With many software options at my disposal, Campaign Lab is my go to for running combat and general note keeping. This app will absolutely save you a ton of time, especially when needing to whip something up on really short notice. Also, I've found it makes a great spur of the moment idea-to-file tool, wherever you happen to be when inspiration strikes. The "copy' feature which is used to modify existing items/spells/creatures is well orchestrated and supremely useful. What more could you want?
I've spent years looking for an app I could use to build and scale combat encounters for my players, and this is exactly what I wanted. It allows you to create a party and then design encounters based on the size and level of said party. It even allows loot to be added AND has a combat tracker, meaning everything can be in one place. The interface takes some getting used to, and can definately be improved (along with a night mode to make things darker), but functionally it works great.
so like it's the smoothest, most organized app that I've ever had for D&D and I'm super happy I found it. But the big downside: Its not all that easy to navigate. I mean, relatively easy but still, it's hard to get to where you need to go quickly. and being a DM, I need to get to my notes FAST. My suggestion would be to put a drop down menu. That's a lot of source coding and all that, I understand why you wouldn't do that, the app is barely supporting itself (Also closed on me like twice) so ya.
Fantastic software. I use it every session of D&D for planning and running encounters. My only complaint so far is that when my phone had to be replaced, my premium status did not seem to transfer. I emailed the contact number a week ago and still haven't heard anything. Overall, I highly recommend it, just don't lose it.
absolutely amazing! Well worth the purchase for the full app! There are only two things I wish was added. One, the ability to create spells. This is easily side stepped with being able to make items but it woild be nice to be included in the spells section. And two, pictures get saved in the notes when i add them. They always seem to not load. Edit: the spell creation is a thing of beauty!!
I have had such a great experience using this app. It makes encounters effortless. I type in the kind of monsters for our mission and often just select the difficulty I want that encounter to be. If I don't like the first selection I keep tapping the difficulty and it cycles different choices. Add in any loot drops. It's perfect. I used to spend literally hours a week calculating and adjusting the xp per encounter. Never again.
Its describes what it does well, it lives up to those expectations for me. Simple enough to navigate and use! And I definitely will continue to use it. One thing I think would be nice would be the ability to share campaigns I am building between devices. On my commute to work I work mostly on my phone. But when DM'ing I prefer to read my notes off of my tablet.
I have to say, the more I use this app, the more I love it. I've been using this app for over a year now and it has become an essential part of my DM tools. I run initiative from it, look up spells, items, monsters, plan my my encounters, and even calculate XP. I can create custom everything and the best part is it can all be exported/imported for sharing your custom creations. Worth every penny. THANK YOU!
I love this application, the encounter manager is great. I love being able to setup the common encounters for a region in chapters. Auto rolling monster init saves time and helps keep the adventure going. Only issue I have is the app often lags or crashes on any device I run it on. I still consider it a great application for a DM to use. Please fix the crashes.
Am quite new to DnD, and this helps me a lot with sorting out the game, what to do and give, etc. Only problem is that the app crashes when I try to add an image in the notes, and after that I can no longer access the notes tab that the image is in. Im unsure as to if this is only because of low specs or because of the app itself, though. In any case, good app: just dont use images in it for the mean time.
It's a great app for a Dungeon Master, but I'm having an issue where whenever I run an encounter for my party, if I click on one of my party members in the tracker and then back out of that the app crashes instantly and this happens repeatedly without failure. If this could be fixed I would definitely give this a 5 star rating.
I would give it 5 stars but even though it says you fixed the problem with it crashing when backing out of certain areas the app still crashes. In my case it's usually after adjusting stats in combat I hit the back arrow and it crashes almost every time. So if you could fix that, that would be amazing and I'll gladly change my rating
It's a useful tool for d&d 5e. Instead of having to flip between pages like I once did, I now have a tool that puts all my npc combatants in one place with the proper stat blocks. It has light campaign design elements that are nice to have, but aren't anything to write home about as it excels better at being a hub for your monsters, spells and magic items and a way to display your encounters in a less time consuming matter. I give it five stars as it accomplishes speeding up combat. A few things I would love to see would be on the fly minor adjustments for npcs that have special features from their base stat block and some minor redesign in the campaign menu- maybe harder lines between elements.
It's a very bare bones experience as far as that goes but it is good for what it's providing. Only problem I reliably seem to come across, is that the Filters for searching items, simply don't work. They work for spells and creatures but not items which is very frustrating because whenever I need to look up items for shops or hoards.
This app is amazing! Takes a little bit to get use to the interface and how the filters work. But once you get it down its great! Running a homebrew campaign and 32 sessions in. Bought the full version after 2 sessions. Notes if youre having issues with the app: If you run into issues where things arent displaying correctly, set your filters to default and redownload the source materials. Found that after android updates sometimes itll behave oddly till this is done.
The ability to package your files and send them so easily to another device is enough. I had an amazing note app on my old phone that isn't available anymore, and left me with no way to transfer my notes other than to rewrite all the text or transfer them via another app. Campaign Lab saved all my lengthy notes and countless hours of creative writing. Not to mention it has more text options like Bold, italics, margin spacing, etc that most or none of the top rated note apps can match. Thx
Its an amazing encounter builder and combat tracker. Although, you can only save 1 encounter for the f2p. The pay wall is only 2 bucks last time I checked, but some might still be turned off. However, i was not and still love this app. Around the table save a whole lot of time. On a vtt i dont use the tracker, but I can still quickly build encounters with monsters from a many different books.
I've been using the free version for awhile and it's pretty great! Runs smoothly and has plenty of nice options, a real boon to my campaign. I just paid for the full version and now any time I use the encounter generator, it locks up after the first randomly generated encounter. Fix this or im going to ask for my money back soon.
I love the random encounter generator and the filters you can use in the settings to narrow down the monsters. (I only wish you could filter spells by level ect but its fine) The intiative tracker is amazing for combat but as far as I can tell giving advantage or disadvantage before the combat starts doesnt do anything and needs to be fixed. Other then the small things I have listed this has brought so much value to our campaign. When the things ive mentioned change ill rate it a 5!
Erased my notes in a campaign 3 times. 3rd time was a whole session of them. Can't use an app that won't actively save progress between swapping to home or another app. That said, if it doesn't do that to you, it's amazing.
The premium version is well worth it! I look forward to future updates. Its really helpful once you learn to navigate it. Maybe a short tutorial would be nice. I recently figured out how to plan a lot of my campaign on finally and its really awesome! It could use a few more things in that manner, but being so novice it would probably just be more complicated than I could handle. So overall I'm still really happy with this app.
