Algebra Golf

To play golf well, you need to make sure that every shot you take gets you closer to the hole.
To do algebra well (at GCSE, at least), you need to make sure that every step you take moves you closer to the answer.

In Algebra Golf, you do exactly that: pick the best shot available and get the solution in as few shots as possible.

(Of course, there's nothing to stop you working it out on paper and getting a hole-in-one... but we wouldn't want to encourage cheating, now, would we?)
