12 Steps Overeaters (OA) Tool

My OA Toolkit (OAT) is an exciting new tool to help members of Overeaters Anonymous while on the go!
You can use My OA Toolkit's Food Journal as a your Plan of Eating Tool for the day or as a way to log your food throughout your day and turn your food over to your sponsor at the end of the day...

You can also use your OAT Food Journal if you become irritable, restless, or discontent throughout your day to get those feelings out of your head and in your journal. It can be like having a sponsor in your pocket and keep you from compulsive overeating!

Personally I use My OA Toolkit Journal to enter everything I eat throughout the day. Then at the end of the day I turn my food over to my OA Sponsor by emailing them my Food Journal for that day directly from within My OA Toolkit. What’s great about this is that I can see my days past entries and Identify patterns in my eating habits and see why I may have overeaten on a certain day...

It also has an Abstinence Date Calculator that will help you track how long you've abstained from Overeating by total hours, days, months, and years.

FEATURES:

• Food Journal / Diary

In addition to writing our inventories and the list of people we have harmed, most of us have found that writing has been an indispensable tool for working the Steps. Further, putting our thoughts and feelings down on paper, or describing a troubling incident, helps us to better understand our actions and reactions in a way that is often not revealed to us by simply thinking or talking about them. In the past, compulsive eating was our most common reaction to life. When we put our difficulties down on paper, it becomes easier to see situations more clearly and perhaps better discern any necessary action.

You could also use your journal to create your plan of eating. As a tool, a plan of eating helps us to abstain from eating compulsively. Having a personal plan of eating guides us in our dietary decisions, as well as defines what, when, how, where and why we eat. It is our experience that sharing this plan with a sponsor or another OA member is important.

There are no specific requirements for a plan of eating; OA does not endorse or recommend any specific plan of eating, nor does it exclude the personal use of one. (See the pamphlets Dignity of Choice and A Plan of Eating for more information.) For specific dietary or nutritional guidance, OA suggests consulting a qualified health care professional, such as a physician or dietician. Each of us develops a personal plan of eating based on an honest appraisal of his or her own past experience; we also have come to identify our current individual needs, as well as those things which we should avoid.

Although individual plans of eating are as varied as our members, most OA members agree that some plan — no matter how flexible or structured — is necessary.

This tool helps us deal with the physical aspects of our disease and helps us achieve physical recovery. From this vantage point, we can more effectively follow OA's Twelve-Step program of recovery and move beyond the food to a happier, healthier and more spiritual living experience.Source: http://www.oalaig.org/about-oa/the-eight-tools-of-oa.html

• Gratitude List If you create a Gratitude List using My OA Toolkit on a daily or weekly basis it will help you abstain from compulsive overeating!

It's been proven that if you put aside a minute or two every day to express gratitude for your life you will feel happier, more determined, more energetic, and more optimistic. — This was proven by a series of studies conducted by Psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough.

"What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life." — Oprah Winfrey

The app helped me to reconnect with my higher power. I like that it's easy to open and it's on my phone I can text I can speak and I can share. It helps me to organize my thoughts because I'm very disorganized and distracted throughout the day it's just one less thing I have to obsess over

I love its very simple but thorough format. However I am very frustrated because it doesn't autosave and one "back button" mistake can erase 20 minutes of writing and reflection. I am losing interest in this app which makes me sad.

this app has been great for me so far. I can sync my OA account with it, I like that the purchases stay with your account. I dont have a sponsor, but I am happy for this app! I was just writing everything down in a journal, but I like this because it's all in 1 spot! I'm not sure its actually affiliated with OA, but I'm thankful for it.

Love this app! Makes my abstinence better every day. Very thorough. Had 8t for a few months now and just finally upgraded to Pro. Totally worth it to be able to easily send my nightly inventories and my 10th steps to my sponsor. Highly recommended!!!

This app is very useful and user friendly. I would have liked an option to click on a prayer option during the time we fill in the nightly/spot check list.

This App is a really good way to live my program every day. It is easy to use and very comprehensive. I can record my food, do Step 10 on the spot, start my morning using the prayers and end the day with a review. Amazing.

Extremely useful! It has all the key readings needed to work your program. And the tools for nightly inventory make it really easy to review our day.

It deleted my entire night inventory f/last night& gratitudes f/the day b4! Plz update. I shouldn't have to take screenshot as "insurance" 4 the work I've done. I do like that I can do inventory (spot & night), gratitudes, & food journal in 1 app, & share with my gratitude buddies, my inventory buddies, & my sponsor...but it's glitchy. When I share, it lists #6's answer twice, 1x on 6, 1x on 7, and skips #7 (I'm on Android, sponsor who recommended it is on IOS), it can't handle the '&'.

Beginning my journey-this app is fantastic, user friendly, really helps unjumble thoughts and patterns of behaviour, can edit all tx at any time, reset starting date, would highly recommend 😁😁😁😁😁

Love this app! I've only been using the free items--prayers and daily reading. I use it as a lodestone--a place to focus my attention during my morning routine. Because I love it so much and am grateful for the app, I paid for the subscription.

Good app and it's free! There are options for add ons, but very reasonable.

This app is pretty alienating for the irreligious user. I wasn't able to keep it because of the very heavy-handed supernatural content. It's the entire doctrine, it seems, so there really isn't a way around it for those of us who don't follow myths. Too bad it isn't science-based. Best of luck to everyone who is helped by this app, though. Cheers.

I love this app. Nathan is reacheable. And answers his e-mails. The inventories keep me on my toes and I just discovered the food journal. So handy when you are working a food program. This is a daily maintenance tool of recovery. Thank you Nathan. Next, I will buy the daily gratitude portion.

How do I delete my account and revoke permission to use my email? Very unclear. There should be more clarity that this is a prayer/Christian app. It also glitches and can't go back from the "affects" page.

Easy to access, understand and follow. Makes it so easy to stop, pause... I like to read one of the prayers, and make better choices! Thank you for making this available❣

This app is well worth the $10. One time fee. I can send my sponsor my food, do a 10th step, read prayers, do a spot check inventory and text to my sponsor. I love it and recommend to my sponsees.

Daily use, daily record, have missed time but always go back & continue. Compact & holds relevant required information close at hand. Love it ++++

Really kind helpful approach. Nathan who's over the app is easily accessible with fast response. This app has prayers in it also, along with food journals and so much more. Download and try for yourself. Thanks Nathan

Possible improvements: Instead of the AA Daily Reflections use an OA daily reader like For Today or Voices of Recovery. In spot check inventory, provide space to elaborate on the effects and the turnaround portion.

amazing app! I start my day off by reading the daily reflection and it miraculously seems to be the right time for me!

I love this app. The readings of "on awakening", the St. Francis prayer and the Thomas Merton prayer really set this app apart from others. My go to readings every morning.

Apr. D. Jul 5, 2019

I love being able to see at a moment's notice how long I've been abstinent. I love having the prayers right at my fingertips as well.

I love that everything for Step 10-11 are here on my phone in one place. This works for me and keeps me doing my nightly inventory.

I love how this app stays true to the literature and makes it easy for me to share my inventory with others.
