clean reading experience and offline articles is awesome.)
It is Also Good, But the Original Version is the Best. Another thing this App is all the way Similar to that of the Original Version of WIKIPEDIA. So, there is no changes & improved Version of the WIKIPEDIA. So, I would request the Audience to STICK WITH THE BEST & ORIGINAL VERSION OF WIKIPEDIA.
Very good, but some improvements are needed. Like A quick home button to go to the home page from anywhere. Later on, featuring some other wiki projects like wiki-tionary, quotes, books etc in the same app would be great.
This is the best thing that ever happened to my life I think. Before the apps greatness and intuitive practical feature list and layout/design I didn't even have an account. So i was operating on a very unproductive scale. Now all I can say is this app is amazing.
App is great, cant get rid of the 'continue reading' block without going in and deleting all the tabs, would be great if you can just swipe and it goes away. overall nice UI and good app.
Love it !!!!♥️♥️💓 Great app!! Experience the better version of Wikipedia. It does provides the usefull and upgraded knowledge about the specifics we are looking for. Enables less stress while reading, offline mode and many more. The works of the company seems amazing I wish they do so much better in future .👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The dark mode is great. However, the inability to search the page (except, for some reason, when editing) is a major drawback, as is the absence of WP's Visual Editor. [EDIT:] Just found out how to force my Chrome-based Android browser to show any website in Dark Mode. (Just Google it—it's easy!) Now I needn't blind myself using WP at night—saves battery power too! So it's back to website-based WP for me, with all its features… Thanks anyway!
