Needs attention. Repeatedly, clicking on a headline brings up a different story. And lately the first story when you open the app is the paper's "best of" poll feature. This is the the most important story? Really? This app is very basic, like one from the early days of the Internet. And then there's the stories the TU posts on Twitter - but aren't on the app. Is this the best the Hearst corporation can do?
Sometimes when you tap on one story, it takes you to a different one. Crosswords are much more fun in the app than on paper.
I have a digital subscription but was accessing the site with a browser before I downloaded the app. The app helps me stay more up-to-date on local news due to its headline notifications. (Before the app, I had to "remember" to access the website and was just not accessing it that much so was pretty much wasting money also.) As with the web version, the fonts and layouts are visually attractive and inviting. I don't have to deal with the annoying video insets that you find on the web either.
This is not a great replacement for the actual paper newspaper -- as far as I can tell, it's a limited "lite" version of it -- but it's a big improvement over what they used to have, which didn't function well on my phone. Unlike this app, the desktop version of TU will at least allow you to go searching for stuff you know should exist because you still remember things like, say, the book section in the actual Sunday paper. The search function in this app doesn't work at all. Nothing opens.
Trouble finding articles I want to read. Not an ez index. Can't open articles directly through Facebook, even though I have a subscription. Have to leave fb and go in through the app.
Update prevents opening chosen article- must swipe through and hope to find the one you are interested in. Makes it very tedious.
Thank you fot keeping me up to date with all the breaking news and the in depth reporting on those and other stories. Honored to be a subscriber.
Very basic, lazy effort. Probably a boiler plate template of an app since this paper was purchased by Hearst. Articles found while using the search feature can't even be opened. Tapped notifications do not lead to the article they're referencing, and instead bring up a blank screen, forcing the user to search the site for the headline, which often doesn't even match the notification. Basically useless.
Click this article and it takes to another one. They lack a support team to address the issue.
Excellent app. Very easy and intuitive to use. Ads are a bit less intrusive than the website, which is virtually unusable because of them.
Initial download times are brutal. When you first click on a story, it hangs for several minutes. It appears to want to download everything before it will show you the article you selected. 11/11/19 I finally uninstalled the app. I wanted to like it but It's unusable.
Purchased the subscription, but wouldn't let me log in. Contacted customer support and they quickly responded with "there is a 24 hour lag in signing in app with new password or newly reset. We are currently working to resolve this issue." It's been 48 hours since I last reset my password and I'm still unable to log in. I give customer service 5 Stars, and the app itself 2 Stars until I can actually use it under my paid subscription.
Really dislike not having ability to see the print edition. No equivalent to sports scores and schedules ... thankfully I got the $0.99 special. I will not be renewing.
Love the app and proud to support local newspaper. However I'm not able to load the "Feature" section where TU does local reviews. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, no pun intended
Difficult to use. If you search for an article, you can't open any of the results (the list of results are not links, just plain text, so you can't click them). Also, if you pay for subscription through Google, that doesn't give you access to articles on the web.
Very easy to use. Readability is also pretty good
Never opens on my pixil. I always have to force stop on the app and then reopen. If i didn't want to support local journalism, i would cancel my subscription. The paper is good, the app is not.
I subscribed for 6 months and it won't recognize my password. I request to reset and the codes to reset never arrive in my email box. I am moving to the capital region and I'm very disappointed.
I just installed the app. I will now uninstall it. Apparently TU limits the amount of articles that can be read for a period of time when you chose to not purchase a membership. Why would I pay to read the TU news via an app? If I'm that interested, I'll just go to the site. Better yet, I'll use other news sources.
App runs smoothly on my Google Pixel 3 phone. Articles open quickly and are easy to navigate. I actually prefer this app to the website!
Can't save/favorite/bookmark articles for future reference! Also can't click/read articles in search results, so ... utterly useless. C'mon man!
Great supplement to the daily paper, with breaking news notices, if you like them.
I pay for a subscription, but when I use Google News it tells me I reached my limit, can't sign in anywhere it makes me buy another subscription please help!!
When I open a late article, the ads are obstrusive, overlay and interfere with reading the article.
I like the paper on my laptop
Requires a subscription for use. Did not know it was a subscription app. Thought it was related to the website for school closings.
I was required to rate it before it was installed and available for use. That's a negative. Can't rate the app yet. And, that comment still applies to the new app. I guess no one from the TU reads these comments. I wonder why.
This rag of a newspaper is absolute trash. If you want a slanted view of the news, this paper is for you.
When I 1st paid for my subscription it was still giving me a hard time logging in... I am reluctant to try again.
Had some problems getting the correct article to display but it's working now. They publish a few too many *20 things you don't know about (some media personality). There are some great journalists at the TU.
