Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!

WARNING: This is a highly addictive mobile and VR game that MUST BE INITIATED BY A PLAYER WITH A VR HEADSET (Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift or HTC Vive) and played with at least two people who join the game on mobile devices.

The golden acorns are under attack! It’s up to you and your friends to protect them or steal them - depending if you are playing on a VR headset to take on the role of an extraordinarily protective tree or as one of several crafty yet thieving squirrels on mobile - in the new cross-platform party game, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!, from Resolution Games.

This hilariously fun experience must be initiated by a player with a VR HEADSET (Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift or HTC Vive) who creates a room. He or she then connects to two to eight frenemies on their iOS and/or Android devices by giving them the assigned room number that they enter into their device when prompted in order to become rebel squirrels that'll do anything to steal the golden acorns using an arsenal of unique abilities.

The game is at its best when played as a couch party game together with a group of friends and is both competitive and cooperative in nature for players across VR and mobile devices. Once in the game, one player in VR takes on the role of a large, ancient tree that tries to knock out the squirrels that are out to steal the nuts by using the controllers to grab and hurl wood chunks, boulders and sticky sap to keep the squirrels at bay. Meanwhile, the band of squirrels (players on mobile) can leverage a myriad of tools and distraction tactics, including the ability to pick up and plant seeds that grow into pumpkin barriers, plant bushes to hide behind, place mushrooms they can use as leaping pads and more - while working together to develop strategies to outsmart the tree in order to scurry around and gather as many acorns as they can.

Meet the band of rebellious squirrels out to steal the golden acorns:
Zip - quick witted and light-footed; she’s the fastest squirrel and has speed running abilities
Chunk - the gentle giant with a heart of gold who protects his friends by carrying a shield
Doug - not the smartest acorn in the bunch but channels his rage issues to dig tunnels that allow for safe travel underground
Sim - a crafty little rodent who’s kind of nutty and builds ramps for vertical movement

** If the overprotective tree wasn’t creepy enough for you, the forest just got a whole lot more spooky with the latest update featuring a new level called “Haunting Horrors”. Plus, the squirrels are swankier than ever with all new skin packs!

Jungle Boogie Pack - Let your animal instincts take over with this totally wild skin pack!
Mobster Madness Pack - You’ll feel like the big capo with this waste management business skin pack.
Haunting Horrors Pack - A full moon rises, bats fly overhead and this skin pack rises from the grave.

Played this with multiple groups of people, and it's loved by all! I think we need more games like this that enables VR to interact with other devices. Gameplay is a little finicky, but not usually a problem. About half the time one person of the group has connection issues. I haven't noticed a pattern yet. I think the game needs a camera toggle option so squirrels can see where they be running if needed. Too many times we run off cliffs because the camera is only focused on the tree.

Absolutely fantastic! We had a huge blast with this game at our New Year's Eve party! Definitely tough to with as a tree vs 4 people, but always fun and often down to the wire. Controls are intuitive and the maps are split - some favor squirrels, some favor tree, some are even. Overall a super fun experience and well worth the VR price.

Needs a lot of work. A join random game option would be nice. Weak move to buy in game skins. Needs at least 4 players to have a chance to beat the tree. It is fun to play with friends, but after a while it gets stale. Would like some tree spells of a sort and then select 3 of them for the game. The maps are well made and didn't have any crashes so far.

The idea is fantastic here. However, there are some serious balance issues. It's so heavily weighted towards the tree that it actually becomes impossible if you have a decent tree player. The tree can just sit and spam the acorns at the base. The squirrels have extensive cool down periods while the tree has none for it's throws. Put all that together and the fun is just lost. It would be nice if there was at least an option to handicap the tree with a configurable cool down on throws.

The game used to work for me and beside of occasional crashes on both the phone and Oculus its actually plenty of fun. Unfortunately I can't play it on my phone anymore as it's just stuck on the loading screen. I've tried clearing cash and data, reinstalling (which in many occasions also ends up in error, never seen anything like that, even tried clearing cash and data from play store) but to no avail. It used to work and I was on the same phone and on Android 10 so I don't know what happened.

This is a ridiculously fun game. Got this because I wanted something that would involve the entire family with the VR headset. This definitely fits the bill. Graphics are great, gameplay is fun, and replayability is high. My sixty-plus parents were able learn quick enough to have fun with it as well. My one gripe is the fixed camera angle for the squirrels. I've seen the response from the developer about balancing, but I just don't buy into it. Fun game regardless. Definitely give it try!

Super fun game no doubt! Best way to get everyone involved when playing VR. However from a 20€ game I'd expect more customizability: being able to choose a specifoc map, more free skins for the squirrels and more. Ideally, I would be able to join existing public games created by strangers too. I love the game, but I can only play if my friends are available

Me and my family play this together over zoom. It is a great game our youngest player is 3 years old and he has so much fun. The different characters means we can all do different things to try and work together. Sometimes there is a bit of a stutter or people will ge thrown or fall through the map or out of bounds. Pver all a great game. You play, on mobile, as a squirrel with an over the shoulder view, trying to collect nuts from a tree, who is played by someone with a vr system.

Great fun game to play with friends and family. I hope to find more asymmetrical VR games like this. I'd easily pay for additional content. I hope to see some more updates of any kind. Love it, no complaints. Are there more updates coming for this? I'd pay for DLC to get more features or maps. It might be cool to add an under powered way for a mobile player to join the trees side. Perhaps an under powered turret squirrel in the tree top?

The game costs $20 to start out with on the oculus store, then they charge you more for extra skins in the app, this game already has almost nothing to it. You can't just join random people to play online whenever, it has to be people you know or set up to play with. So it's only playable every once in a while since you really need at least 4 people to have any sort of difficulty. There's only a handful of lvls and things you can do so the game gets old real quick. It's ok...

This is a great concept for a party game. However the squirrel camera always facing the tree was a terrible design decision. It is not fun to run off a cliff because the camera is facing backwards. You've commented that this was an intentional design decision. User comments and online reviews all agree that this is just frustrating and not fun. I can't stress this enough. Fix the broken squirrel camera!

Very fun game for 4 players. 3 is pretty tough to beat the tree. Squirrel AI is super duper dumb sometimes like running backward or making tunnels to nowhere. I wish there was some different difficulty settings like slower/faster skill refresh for squirrels, slower/faster refresh for trees. Either way this game is super fun.

This is an absolutely amazing and addicting family game. For all ages. What does the goofy face button do? It makes a bright light but not entirely sure what it does. Do not change the camera angle for return trip. That is a part of the challenge. Having to use memory to get back.

Its great and its a fun family-friendly type game. You can play with to 8 people. You can strategise and play with characters that have special powers. The tree can pick you up and throw you away. DOWNLOAD!!! However, you can't play online with strangers that why I WOULD'VE given it 4 starts and a half but might as well give it 5. GREAT GAME.

Very unique game for playing vr with non-vr friends! Easy to setup and get into, though seems a bit too easy for vr player to win. The bot AI is not super intelligent (understandable), meaning you need a bunch of non-vr players to be able to have a good chance against the vr player. Still, super fun and exciting to see where this game and others like it will go!

The game has alot of bugs. Sometimes the acorns will just leave you for no reason when tunneling. You can't turn your camera. The tree has more power cause when not moving the balls can still kill you!

Game s a lot of fun. I own the vr edition so i was playing with my dad and brother. Even after we got used to the game, we felt the tree has a bit of an advantage. I imagine if we actually had 5 or more phone players, things mau change, but the AI is a little dumb at some points. The squirrels would probably get a bit of a leg up if we could potentially rotate the camera. Just adding user control of the camera would make this game a lot more playable in a 1v1/1v2 scenario with AI squirrels.

Great game for a lot of people to play togather. Funny, but simple. I think new features are demanded for tree and squirrels are too weak, they are dieing from one shot and it's difficult for new players, especially 3 vs one, 2vs1 is impossible actually. May be some bonus for small team is needed.

Could be a 5 star game... Could be... Playing as the tree in VR is a lot of fun and playing as the attackers is equally as fun, but only half the time. As soon as you pick up an acorn and try to run back to base, the lack-luster camera mechanic's leave you running blind (often into a wall, a river or just off the map completely) As amazing as this game "could" be, instead it just leaves you feeling frustrated. So close up 5 stars, but until they fix this issue, this is a one star from us.

Fun game, needs work. The pov needs to change when you face a different way. It drives me nuts to turn around and head back with the acorn, but my view is still faced at the tree, so I easily walk off ledges or get stuck on items.

Lopsided Favoring the VR player, thrown objects by the tree character home in on squirrel characters. Tree gets unlimited ammo, and squirrels can only use their abilities once every 15-30 seconds. AI is trash and stays in the spawn point, and allows tree to kill them by standing in the open.

I can't even open the game, when I want to agree to the terms and conditions then it instantly kicks me out of the game. I can't enjoy a game I can't play. Plus it takes forever to open and then it's all for nothing. I downloaded this game because it was getting such good reviews but I was almost instantly let down. I am willing to give the game another go but only if this problem is fixed.☹️

Jus. V. Dec 19, 2021

The game is good but there should be a way for the squirrels to adjust their camera. The single camera perspective makes it extremely to find the acorns if they get launched/avoid obstacles while running back to base.

Please make more games like this! We have one VR set (quest 2) and we take turns using it. The others use their phones after downloading the free app. Awesome idea! And it works very good!! Thankyou! Please make more!! Maybe a monster and hunt the players, or player hunting monters. Just make something that can be used with phones and one VR set.

I wanna like it, I really do... But connectivity has been a huge issue. We purchased this as a family so we can all self isolate during these tough times but only 2 or 3 of 8 people could ever get connected to the host. I'm really hoping these connection issues are temporary because at this time it's not playable! Connection issues are all related to iOS and Android. The Oculus side of things seem ok. I would not recommend purchasing this game at this time.

Great experience when you are a tree( playing the vr version) , but not so much if you are playing on your mobile. Running forward is fine, but then when you have to run back to the base, camera is still pointed towards the tree, so you cant really see where you are going. Great game for the whole family.

This game is so fun. There needs to be more party games with a VR component like this. I do wish they had some sort of online matchmaking or AI squirrels you can add because the tree has it really easy unless you have 5+ squirrels. Regardless, the game is a blast and always a hit with friends.
