66 Express Lanes

The 66 Express Lanes (Inside the Beltway) mobile app helps find the estimated toll for a trip on the express lanes of Northern Virginia’s I-66 Inside the Beltway, between Interstate 495 and Route 29 in Rosslyn. Tolls on the Express Lanes are only in force for certain times of day, and in certain directions of travel.
Through a simple calculator-style interface, users must select their direction of travel, their entrance point onto the I-66 Express Lanes, date and time of entry, and their exit point off the I-66 Express Lanes. The app will display the estimated toll for the trip. The app provides historical toll prices, up to and including current toll estimates.
You don’t need to register to use the app. The 66 Express Lanes app operates anonymously. We don’t receive or record any identifying information about you or your phone.
• Please note that only valid dates/times when the tolling is active will be accepted into the calculator.
• Please also note that the figures provided by this toll calculator are for approximation purposes only, and may not match the exact prices seen on invoices from the roadway operator.
The app contains a link to the I-66 project website, so users can navigate to learn more about the implementation of the 66 Express Lanes, check out FAQs, and leave questions or comments for VDOT. There is also a link to Virginia 511, so that users can check on traffic conditions throughout the Commonwealth.
IMPORTANT – This application is intended to be launched while the user is not operating his or her motor vehicle. User agrees to use the Application responsibly and to avert any interaction with mobile devices while driving a motor vehicle.

If you're not going to allow us to save defaults since 99.999% of users follow exact same route everyday, at least remove the silly animations that does nothing but test the user's patience and delay the information we're after usually seconds before having to make a decision.

Another gov software failure. I have to tell it every day where I'm getting on and off? Garbage. Seemingly the first protect ever for those who wrote it

Typical gov't waste of time and money with this horrible app design. Way to keep the stereotype going!

There's no way to save defaults. This is a fatal flaw and should be top priority for new development. I'd like to open the app and immediately see the current toll estimates for my commutes to and from work. It's getting really annoying to have to click through the same exact sequence of steps every single time I want to check the toll amount. I'd also be content if the website version of this app had a hard URL I could shortcut to quickly see the tolls for my commute, but that also doesn't work.

It's very slow to come up on my phone. It's also very cumbersome to use. This app should also be able to save your favorites. Finally, it seems to use a lot of data for the information that I get.

It's good to know what the toll is, but there has to be a faster, easier way of accessing the current toll cost. With dynamic tolls that are updated every 5 minutes, a lot can change between work and the entrance. Trying to fiddle with this app while on the road is not recommended, so having the ability to save a trip, or have the selected toll dynamically update to reflect the current tolls would be immensely helpful.

The app is very inefficient, but gives you toll prices. You should be able to set & save your default Entrance & Exit for both East & West bound travel. 99% of the time I will make my toll decision based upon the those defaults. A smart redesign would allow you to save them and simply click East or West bound travel with your defaults. Think click efficiency/ minimizing taps to get the info you want! What say you developers to this great improvement?

Road tolls are punitive. It should be a first order responsibility of government to make and maintain enough roads to allow productive citizens to get to their jobs. Dynamic pricing should be illegal. If you commit to getting on a toll road thinking it's going to be $15 only to find when you get there it's over $30. Now you've committed to the route and taking a non-toll option isn't possible. If you agree to the charges and make your way there, that should be the rate you pay.

Although this provides the ONLY online access to current 66 tolls, it is clunky and DANGEROUS to use. Please provide a simple table of all tolls from all entrances to all exits, that can be refreshed with one "less" distracted touch.

Please allow a user to save a frequently used trip rather than having to input entry and exit points to calculate the fare each time the app is used.

App does not allow you to select a future time, only the current time.

You can't actually change the time on the estimator. This is useless.

Same as website. Should let you store frequent trips

Good app, agree that saved routes would be helpful.
