I find this such a fun app! The graphics are beautiful! It's a simple game, but for some reason I love it! It took me a bit to get the hang of things and it would be nice to have some kind of instructions somewhere. Also, what are the red plants that slow down the koi? I've ascended 4 koi so far to dragons. I've had to put a limit on the time I spend on the app cuz I can easily while away the hours on this. I really hope the developers get the pro version working on androids.

Everything about it is good. I only have two issues. One is the pearls. On my first time playing the game I wasted all my pearls on eggs not realizing that you couldn't get any pearls through gameplay (that I know of) other than money and ads. My other issue is that I cannot restart my progress. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I want to restart my progress because I wasted all my pearls and I don't want to have to waste hours of watching ads trying to get them back.

Amazing Game, I Recommend It! It has amazing graphics, great background music and sound affects, and tons of koi to collect! The only thing I recommend is maybe a tutorial for when you start since I was confused, but after playing the game a bit I understood the goal and what the symbols are for. The game's also very calming and fun. Keep up the good work!

This is a beautiful game! The graphics are stunning and the music and sounds are pleasant. I've taken one star off because gameplay is so redundant. Each new koi goes through EXACTLY the same stages to transform at EXACTLY the same pace - no challenge at all after a few times. I'd give it five stars if they'd mix up the levels, and also be a bit clearer about the purpose of some of the rewards.

It's a cool game. Not too fast, easy to play, even without a tutorial. However, if you're goal oriented, don't bother. You'll not get too far ahead unless you want to let go the purse strings pretty early in the game. It's worth it, just for the artwork itself, imho. The game is as slow placed, or not, as you want it; you don't need to spend a dime unless you want to; and you can just wander around collecting eggs and playing with the one koi, or start collecting rarities, whichever you wish.

I love this game! I just wish the ads could win you more pearls. The ideal would be like 5 per ad but even just 2 per ad would be infinitely better. I also wish it didn't cost so much to open up more spaces for fish. Working up to 500 one ad at a time is very time costly. Please fix these, they make the game frustrating, when it really doesn't have to be.

It's a fairly simple concept: Eat, grow, mate, repeat. I have no problem with that, honestly. The designs are really neat and I adore the patterns on the Koi fish. It's the type of game you would play when waiting for something, a game to only distract you, not play continuously. Overall, I love it and I will give a good rating on the second one as well. Great job!

The only reason I can't give it five stars is that the cost for building a collection of koi skyrockets as you play. A collection of five or so is easily done but if you want to actually try to build up a large collection it will cost you a great deal of money or an impractical amount of your time....if I'm going to do that, I'll raise real koi! Otherwise, every other aspect of this game is excellent. Playability, graphics, serenity (until you make another egg you can't keep because you have no more slots for koi...frustration).

This is a very nice game. The only thing I would say is that the patterns are beautiful, but the colors are very repetitive & this causes a slight boredom due to knowing there is only two individual sets of color combinations: one for common, one for rarer colors. Zen Koi 2 is much better about this issue, thus the reason why I've progressed so much further in the sequel than the original game. It's barely changed since after official release, & as a long time player, I'd recommend a change.

played this one years ago, and stopped without getting my first dragon, could never figure out how to eat the pufferfish. started on the second game and figured it out, came back to this one again, it's great. just seems like it takes longer to progress to the next pond, more requirements than the second game I guess, still love them both though.

This game is extremely relaxing. Although it is repetitive I don't mind that aspect of it. I can spend an hour or more playing this trying to level up my koi, hatching eggs to see what I breed is produced. Strategizing to try to get the missing breeds is all very enjoyable. The graphics are very nice and the music is extremely relaxing. I like this game very much and will play for as long as it takes to complete. I will then download Zen koi 2. Thank you for a great little game!

Adorable game! Love that I can evolve my koi into different dragons! The only thing that's odd to me is that I can't see the rarity of each of my koi. It should say at the top if they are common, rare, etc. but it doesn't. In the collection list it tells you what some of them are, but that's not really helpful. Maybe I'm missing something? Other than that (and the fact that I have to spend actual money to really get anywhere) the game is great. Love the concept and art as well!

If you wanted an app to relax and zone out to, this would be a great choice! It takes awhile to max out your fish and for it to become a dragon, but if you have the time its worth it. Got a little repetitive in the sense that there are so many levels to pass with each fish...very enjoyable overall though!

Not terrible, not amazing. Desperately needs better controls, the fish goes where you drag your finger but as a result your finger blocks your screen and you cant see how prey dodges to chase them. Needs joystick controls like RPGs get. No information in game about why or how mating works. Update: Thanks for the info, but NONE of that is clear IN your game and that needs to be changed. I still stand by joystick controls would be way better for this game, too. Keep improving your game, good luck

I prefer this to zen koi 2, but I play both. I have been zen-ning out to this game for a few years now. I love that I dont have to stress or get tense, it helps me chill out and turn off my brain when I need to. I just wish it worked offline so I could play it on flights without wifi. Zen koi 2 is a little less relaxing since some of the fish are more challenging to catch. This version is simple, clean, easy, and peaceful. I love it!

The game is quite relaxing and pleasant to play.

Good, until game server disconnected. This has been going on since August 26 and I've done everything I can. Disconnecting Wi-Fi and reconnecting. Turning off power saving. And I've even uninstalled it. But now, it won't let me REINSTALL it. If I end up having to restart, I'm gonna be so upset. I put too much time in this game and I can't give up now!!!

I love this game. It helps me to relax as I guide my koi around the pool. The music is unique and very calming. Of late there is a slight problem. Whenever I trigger the activate to expand pool button the screen black out! I hope something can be done. Pl help.

Super pretty and relaxing. My only commentary would be about the graphics: some of the little prey creatures don't look like they belong to the same game. They probably need a smoother render and a pastel or softer palette to go along with the rest of the game's aesthetic. But nothing that makes the game itself bad, just an observation from an artistic standpoint.

This was one of my fav games a few years back before they added the save feature. I recently found it again, I stopped playing before because when I upgraded my phone I lost everything I had paid for. It's super relaxing and beautiful!! Just make sure you save!!

Ale. D. Apr 8, 2021

After playing for a bit, every time I went to see what I needed, I had to watch an ad for five seconds, which got annoying real fast. Whatever relaxation I experienced got ruined each time I had an ad thrown at me. Edit: Yes, I know that devs need to make money and all that. I just don't think irritating the player into spending money is a good way to do that. It's a cute little game otherwise.

Game is lovely. Nice and relaxing and nice graphics. As previously mentioned i had an issue with trying to eat specific fish as did other people which you have responded to and it has helped (thanks) so i genuinely feel the only thing needed to help improve this game is just a little section in the game with fish descriptions and how to best catch them so that way people didn't get stuck. Otherwise 10/10

Just swim around eating bugs; not much to it, but suddenly it's morning and you're late for work, never mind going to bed. Some challenge with the more advanced bugs (despite official advice, don't boost speed for the puffers, that just makes koi hard to control -- target them as briefly as possible (target a little beyond) and take long straight runs from directly behind) but very little stress. I do wish it were possible to "buy" (with pearls) more *egg* slots, & to suppress ad reminders.

Well, it's a pretty little game, but I have no real clue what I'm doing, as there's no tutorial. You watch for one of the icons to start pulsing, then tap the icons they tell you to. So far, it just seems like you do what the game says, no real autonomy. On a good note, I've only seen one ad so far, so it doesn't seem like it's as bad as some games. I've managed to have and hatch an egg. I hope I'll eventually figure out what the red flashing frame is for. Tip- just eat everything.

Such a relaxing game. I absolutely love the music (I actually like repetitive, looped music), and the artwork is lovely. I enjoy the challenge of collecting the wide variety of Koi, and then watching them ascend to their dragon form. I also love opening flowers to see if there is a boost, or even better, a pearl inside.

Sea. P. Sep 14, 2018

Relaxing, entertaining, interesting, and fun. I enjoy playing without fear of loss or death. Creating unique, exotic and beautiful creatures with it is a very enjoyable experience. I hope for more music variety, and possibly interactive play and mutations or play as other pond creatures, creating more individualized creations. Beautiful concept - so far! I love no in game purchases - this game has lotsa potential for diverse playability without dopamine gimmicks.

Amazing game, it might be boring to some but it is not to me. The second one is better because there are more activities and koi patterns, but both have great animation and art style. If you like games that you can chill and play this one might be a favorite for you too.

jp. s. May 14, 2020

Too much required of the player for too little reward with too many ads! The koi are sloooww without the speed upgrades. Limited koi and egg storage is a livable annoyance, but not too keen on HAVING to watch hordes of videos for pearls or spending real $$$ for upgrades (I.E. - extra slots, rare koi, patterns, etc.). The music is soothing initially, then it just begins to grate on the nerves. Not being able to restart from scratch, even after uninstalling and re-installing, sucks.

Tos. A. Oct 7, 2020

It keeps erasing my progress towards "expand the pond" gems. (Android app, latest version.) It's happening 1-3 times per expansion. I suspected as much. But then saw it with my own eyes. I was allocating "bugs" to create gems and had saved enough to generate 3 gems in one go. But, after allocating enough for 2, the leftovers disappeared. This is frustrating. I look forward to when it gets fixed and will upgrade rating to 5 stars after, as it's a very relaxing game when it's not glitching.

I haven't played the first Zen Koi game in FOREVER, my faint memories of the gameplay were aimlessly swimming around a gigantic pond. Obviously those memories were very wrong, in fact I redownloaded the app to compare it to the sequel, Zen Koi 2. Turns out, its very similar besides the design in the music, graphics and different sounds/sound effects that didn't make it into the sequel. Both games are amazing.
