Al Manarah Library

This app is designed by the Library for the Print Disabled, an organizational program of Al Manarah – The Association for Arab Persons with Disabilities. The is designed so visually challenged library users can listen to a valuable collection of books, articles, and stories easily at a time and in a manner that suits them.
The Al Manarah Association is the first Arabic Israeli society for Arab persons with disabilities and was founded in 2005 by a group of grass roots activists, including visually challenged persons, with the aim of raising the status of people with disabilities in the Arab community. Our characterized by its strategy for inclusiveness and the advancement of the status of persons with disabilities at all levels through building awareness and community empowerment and the defense of disability rights.

Al Manarah is located in the city of Nazareth, in northern Israel and is an independent non-profit association working in partnership with many of the institutions in order to improve the lives of people with disabilities in the Arab community. Each year thousands of people with disabilities benefit through our services, training and workshops, and events. Additionally, our activities expose many thousands of non-disabled persons to the world of people with disabilities in Arab society.

Since its inception Al Manarah established the Library for the Print Disabled in order to make works of literature and relevant information accessible to visually challenged persons through audio books, Arabic Braille, and electronic assistive technologies. In the next step in the development of this program, we have designed this application to enable the visually challenged to have access to audio books in the easiest way possible.

This technological development of this project was supported by IREX, the International Council for Research, and international nonprofit organization that provides innovative programs to promote positive lasting change globally. The project was funded by the US State Department Office of Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). MEPI was founded to support the efforts of economic and political reform and education in the Middle East and expand opportunities for all the peoples of the region, especially women and youth. This application was developed by NADsoft
