I just updated my review, since ultimately the support addressed my problem in a satisfactory way. I just wish it hadn't taken so long! Overall the Ukrainian - English dictionary I'm using for several years by now, is the best solution I could ever find. Some great features : links with previews, declension, stress. Unfortunately there are also many little glitches too (broken links, wrong declension etc), that's why I can't give 5*. I hope in a future update, they will be corrected.
First of all I've been using this app for many years and really enjoy it. However after updating my phone from Android 10 to Android 11 the app became very unresponsive... it was taking forever to run app or to search for a word and quite often I was getting an error that app isn't responding. Reinstall didn't help at all. It turns out that the issue was if you store your dictionaries on the external storage. After moving all my dictionaries from external storage to internal storage the issue went away. Question to developers: is there any chance that external storage will be fully supported again? That would be awesome! Thanks.
I just started to use this app, but I really would like to say that the app is actually great. Everything is so properly and conviniently orginized that I can't even explain. The app is totally user-friendly. However, it would be nice to have own vocabulary, where you can add your new words and learn them as much as you want with different exercises. And even if the app tells you that you have already learned a word, the user could change the options and learn this word again.
The icon of the app is red, the colour of the dictionary is red, the inside top bar suddenly became greyish blue. Why? That is very confusing, total cognitive dissonance. Now every time I use it, I wonder whether I'm in the right place and whether I can trust the app. Please reconsider the colours. Have been using it for about 10 year, and everything was great until last updates. Now the app is changing unpredictably....
When it works, it's nice, but I wanted to avoid having multiple dictionary apps for different languages, and it keeps losing my PT-En dictionary and just searching everything in the Fr-En dictionary . Dictionary still shows installed when I look it up, but can't be used and doesn't appear in the "installed" tab. I don't want to have to keep clearing the cache and/or reinstalling every other week.
The app is great, almost perfect regarding user-friendliness. Adding "wildcard-search" and "full-text-search" options would be a great enhancement. Moreover, as someone has already pointed out, some featured dictionaries/languages are rather basic (e.g. russian-german and vice versa). I hope that you will work on these, then I would call this app the best dictionary app on the market.
The app isn't evolving. The dictionaries are old without modern internet terms. It doesn't have favorites button or feature for learning.
I've been using this app for about four or five years. The vocabulary is not very rich, so for the less common terms I use other dictionaries. There are 2 reasons for me to use ABBYY: 1) it works offline 2)it provides different forms of words, which is handy for such languages as Latin or German. However, I wish the vocabulary was larger. And also what did you change the red design to a blue one for? It feels like I'm using some other app instead of ABBY and the blue also a bit depressing
While I love the application, I couldn't rate it more than 3 for one simple reason. iOS version of the same app allows to create cards to learn vocabulary. For some reason this functionally omitted in Android version - a huge loss for me. While the cost of dictionaries is similar, hard to explain this difference between two platforms.
A long time ago, when I couldn't speak English language at all, and just started learning it, my teacher told me about this app. I got home and then decided to download it. To be honest I thought that this dictionary cannot be better than google translator. But, I was so wrong since I find this app very useful in terms of examples of the certain word in different contexts, so I could understand when to use particular word. Not just raw translation of the word. Great app!👍🏻 I recommend it!
I love the app and have been using it literally for around 10 years now. Everything is so fast and it's very convenient to have all dictionaries in one place. Update: And the team has now also fixed one small issue with the speed at the start of the app. Great work, thank you so much! Everything is phantastic now!
Very good application with a large set of dictionaries, although they are slowly outdating. What is also missing is any kind of learning support. It would be nice to create flashcards from dictionary entries and then train them with Spaced Repetition System (see Anki or similar apps).
I'm so disappointed. This app was the best for me in past and I never thought about this application in this way but now it's really the worst application I've ever used. Check for audio of British English and American English as well. After each update the application gets worse and worse. Hope you'll fix it in future upgrades and good luck!
Needs to support wildcard searches, for example m*se to get moose and mouse and mongoose etc. And it needs one for multiple vowels, and one for a single vowel, and one for a single consonant. They could charge for this feature, up to $50, and I'd get it.
The long startup problem seems to be solved. Thanks. Rated 4 stars again! --- Degraded in quality. After recent upgrade the application shows meaningless picture right after starting. This delays the use. -- Contacted support as advised. Received a generic meaningless answer :) Changed the rating to 1 star.
A useful app that's been with me for years. There is just enough vocabulary in the free version to help with every day searches. It shows stresses and transcription, and it's easy to use, so I would recommend 10/10
I have a paid version of Windows app. This app is very poor in comparison to free Yandex translate or Linguee or Reverso $59.95 for a premium dictionary for a not very user friendly app is exorbitant. Basic and essential dictionaries are useless. Yandex for free provides much more vocabulary and translation examples like Reverso or Linguee. It also saves a phrasebook. It is quick to use. $59.95 today is an extremely high price for an online dictionary.
During many years I used this app that number one for translations. Multiple dictionaries, great design, perfect usability and amazing service support that resolved my issues right away when I was moving all apps from old device to the new one. Thank you for doing great work!
Guys, please add a gesture: when you swipe from right to left in the bottom part of a screen the search result is cleared and keyboard shows up and you can start typing a new word, this will be very convenient way to use your dictionary with one hand.
Hi, recent updates caused severe malfunction that I hope you'll address and fix asap. After updating, the app suggested enabling a lists function and after pressing "keep disabled" it returned "Unfortunately Abbyy Lingvo stopped working". Reinstallation of the app and even restoring the tablet to factory setting and installing the app on a clean one did not help. I'm using Lenovo Yoga.
Very useful and convenient dictionary. A good packages available. Translation with examples. Interface is very friendly. Unfortunately, adding words to favorites and Flashcards option are missing.
I use this for Russian-English translation. It has a lot of great dictionary. Some of the english translations are slightly off (when it comes to expressions) but usually i get the gist of what the translators mean. Love the audio and stress marks.
I like the app, thanks to the team of developers! Though, after the update I can't see the forms of a words when swipe left. Seing all the forms of the word in different tences was very convenient. Please, let me know if the function is still there and if it is, where?
It didn't work on my device (GH-I8200 Android v. 4.2.2). If this app isn't compitable with old versions of Android or limits please specify it in the description. I installed this app but it could not be opened. I hope you'll fix it soon, because the older version of the app worked perfectly.
I'm really angry with this developer! 3 years ago I bought them a Spanish dictionary (Larousse), and after I upgraded my phone, I tried to install again the dictionary from the ABBYY's dictionary list. However, I discovered that the dictionary was not anymore in that list! I wrote them to ask what was happening and their response left me stunned! They told me they use to "lease" "external" dictionaries for a limited period, and that the Larousse's "leasing time" was expired. It is the first time in my long life I see something like this! I have never bought a book nor a dictionary for a limited period! Usually you just buy it and it belongs to you forever. What kind of service is this?! I give them 2 stars because they answered me, but I can't forgive them for their unsatisfactory "limited period" policy.
Thanks for the update! App feels a little smoother now. The only problem I have is that it doesn't follow system dark mode setting. Also, it seems like video recognition has been changed a lot, yet "About app" section in Play Store still describes old behavior. Please consider updating Play Store description.
With the last version, there is now an opening screen that is totally pointless and takes too long to access the dictionary. Disappointing... Please remove the opening screen, at least add an option in the settings to let the user remove it... EDIT: when the app starts. With some phones, putting an app on the background kills the process (even when the power settings are set not to do that), so it s almost every time for them. Very disappointing, the previous version was way more effective...
