Daniel Goleman argues that IQ isn't everything , our current view of intelligence is too narrow ignoring important abilities that determine how well we do in life .
Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and govern your own emotions and the emotions of others.
Three skills are involved: emotional awareness; the ability to overcome emotions and put them to the test such as thinking and problem solving; and the ability to govern emotions, which involves regulating your own emotions and inspiring or reassuring others.
