Altec Smart Security System

bought for 1/2 off, the cameras are good quality and I found them easy to set up. I drilled holes for screws on the actual swivel base along with the sticky pad for a secured and comfortable placement. The home speaker can edit the settings but that's about it. you basically buy a camera and get a free speaker. the two way audio quality is good, with decent range. the sd card functionality isn't fully implemented yet, besides saving alerts but you need to use either the free or paid subscription

The camera does not connect to WiFi in spite of following ALL instructions and calls to tech support. I even returned the first one in the hope that maybe the camera was defective. Truth is it's just poorly designed with a faulty set up app. Only thing good in the whole package is the Google speaker. My advice, don't waste your time on this product.

Well everything works good except the fact that the app won't allow me to buy the cloud subscription package. Every time i click subscribe a loading screen pops up and then disappears only to end up right back where I started. Never had this problem before. Also if lights are on in the room it appears to bright to see anything and the night vision only really works close up which defeats the purpose of detecting anything from a clear distance in the dark. New equipment/company here I come.

Found the fix! Ensure location services are enabled. And see that your wireless connection is 2.4Ghz. If the wireless SSID is not displayed correctly upon connecting, this is the issue. (Disable mobile data to avoid network confusion as well) Overall, not too bad. - Speaker has mildly decent bass response, and the assistant works as intended. - Camera app works quite well, and the fisheye effect is straightened out some when zooming in on an area. - It does show full 360 degrees, but not equally. As shown in the app photos, the top and bottom of the video is slightly cut off, like a widescreen movie. - Listen/Speak feature is good-ish phone call quality. (Which is not bad) Couldn't test the *180 feature (Panoramic view) as my accelerometer isn't working correctly. TL;DR Mad decent bro.

Works, but not easily. To get the camera to connect you have to use 2.4 GHz. Easiest way is to log into your router and turn off the N band. Once you get the camera connected, you can log back in and turn the N band back on. No option for cloud recording unless you pay. Would have liked to be able to select my own cloud recording site. This is an okay $30 toy cam. It is not very useful as an actual security system. It might be better if you're willing to pay the monthly fee to save recordings.

I've seen the reviews of people buying this system and not able to make it work correctly or at all and I don't understand how it's so difficult for them. We bought the system at a store 10 minutes from our home, read the directions on our way home, we have the camera and Google home speaker setup in less than 20 minutes, left our house on the way to the airport and finished the setup during the drive. The app works good and shows detection alerts correctly and instantly connects, good product!

These cameras are the best i have owned for the price. Very easy tp set up and the picture is clear and rotates with out sny one being able to see it move. ALSO the sound is crisp and very clear. IT HAS a service that comes with each camera that has emergency contact on it and they are constantly recording and im not sure how far back you can go back.that is saved on the cloud but i have went back avout 3 months.

It glitches alot. And you can't fully tell what everything is on the video and if it's day time you can't see certain parts cause it's too bright. Night time the night vision doesn't make everything clear. The sound very loudly picks up every single background noise and hardly any voices. Sometimes it records for 2 minutes sometimes for a few seconds and sometimes for up to 8 minutes even if there is nothing there. All in all the cloud service is pretty cheap, it's still good just not A1

I had the same problem many people have complained about. I made my Android connect on the 2.4 Gig band and still no luck. I had to turn off the 5 Gig band on my router and it worked right away. I suspect the camera had connected to the 5Gig band. Once I got connected this camera is awesome. To bad about this bug. I hope they fix it soon. I'm happy.

Lot of issues. it works as far as videos and it has a very clear picture. Options to record or snapshot. But If you want to monitor it for long periods of time it will burn your screen. There's no option to go whole screen. It automatically zooms in randomly. some apps zoom in to where the motion us detected. Not this one it goes the opposite. Cloud don't work Rely on the memory only. No one replies to contact for questions. Looking for a better app that's compatable to the camera.

To those having issues with this app and especially the camera, right before I was about to smash the camera because nothing would work, i decided to try a different phone, and guess what, it connected in 2 seconds. I'm on a S9Plus, as my main phone, no go...and then i grabbed my Essential PH1, and instantly connected. so, i dont know what the issue is with the Samsung Phone, but I hope the dev's read these reviews.

The update was made and it finally works again now I get alerts on motion and sound. It's a great camera and looks great I can even hear the sound and speak as well its overall a great camera plus the bundle with the speaker was a good deal. Love this as a baby monitor as well as an outdoors camera for my front yard. Highly recommend as long as they keep updating and fixing the bugs.

Really straight forward and what we need it for each room we are in. No lag and great quality with prompt sound and notifications. In fact, the response of picking up motion with Altec is always faster than what our Ring doorbell doesto notify us of sound and motion! impressive, especially considering its price. This company should work on more products with the goal of maintaining a low market price. These other companies are charging ridiculous prices for little or less difference in quality!

I bought this to use as a baby monitor in rv. I have a 2.4ghz router with no internet, couldn't get it to work. now that we're back home it connected camera and speaker with zero issues. I'm a little curious why these are bundled, need two different apps to work them and they do not interact at all..... but I love the speaker, it adds to my Google home assistant army, I have one in each room! it's battery so I can bring it outside and I can use it as just a Bluetooth speaker! camera works fine

ZERO STARS IN MARCH 2019!! I cant even get an email!! I've tried to register 6 times and still no email came through. I called and customer service and the guy with the accent (that's says enough) was very rude and gave the same excuses that I read about from reviews in November and December 2018. I got it at Walmart on sale for $35 so I basically got what I paid for. The speaker works but I'm taking it back tomorrow and spending the extra hundred bucks on a better system. Very disappointing.

The whole system is simple to use, but don't get this bundle confused with the Google Home Speaker (or Hub) and something like a Smart WiFi Camera - because that's not what this is. The camera cannot be streamed to T.V., and it only functions through the phone app (including the 2-way voice, so you're not using it as a front door intercom through Google Home). If you have issues, connect your phone to your 2.4Ghz Wifi, factory reset the camera and delete the camera from your app. Then ensure you pair it properly through your 2.4Ghz Wifi (even going as far as to disable your 5Ghz radio in your router if you're having trouble with the camera connecting to that by default - usually because your phone is/was connected to it.) It'd be nice to receive an OTA firmware update that makes the camera usable within Google Home or SmartThings, or for Altec Lansing to do the dirty work of integrating the camera wtih their 'Altec Smart' Google Home cloud integration so you can stream it and make use of the 2-way in other ways than solely through their app. There's a free 7-day cloud storage thing that lets you store videos for the last 7 days on the cloud, and access them 20 times per day. Or you can pay for 24/14 access. However, with no cloud subscription after recording has finished it'll simply store the video to your phone, and you can access it through Files (Google's file management app). Lastly, I've had mine about a year and a half now - and yesterday was the first time it ever locked up, seemingly bricked - until I unplugged it, held the button (power) for 10 seconds, and then restarted it... working as always now.. Overall I'll give it a 4/5 only because its missing features! ><

They just stopped supporting no notice or anything I stopped my subscription cuz it wasn't recording and paying back like it should. I reached out and get an email that the email for the support/developer is no longer valid. Thanks for the security! I'm now going to go to a different competitor I'll never get this Companies product again. Not very professional how they just stopped supporting. They have since taken the cameras I was using off their site.

Would have rated 5 star if I could get the Chromecast functionality to work on the ALT-117 cameras. Tried the new and old firmware without success. New firmware says "improves Chromecast functionality" but is definitely not working... Sent email to support with photos and was told they would forward to department to investigate and would come back sometime...week later not a word. As far as this software goes wish functionality where IP and MAC address was visible somewhere in the app.

For anyone upset about the non connectivity to your pc, I use an android emulator called nox and as it is silly it needs to be done this way it CAN be done. Hope this helps as for the camera it does what it should. Ir leds are weak but fine enough and the zooming and panning are incredibly frustrating to get used to but can be done so all in all worth the money. No clue why it's bundled with a Google assistant as they are unrelated but now I have a speaker so....theres that.

This app and the camera product that it is supposed to connect to will not connect. First of all when I try to sign into my account it won't let me even though I have set up an account. Secondly once it does finally let me sign in it signs me out of the app randomly and literally never will connect to the camera. Speaker works great, but I am extremely unsatisfied with this product and highly recommend that no one buys this product or uses this app. Just complete garbage. Just an FYI to Altec.... Make sure your products work with your apps prior to selling them. This has been a very frustrating experience. DO NOT BUY AND RETURN IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT. 2 DAYS LATER... camera still doesn't work, but everything else works. Still going to return this on Monday.

set up was a headache. the motion events will not load. cannot scroll to the time said motion events occurred on the saved video. playback of the videos is literally impossible unless you watch it all the way through. event times are in am/pm,tine stamp on videos is time elapsed. has sd card in camera but doesn't have the option to save videos to the card. why is there an sd card slot if you can't save anything to it? this was a complete waste of money!!

this app is great. I love the camera. I'm not sure why everyone else is having trouble hooking it up, but mine hooked up right away and is great with noise and motion detection. I love that I can take pictures and videos of what's going on in my house and they save right to my phone.... and a google home speaker that has good quality sound, when all I was buying was the camara... score! I love even more that I got it for 40 bucks!

Please fix! Area for WiFi SSID is greyed out cannot enter SSID. Can only enter pass word. Fix please, and they never did fix the above issue.. this product is a joke and would not recommend. they did not fix the issue, it will not connect to my 2.4 wi fi 🤬 not to mention it won't record you can't listen you can't take a picture this app is a joke 🤬

It won't even let me purchase the subscription. The short clips it saves I can't even watch. It shows there was motion detected, but when I hit play it says the video cannot be played back, error 101

Purchased this on Black Friday and still not able to get the camera to sync with my WiFi. I've called twice and they now tell me it will be a few more days until they update the app. I'm taking it back and getting something else. Very disappointed. If you are going to sell it, make sure your app is ready. That's just good business!!!!

Received this for a Christmas present and have tried setting it up about 40 tries and can't get it to connect. My Internet provider says it is not their issue that it's a product issue. I have spoken to a techician at Altec which tried several times too. So far it's only been a waste of time and worthless to me.

**app development is DEAD** 👎👎☠️☠️ I'm using your 360 camera. When I view full screen I'd like the video to remain still and full view instead of zooming in and scanning. When it zooms in and scans I miss things happening slightly out of view. I'd like the option to turn that off in settings.

Love this system 🤣. Yes camera was tricky at first but got the hang of it. Use the speaker all the time but lately I've had a problem playing my favorite station. When I say hey Google play 105.9 wmal it says okay, playing on Audessy or Oddessy or something like that What is odessy. Therss no app on Google play. Should and used to say iHeartRadio. Help 🥺

Pay attention to your WiFi band. I set up 2 different ones at my girlfriends and my house. Hers went like a breeze but it took me about 2 hours here before i realized that my cell phone was connected to the 5ghz band. Most connect automatically depending on your setup. Cam and phone must be on 2.4 when doing the setup. if you have issues completely restart(delete cam) and you will have no problems. Once its done the monitoring can be done from both bands and cellular. Youre very welcome Androidss

App worked great for over a year. Wish I could use another cloud service. Last few months, been having difficulties connecting while using other wifi, like at work. Unable to use app as of today 12/06/21. Uninstalled. Garbage!
