The bridge works fine enough if you can put it directly next to the inside wall that the power meter is outside of, seems to have no range otherwise. I opted for the free powerly thermostat and have to say i'm pretty underwhelmed. I cannot get it to connect to the bridge and it seems that it does not offer an option to to run your fan without running in either heat or cool mode. Sometimes you just want to have the fan circulate the stale air in the house.
The bridge can sometimes disconnect and you're not getting accurate data when that happens, but the app itself is pretty amazing. It'll project your monthly bill based on current usage. You can also see where your usage needs to be in order to get your bill to a certain amount. I was able to cut costs significantly by using suggestions from the app. We can see a difference in usage from just turning off one light bulb, so it helps you be more conscious of your usage.
I was pretty disappointed in seeing the discontinuation notice. I have multiple thermostats and smart switches that I manage through the application. I've enjoyed being able to control them remotely. I'll probably be expanding my home automation, but with the uncertainty will need to look at another hub.
it seems like the Android version of this app is inferior to the iOS version. the app and the bridge seemed to stay connected when i had my iPhone. but since I have had my Android phone, the two dont ever seem to communicate properly. every time i open the It's Your Power app now i have to run over to the energy bridge to reset the connection between the two in order to manage my electricity with the app. seems like some updates are in order.
I don't like the Powerly thermostat that AEP provides. It seems to have too much swing between high and low temps. and as a result the house is either too hot or too cold. I upgraded to a Honeywell T6 Pro Zwave and the temperature is now consistent. Unfortunately the T6 is not fully compatible with this app. I can control the T6 but the app doesn't report HVAC usage. This was confirmed by AEP Support. The app has limited support for other Zwave sensors - no temp sensor or multiple thermostats.
EDIT: Almost all my problems with the app are fixed. Real time cost is a fun feature. The notification/update panel has some glitchiness to it, especially with this new sweepstakes, but the updates to the main panel are welcome. I would like it if I could input my own electricity prices (or better yet they pull from my bill) when looking at real time cost rather than a forced average, but that's a nitpick.
Took forever to set up. About 2 hours. After months, the software is still unpredictable and unreliable. Hardware uses an insecure rf protocol that is easy to compromise. customer support is useless and in my experience having contacted them several times, usually absent. Mostly consists of "did you turn it off and on again?"
Beware. If getting this for the free thermostat they'll make you get their Energy Bridge and after that when you go to get the "free" thermostat they will want to charge you like $10 for shipping that they never tell you anywhere up front until you've gone through almost the whole process. I'm not ordering it, canceling the Bridge, and uninstalling this app. Don't waste your time. This is two hours I'm not getting back.
Don't waste your time! But what can you expect for free!? Got this "smart" thermostat to use with our echo dot. Went through the set up process 5 times and It won't even connect with the echo dot. I guess it's not so "smart" after all! Don't waste your time! Just buy one from Amazon or somewhere else! This thing is junk!
Terrible! I was super excited about the energy bridge and Powelrey Thermostat with the real time info in the app. I installed it in September. The energy bridge would never bind. I never had the real time data it promised. The thermostat started disconnecting and turning my furnace or air conditioning off! It would take me hours to get it to come back on. I came home to my house being 50 degrees multiple times. AEP sent techs out 3 times! It NEVER worked! Dont waste your time!
App was working without a problem but since the last update, it crashes when I go to the weekly schedule on the thermostat. If I choose any day to program, the app crashes. Update: Newest version corrected the problem.
The app is okay. I have some suggestions I tried emailing to the developer contact email listed here. They don't accept emails except from an approved senders list. Seems rather iffy to me if they list an email address that forbids accepting email... I like the app, but why does the developer not want contacted?
The Powerley Thermostat was a welcome freebie... Problem is when I program the different days, it multiplies the settings for each day... When I back out and come back there are 4+ instances for the thermostat to raise or lower temp.. I will screen shot and send to support..
It's OK. Could be awesome with some serious work on things like learning electrical consumers. (Is: turn it on;turn it off, etc). LOTS of times I cannot even get data from it.
I've really been looking forward to getting my smart meter and utilizing this app, but I must say that I'm really disappointed that the smart devices I already have don't work with the bridge. I have mostly Google home and TP_Link devices. Any idea when this app will be improved to use with google smart home devices?
Since the latest update Nov. 19th, the app is always reading no data available. The app has definitely improved from the beginning but still needs a lot of work! Basically unusable at this point! Please fix asap! Come on guys..get it together!!
Easy app, I truly have yet to understand why any utility company requires the customer to pay a fee (which AEP charges $1.85) for the cust to download Aep App & complete the paying process themselves without any asst from an AEP employee if you pay at an authorized agent they charge as well. That I can see, they are performing a serv & that's how they get paid, but the cust doing it all and having to pay extra, just to pay the bill, be nice for explanation. Cust should charge, we pay INTERNET.
The energy Bridge won't connect to my phone. Edit: I reinstalled to try and fix the issue. I can't log into the app anymore. Possibly the worst app I've ever used.
It's a great start, but lacking features like custom notification options and widgets. There is much room for improvement.
The AEP has really stepped up it's game. Much easier to use and review current and past electric usage. UPDATE 5/13/2020 App no longer has the ability to report an outage, the the outage map doesn't work.
Great idea. It used to rarely get a full day's data, and now it looks like they have improved it a lot. I re-downloaded it and will likely raise my rating as I use it more. It's looking good... Glad to see it
app is great if you have the energy bridge (free by request from aep). i have all electric in my house and this app has helped me learn what uses the most electricity in my house. my only caveat is that the estimate function goes by month and not by bill cycle. if they add the ability to estimate by bill cycle I will give 5 stars.
Network down. Just downloaded the app and it kicked me on initial launch. Tried to update my home profile and the network is down. If this is a beta version, please advise users; otherwise do not release untested products. I work in IT.
I just don't understand how this app is such consistently trash. It works properly maybe 5% of the time, the other 95% it gives a message of "error setting mode" when I try to control my thermostat. It's communicating with it fine, knows the temp I'm seeing, but it almost never works and let's me change anything. I've tried moving the base within 4 feet of the thermostat and resynced multiple times, but this is just a garbage app. I'm so glad I didn't have to pay for this.
