Alphabear: Words Across Time

Great fun, an improvement on the standard fantastic Alphabear. A little too heavy on the ads though. They made a good system where you can watch a few adverts to boost your bonus multiplier and rewards, which is fine. But then even when you complete a level successfully you still have to sit through another advert.

The best word game! It allows me to utilize more of my vocabulary than other games. I do have to say, the game's dictionary seems inconsistent with what it will accept sometimes, and I also feel the player bear costumes/cloth aren't that interesting to work toward, other than to unlock special event rounds. I don't see the bear enough for it to matter visually, and it's not powered like the other bears. That said, it's one of the few mobile games I wish I could buy a full copy of. Thanks, devs!

A wonderful take on word games. There's so many different modes and challenges, and many bears to collect, each with their own boosts. The short dialogue snippets are amusing and aren't excessive. Only reason this isn't a five star game for me, is that there's an ad after literally every single level or challenge I complete. I already watch the voluntary ads for the prize boosts and to get more honey, which I don't mind. But the popup ads are excessive, and there's some I can't even skip

It's fun all while working your brain! The bears are cute, the story is funny and self aware. The fill in the blanks at the end of the levels sometimes don't make sense because of the way the grammar is written ( example, it would work better if it was an adjective rather than an object or action). Besides that, 10/10!

Great game and also challenging especially for 2nd language user like me. There are ads for extra freebies. The bears are also upgradeable so u level them up. This game is laggy for my old phone so I changed the quality but there's no changes. The quality looks the same whichever I use. I wonder if dev could address this matter? Timed levels are more difficult when there's lag that lasts about 2-3 secs .

It's an entertaining game, the bears and animation are all well done. Only downside is there's no need for ads after every game - I am willing to watch them to gain more coins as seen in the 'Watch TV' function. Also the polaroids after each game is not necessary- at times the sentences don't make sense.

This is a cute and fun spelling game. You can collect outfits and different skins for your bear. However, after the first chapter, you get constant ads eating up your data. Before that, the ads were only after every other chapter or so. I like the game, but had to uninstall because it was slowing down other apps on my phone.

I love word games, and this app both challenges and entertains me. I like that the app allows you to watch ads for bonuses, but it is not mandatory. Plus a lot of the ads can be fast forwarded. The bears are really cute and I like the system of upgrading the bears. Plus, when I get stuck on the story line, I can play side games and "educate" my bears.

Just what you need in a sequel. The mechanics are pretty much the same, but having all the different modes keeps it interesting and gives you more options. I don't mind the limited honey, especially because it keeps refreshing over time. Incentive to go away and do something else for a bit! I can see that one of the things that annoyed me about the original will still happen here - there will be one or two bears I just can't get no matter how many times I play. Early on, the random factor is fine but later my inner completist wants to get the missing ones. Bear school is great, love the extra challenge with prefix and suffix inclusions. Love the outfits and the different types of bears - though the cautious bears look so worried, I just want to make them a cup of tea and tell them it will be ok! All in all, a worthy (and cute, and funny) successor.

First of all, this game is very polished and has a unique concept for a word game. The mechanic of uncovering letters and having to prioritize certain tiles is pretty interesting. I also love the unobtrusiveness of the ads. I had a lot of fun playing up until around chapter four, which is when I started paying attention to some of the game mechanics that started to make the game feel a bit pointless. I''ll explain: - In order to beat a level, you must reach a target score. Harder levels have higher targets. Each word you submit is worth points based on the numbers on the tiles. The final score from words is multiplied based on the levels of the bears you use. The problem with this system is that whether you beat a level or not has very little to do with which words you select, and almost everything to do with how levelled up the bears are. Subsequent levels aren't more mentally challenging, they just require better bears. The other problem with this system is that long words are not worth more than short words. Since each word is simply worth the sum of the counters on its tiles, you'll often score more points on an early short word than a very long one later on.

This is a super cute and super addicting game. It's worth the $4.99 to get rid of the ads. You still get the benifets as though you watched an ad if you pay for it. Each bears have different abilities which adds strategy. There are different levels of difficulty so anyone can play! I do wish that you could go back and play levels you've already done before though.

Loved the first one, love this even more. The core gameplay is the same, but the new mechanics for each chapter/world are great additions and keep the game fresh. The different events keep me coming back for more. The honey system is good and well balanced. Rewards are well balanced. Ads aren't too frequent (money has to be made somehow, people!) And there is the ability to watch ads for bonuses – but it's not necessary to do that to enjoy the game. I like that the bears don't sleep for the story mode (but sleeping in the school mode is nice to keep it, sleepy bears are cute). I also love that when you go into any game there is a list of recommended bears. It's super helpful. tl;dr: It's cute and fun! A wonderful word game! I'd highly recommend!

I'm enjoying this new version of the game. It feels like there's a lot more to do, but there's a limit to the honey that only allows a few games at a time. Would be nice if there was an option for double honey for a one time 5 or so dollar purchase like the last game. [Edited because they seem to have fixed the below issue] I only have one issue. Every time I start the game, it asks for the same permission over and over "Alphabear 2 would like to: Know who you are on Google". I select allow every time - but it still asks every time.

The only mobile game I've seen in a long time that is both fun and doesn't need to buy in-app purchases to progress. My only complaint is that the bears level up somewhat slowly, and therefore place too much emphasis on the school, but this is not anywhere near a big enough problem to dock stars. Overall a great game that I play all the time. I've yet to feel like I *need* to purchase anything, I however am considering removing ads. (Not due to an excess, they're fine, just considering it!)

I'm disappointed overall. I don't mind paying to remove ads etc but £7.99 is very expensive. It would help to break it down into more affordable offers like just remove ads, just give honey etc. It's also very heavy on dialogue you can't skip which is really annoying. The simplicity of Version 1 is far more appealing and I'd recommend that game much more than this offering. A real shame.

Fun game. Ads are annoying, but not willing to pay for the ad free version. Also play is limited to how much honey you have, which can also be annoying. It reminds me of candy crush in that aspect, which I stopped playing due to this and is the reason for the 4 star rating otherwise its a total 5. This one is still fun enough for me to keep going for now. We'll see how long it holds my interest. The bears are SUPER cute, and the challenges make it interesting.

Great spin on the classic word building game. I like that you have options to pay for an upgrade and skip the ads (devs make games to make money, and I don't mind paying for an enjoyable, well-made game) but doesn't allow for buying your way through the game with power-ups or boosters. My only complaint is I get stuck having to upgrade bears by 10+ levels to be able to progress in a few places, but overall this is an entertaining - and dare I say educational - game.

Such a fun, quirky game! Great art, innovative gameplay. The ads aren't super intrusive (although the ones between levels could be shorter, with the longer ones left for TV Time). The honey fills up quick enough that you can get a few hours of play in a day. Especially love the tongue-in-cheek narration and commentary, but my favourite feature has to be the sentence pics you get at the end of every level! I have gotten some real gems😂😂😂 would highly recommend this game.

My only qualms are that there are not enough dress up items for the bears... YET!, and the clothing store is a bit cumbersome to navigate. These issues will surely be remedied in the near future, I'm sure. Nothing impedes negatively on the game play. The characters, story, and challenges are endearing and memorable! Already this game is an instant classic, why aren't you playing this NOW?!

I really loved this game when I first started playing, and paid the extra money for ad free. What made me stop playing and eventually uninstall the app was the fact that after a certain level, it's almost impossible to beat levels without significantly higher level bears with boosts added on top. Since you can only level up so many bears at a time, it becomes incredibly tedious and no longer fun.

I love this game! I had the first one and played it so much and this one is just as cute and fun. There are minimal ads in between levels and plenty of free extras for watching a 25 second ad. You don't need to purchase anything to get ahead in the game or pass a level. The bears are adorable and it really is a new take on word games. Even if you don't wanna play the story mode in the moment you can play other boards that can give you bonuses so you can go back and crush a story mode board.

A lovely game, with stellar customer support. The only two things I wish were different: fewer timed levels (your whole life has to stop for these), and more info. I've played a bunch of levels and I still don't understand how it all works. But I enjoy playing anyway, and I love that there's an affordable option to buy out of ads.

i loved the first installment of this game and this one is great too. love the addition of being able to customize your bear. However, i feel that the micro-transactions were better in the previous version. There I was able to pay for unlimited honey, but in this version that is not an option which is too bad. Would have given 5 stars but the micro-transactions dont seem as worth it. Maybe only the ad removal one... LOVE the game and design though. Highly recommend!

Excellent game. The animation and art are adorable and well polished. The rules are simple but the game play is variable and can be customized to suit your skill level. Generally I would be irritated with the number of ads but each game you play takes long enough that the frequency of the ads doesn't seem so bad. The available paid options would improve the game but it's conpletely enjoyable and serviceable as is.

Great word game if your looking for a challenge. Game actually makes you use your brain and doesnt give you words easily. The one thing I really like is that you can dress up your beard but since starting I've only got cloth maybe twice. cloth needs to be more common. What's fun about having costumes if I can't ever afford to make them. I'd change that soon it would give the game the little extra it needs. I havent been able to craft a single costume because of the cloth.

This game is amazing in theory, with awesome gameplay & graphics, but frustrating to play. Limits on honey, levelling up bears, etc mean that you can be essentially locked out of the game and unable to keep playing at times. I have purchased everything that is on offer in the game (VIP, ad free, etc) and still I came to write this review because I cannot keep playing today without spending nearly $100 on extra in game currency, or waiting for the lockout period to pass. Very disappointing.

Light game. Good to dip in and out. The theme is a bit cutsie, but it is charming enough to be tolerable. Gameplay is fun, mostly untimed word creation from random letters, some levels are timed. Ads can be switched off for a fee, but there is is still a pay to play element if you want to play a lot. The internal "honey" is good for four games . If you want to play more than that in a short period you need to watch ads or pay to switch off this constraint.

Totally adorable game, what I consider "brain candy". The story is silly, the bears are fun to collect, there's strategy and words - all things I'm on board with - so it's pretty great! Sure, there's ads, but what free game *doesn't* have them? There's a cheap option to remove; I'd say "worth it", if they bother you that badly. Great job to the devs👍🏻

I'm surprised how much I like this game. Super cute, fun, and lots of levels. The honey refills fast and its a challenge but not impossible to get the coins/berries/fabric which is exactly what I want in a mobile game. I haven't been able to put it down since I downloaded it. The ads are not bad, but im considering buying ad free because I have the feeling I will be playing alot in the future.
