Accurate Altimeter Free
- Using GPS satellites triangulation. No internet connection required, quite accurate with clean sky but works only outdoors and it's slow.
- Using the ground elevation at your current position. Accurate but require internet connection and works only if you are at ground level.
- Using the pressure sensor of your device (if available). If it's available internet connection it calibrates itself on the nearest weather station pressure to improve accuracy.
The best choice for your excursion it's the pressure sensor method. But we recommend to launch the App just before leaving so it calibrates itself taking pressure from the nearest airport weather station. So measure will be reliable for few hours even without an internet connection.

Full page ad popped after only about 20 seconds of trying it. Uninstalled. [Response] I'm sorry, but it happened the very first time I tried it and I had used it far less than 10 mins. I'm certain of it. Perhaps there is a bug somewhere. I looked at the 3 altitudes, then went to look at the settings, and the ad came up after I left the settings. I've been a professional developer for over 35 years--bugs are a part of the development life cycle. I sincerely hope you find the problem.
Update - this was apparently a temporary glitch - I've succeeded in downloading these areas now. ------- I bought the Pro version today. I used it on a local hike today and found it to be accurate. However, when I later tried to download several areas for offline use, only some of them successfully downloaded. One didn't respond to the download arrow at all. Another displayed an outline of an empty cloud and did not proceed to download. It appears that this app only works with certain areas.
Works extremely well! I recommend using barometer-based elevation. However you must be careful when using barometer elevations. You must either record a known elevation or calibrate at some known elevation. Then you also must either adjust elevation readings for change in atmospheric conditions or else assure your readings occur with very little time difference between readings. For measurements taken over a brief period of time, this is easy. Otherwise it is hard.
Not accurate... Depending on what you call accuracy I suppose. I held it in position above my head and it said 10m, walked down a flight of stairs and put it on the ground and refreshed it and it said 13m. So probably 6-7 meters out at least. Fine if you're hiking, no good for accurately working around contour lines with precision.
I never had a problem with Ac Al until today. After having not used it in many months, I notice my Android phone notification screen showed an warning: Disregard previus (sic) error message. While the risk is slight, I am treating this as a potential exploit. There are too many competing products on the market to tolerate behavior that indicates incompetent programming at best and a security hole at worst.
Superb, provided basic knowledge of geography, a little physics, and general intuition makes this app worthwhile for keeps. It would be less useful in areas where signal is weak or inexistant. Paired with a good weather app, why , we can almost predict the severity of the elements coming our way... at least as general guidance.
Works fine on phone running Android 11. Worked fine on tablet also until upgrade to Android 12. Screen continually rotated from vertical to horizontal. Could not get it to stop. Had to use power and volume down to turn off tablet. Must be an Android 12 incompatibility thing?? Uninstalled for now. Tablet is a Samsung S7
Worked, the photographed dial looks shoddy and with the black text, dark red needle on dark brown inner mat, isn't easy to read or particularly useful. If I was changing elevation quickly this arrangement wouldn't help reveal rate, the only value of analog dials over digital readouts.
Over all, the Accurate Altimeter is very cool. It is extremely sensitive. When I raise the altimeter ( my phone ) above my head the altimeter value supplied by the app increases by 2 feet. The free version of this app is good for relative altitude measurements, not absolute ones. I drove to the airport this ap uses as a reference. The known altitude at this airport is 634 feet above sea level, but the app measured 614 feet ( off by 20 feet ).
Works great even when you don't have an internet connection. I have tested it many times against elevation signs along the side of the road and it it's always right. Works well in remote areas on GPS by itself.
Despite your kind response, I have to tell you that I have had altimeters that required GPS and acess to the internet (mobile OR WIFI) . And that was all. It was a simple app. with those two requests. They're both in the hardware of the phone. Unlike the SD Card that I can take out. However you seem to need it. I deleted my comments and am telling you why such a good app doesn't fit my personal requirements. Cheers. Google give up. I've answered back.
I actually haven't fully vested this app. I live at the edge of the Atlantic and can calibrate sea level at mean tide then climb the hill and go into the hayloft and see the results verifiably. This app serms fairly accurate. I haven't used the other features bit I won't withhold stars. These 5 stars are for ease of use, accuracy and developer involvement (nothing worse than buying an abandoned app but this guy seems cool). I dont really NEED an altimeter but somehow LG forgot to include one .
I know I'll find this app quite useful in the near future, but for now it's kinda fun just watching the app mark my altitude every 5 min. Curious sidenote - all the "tell us more" automated questions from Google in this feedback form have ridiculously little to do with an altimeter app. I'd be interested to know what the dev did to confuse Google that badly 🥴🤪🤤 [Edit to respond to dev] Ha! Easy to use and accurate enough for my purposes. Used it to validate the site plan for my 5 acre lot. Was confused by some of the barometer settings, but AR tech support cleared that up after a few prompt emails. Would recommend this app for sure.
Screws up completely in barometer mode, even with calibration from local barometer or data from a local airport 30 miles away. GPS "altimeter" works as designed yeah. I regret buying this. Not that I mind the money (it is dirt cheap) but it just did not deliver. Too bad.
I use this while hiking. I love the altitude history and how well it works when offline. I just hopped on the play store to purchase it after trying the free version for a few months. I rarely review apps but this one has a special place in my heart.
Works perfectly, shows not only the calculated output but also all relevant input data, so you can calibrate other equipment by using it (as long as you trust your phone sensors that is)
Was working fine but now does not work at all just a blank screen. Had similar problem with A. Barometer, until AR fixed it. Hope they can do the same with Altimeter.
Works as stated and seems fairly accurate, comparing to land data maps. Good having the two sources to give results and compare.
I've used this app while traveling in Peru and Costa Rica. Been useful and reliable readings. A companion had an apple watch which purports to give good readings. The readings from this app proved more accurate.
Works well with both calling. 7 and GPS but with non-baro phones, appears to be low in elevation with no way of cal.
Measured at various altitudes and works as expected. Not sure about the accuracy though.
Was looking for app that would tell me altitude without being connected to internet , login etc This one works with only gps activated without any issues. Good job. Simple and effective. Thx
I wanted a simple reliable way to tell my altitude when outdoors. This is it. I dislike too many features on an outdoor app as I often can't see the screen that well and touch options by mistake, eg I end up taking videos instead of photos. If you are older and need glasses for close detail and the screen is in bright light fiddly details on a screen are hopeless. With this one I get the phone out and soon know my altitude as best as possible. Next make an app that locks your phone settings!
