I've had an AirTV ( Sling TV) Player for Android (The aqua and white system) for about two years. This system works readonably efficiently, for the most part... with periodic buggieness... but despite numerous attempts at trying to get this app to recognize a box that is part and parcel of this app... still, after two years(!)...the app seems to be a bust.. just downright useless.
Ok....for people who give 1 star and complain about the app, what does it not do that it claims to do? It clearly states that you need hardware. Fact is, you downloaded without reading. It gives ota channels with the when you have the hardware. I found the hardware for cheap at an auction so I tried it out. It glitches and lags but it still does mostly what it claims it does. My internet connection is slow so that could have something to do with it but I personally think it just lags and glitches. The app needs work but it will get to the point it needs to be at if people stop giving it bad reviews and low ratings because they didn't read. I think it gives a better quality picture than an actual antenna does. My opinion.
Okay let's get one thing straight this app works great and you have to buy the box for it to work. I really dont understand the bad reviews this does exactly what I wanted it to which is to be able to watch my local channels on my phone and firestick app throughout my whole house without having to switch inputs or have multiple antennas in the house.
I had no trouble knowing that you must have the AirTV box (device) to pair with this app. It was obvious to me that the app does nothing by itself. BUT...that was because I knew about the box first, then found out about the app. Those complaining have a point. Imagine that you're just browsing apps on Google Play. You see an app named "AirTV". You read through the details. You see AirTV mentioned a lot. NOWHERE does it say that it is the name of a device (in addition to an app). The developers owe it to customers to be simple and clear about it. Say something like, "This app is intended only to control the AirTV streaming device, which you must purchase separately." Now, you'll notice I gave 5 stars. That's for the box and the app combined. They're that good! (Hint...when you're setting it up, you might need to check settings on your router, to make sure AirTV is allowed, not blocked.)
Not sure why so many bad reviews, this app works great (and yes you need the AirTV box, any research on the internet would have told you that). I have it set up on my parents OTA in Wisconsin so I am able to watch hometown news/programs, etc (out of market sports, cough cough) whenever I want. The app streams great to my phone, computers and smart TV's (can only have one device streaming at a time, FYI), but overall this app and hardware unit have been great.
this app is just too buggy. I bought the Airtv box and I have the channels from my antenna working and Airtv says not availble I wanted this to work so bad. It worked for a while but needs attention. I don't know what changed. The Airtv box I have shows everything is working and even went through all the steps to try and fix with customer support. they esculated my complaint becuase nothing fixed it and then they never called me back.
I install app on TV and try to log on. TV says download app on Android mobile device to create account. I download app on phone. Alert message says app is not compatible with newer versions of Android. Sooooo...no updates then? The whole Airtv thing is just one big fiasco. You'll have a headache in the end. I promise. Everything from connecting to a Bluetooth device to setting up to finding apps that are compatible with it. Its been a big waste of time.
Terrible. Added the app on Roku, which was said to be a supported device. I logged on after creating an account, and found no support to use/set up on Roku, set up on my phone was the same way, and begin set up only lead to being told I didn't have an AIRTV bix (duh), and the only help on their site was if you had their equipment, again, despite saying Roku was a fully supported device... Huge waste if time. I logged out and removed the Roku app. Zero stars..
I do get a warning that it's made for older version of Android...probably due to coders mistakes, as I don't believe this app can be that old. If so, get on the ball & make it function. Doesn't do a thing. Will not set up air tv box. Spinning disc forever. Followed instructions cupla hundred times.... Well, cupla dozen, anyway. App "sees" air tv, thTs about it .
Description does not disclose that hardware purchase is required. This app does nothing without an expensive AirTV box. This is nothing more than a scam to get you to pay for free content and to harvest your email and other personal data. And you schills bashing us disappointed users need to go to the app description and point out WHERE it explains that it requires additional hardware. It simply says you need AirTV, which is the name of the APP! Thanks for wasting my time and bandwidth.
Doesn't save all the channels. I do a scan, and find all the channels that are available. I then try to save them, and only half of them get saved. I'm not sure what the problem is, as these channels work just fine directly through my TV.
This app is for people who bought the AirTV (Black box) tuner. It will not work without one and the box will cost around $120. Hook the AirTV to your TV antenna with coax and connect it to your router via either WiFi or ethernet. THEN this app can be used to set it up, scan for local OTA channels, and watch TV on your phone. I've used it since June 2018 and it works great.
the app doesnt even allow you to create an account. the create account button is drawn over a required field!😩😩😩😩 And further more, after reading reviews (which I should've done upfront) the app should disclose that it only works with a box, and you can only stream multiple devices with the right box (apparently there's more than one box!)
Me: I saw the app on my Fire TV Stick, Is this compatible with the fire stick? AirTV: nope. You have to buy a box from us. Me: Nevermind. I'm deleting the app. What is the point of having it show up on the menu for Fire TV stick when you need another streemer to use it? I just wish I could leave NO STARS for this review.
It only takes 10 seconds of research to figure out that this app requires hardware to be functional. It supplies local OTA television to set top boxes like Roku, Fire TV, & Android TV. Tablets & mobile devices are compatible too.
Waste of time. Doesn't find the player. Everything else, including the phone using the app on, does. At time of original review, the "What you will need:" "(does not work with AirTV Player)" was not in the app description. If u have the White & Blue Player this app will not work.
The initial advertisement for the app mentions NOTHING about buying an airtv box, which makes you think any OTA antenna will work with the app, however when you load the app to your device then it tells you. Good job informing after I buy an OTA antenna that does not work with the app.
Not bad but a little easier to use your air TV box with sling. I don't know what everybody's complaining about go watch the antenna man on YouTube he does a review on this product. He also shows you how to properly set it up.
This is a companion app to a physical product. The developer might see better reviews if they reword their description to reflect that better. It is similar to the old slingbox of the early 2000's.
No support for app anymore...!! Was told by AirTV tech support App is being fazed out. They can not help with sign-on issue. Suggested creating new account with 2nd email. Even that no longer works.
Login does not work on Android TV at all. Doesn't even show what the error is. Asks for too many permissions. Wants to see what other apps are installed on the device.
Was able to get it to work via a sequence of disconnecting AirTV from Sling account via Sling Android app, doing hard reset of AirTV box, re-downloading AirTV app, launching AirTV via the Sling app on Android, scanning for channels, exiting Sling app on Roku, then relaunching the Sling app on Roku. Works very well once you find the correct sequence of actions with (1) AirTV hardware (2) AirTV Android app (3) Sling Android app (4) Sling app on Roku. So RIDICULOUSLY far from being "plug and play."
*******I called AirTv support, got a real person the the US it seemed. I was having trouble setting up whole home local channel access on my white and blue AirTv media player. I was told only the black box works for multiple devices. You need the black box to stream local channels throughout your house and to your mobile devices. (Disappointed I bought the wrong device).
Called support because in add it dont tell u have to buy a box for $99. Before that i order a package that they said was free. But they took $ out of my account anyway. When i talked to them they had no idea what i was saying. They said they never charged me or i never had a account!! No wounder the rates of stars is low! Dont get this services!!
So this app popped up on my fire TV and I downloaded it to get local channels. When I went to sign in it said to download app on phone. So I did. Wasn't until scrolling down in the comments I see you have to buy a box. No thank you. That should be somewhere in the description.
Dont buy the airtv2 if you plan on using the dvr with sling. It constantly loses connection and half the time it wont tune the channels. The airtv app doesn't lose signal though but you cant record ota channels with this app
doesn't work. what's the point when it's talking about needing a box and a cable to connect to. jesus christ I got a tv for that. this app is misleading and garbage. Do better.
DO NOT RECOMMEND DOWNLOAD .... Downloaded onto tv and phone which are both new.....installed ok, tried running the app, can not get it to load to do anything......unistalling from both.....waste of time. Zero stars and I do not recommend this app unless its updated to work......I do a lot of reviews and very rarely give a bad review - but this one here is not a good app as of yet
This app works flawlessly on my Blu G9.. have it on my phone my tablet and my TV.. this app is outstanding me.. keep up the great work guys!! PS it says tell us more optional.. choices are no and not sure.. all I can say is yes yes yes!!
works great. I don't think people understand the point of this application and the needed hardware. No. You don't need this if you just want to use an antenna for O-T-A channels on your TV. But, in order to stream those channels over the internet so you can watch them anywhere, you need the hardware in order to do that. This app works for viewing those channels, but you can also view the changes in the SlingTV app if you pay for that service.
