Altered Beast Classic

This was an instant classic when it came out for the Sega Megadrive all those decades ago - while they can never replace the experience of playing on console in my book, Sega have still done a stand-up job of transference of the original onto smartphone. Playing this instantly took me back to my childhood & I am so excited that some of Sega's best games - Altered Beast especially - are now available & this draws me in each time just like it did when I first played it years ago!

Was so excited to play this game and relive old memories. however the controls were so bad that it was basically unplayable. jump only works half the time If enemies come from both sides then forget about it, your game is finished. Just about impossible to escape without losing all your health. The enemies just beat the snot out of you and it's so frustrating I want to throw my phone across the room

Absolute TRASH!!! Downloaded it to play on my S20 Ultra and the game constantly crashes. When it works, it routes me to ads longer than 30 seconds, and there's no way to close the ads. Thought I'd try it out, but instead I'm going to delete this trash.

I want to give you fine folks at SEGA one more star, but, can not. The controller support is wonky at the moment. Bluetooth controller, too. I uninstalled, but, am not demanding a refund, because, I'll be re-installing as soon as you fix the game. Altered Beast IS the classic pack in title with the system! So, I know that this will be resolved, because, Genesis does won't nintendon't!!! Fix the controller issue and let me know and I'll reinstall. All the others worked with my 8bitdo M30.

Really fun but the controls can be a bit wonky at times. However the worst offender is ad placement; an ad bar blocking the start button and part of the control pad. Once before i could even start the game and once in the middle of a game.

This has always been an entertaining game and this version is cool with the save and rewind features. BUT the touch screen controls are awful. You will frequently find yourself getting hit because your guy doesn't move when you want him to. Basically a nostalgic yet frustrating version.

Great app. Sega Forever baby. However, not worth buying with only 5 levels. Ads can be a little frustrating but hey, cant complain too much because its free. its actually a brilliant strategy. Anyway, i finally ended this game after 28 years thanks to the save feature. Game does repeat but levels are much harder. so if u up for the challange, go for it. but ima pass

The tiny controls make it unplayable, and there's no setting to increase the size. It's easy to misclick on the screen when trying to move.

Poor controls and you ads at every turn. You can't play without an ad going off. Its the worst game when it comes to to download because unlike most games with ads, this one has more ads than gameplay. Do NOT download. And it's sad because this is one of my absolute favorite classic games that I can play over and over again. I just downloaded it to see what all the negative reviews were about and immediately deleted it because of how right the negative reviews were.

Altered beast has always been great. It's a classic. Played it here too. No regrets. My review isn't about altered beast though. I had no other way to make contact. Please turn your commercials down. Your phantasy star online commercial is so loud, I have to turn my phone way down every time it comes up. It blares and more annoying than other loud commercials on my phone. I don't turn those down, I put up with them but the phantasy star 2 online I have to turn 3/4 all the way down

I was extremely excited to see this-my fav Sega arcade game! I had 2nd thoughts though as I know from experience many console games don't fair well w/ tablet or phone controls. However w/ HID supposedly available-game on! Then came the let down: controller support doesn't work well or at all (tried multiple), in game controls are impossible & the game is just clunky at times. It's a great piece of nostalgia in 5 min intervals, but we should expect more from Sega.

Totally worthless game - the most boring part was the final unbeatable boss, who has nothing in common with the version in the arcade, you cannot hit him without him hitting you back, once he gets you on the ground you cannot get up - you just get hit each time you get up until you die.

the controls are AWEFUL. they lag terribly. there is a delay when you press an action and it almost is like you have to foresee things in this version without getting hit by every enemy. if it wasn't for that then I'd give it a better score

game play is good. playing this game, brought back memories from childhood arcade days. but the controls on touch pad could be better. i like that you can rewind the game play, if you die or lose a life. only gotta play an ad. no biggie.

This game is a classic, in fact, I even owned it back on the Sega Genesis. We used to laugh at the steroid transformations and the lousy voice acting. Now the controls were bad back then, but it's even worse playing it on multi-touch, and I'm too lazy to connect my PS4 controller to my Xperia 1 just to play this game. That said, I'm rating it one star because this game actually requires like 2 MB of ROM storage, yet here on Google Play, it eats up 145 MB. It's ridiculous. Like 143 MB for ads?

same game as i remember ,controls are ok but fustrating at times.i played the add festered verson ..i will not be buying the add free version ..simply because you lose function on some of the features when off line..and i recall growing up Sega ,i have great bought games on my phone .you only had to buy the game once ,and you owned the game.i do not feel like i own my game if i have to have the net to save and use rewind..expecially with old as games as these are.im unistalling.stop the sleazy!

First time I tried to open it, the app went to a completely blank black screen, with no way to back out, forcing a restart. Tried again, same result. Probably the fastest I've ever uninstalled an app.

Could be good I suppose.... But Upon opening the app, I received ads. Then, I went to play the game and immediately received a video ad. TWO ADS BEFORE I COULD GET TO A GAME?! If that's how Sega wants to monetize, I have no need for their version of nostalgia

The fact that this says that it is HID controller compatible is not true or they have more bugs to fix. Wish that the game designers will get with engineers or whomever and start developing HID old school SEGA controllers. Would love to rate the game higher but on screen controls are obsolete

I love altered beast, but the ads on the free version are far too long. I'll stick to playing it on the mega drive.

I played this game nonstop on Sega growing up, it was my faaaave! I love that I can play again! Controls are a little iffy but the fact that you can customize and move them for a better play, is great! So far, so good! 🙂

Expected more from SEGA. Controls don't respond half the time. Jump doesn't always work. If enemies are on both sides, you can't fight back. SMH 🤦‍♂️

Unplayable on galaxy A52, does not ful screen so you can't back out of ads. Haven't even been able to get past the title screen.

Close ad button is off screen and you can't press back button anymore to close ad once it's finished. Won't actually let me play the game... s22 ultra.

Wouldn't launch when I downloaded it on my S22 Ultra. After reading the reviews I think that's for the best. Uninstalled.

Play on Galaxy Z Fold 2 and I love it. Easy controls and game runs smooth. Looking forward to anymore additions to the sega classic lineup. Keep up the great work porting classics over to phone!!

Old school game, on mobile,.... Not bad. As far anything else, the comments I've read about lag or other problems, I just turn off my WiFi and mobile data for a while and play; as far as just trying to just play the game as is.

The ads don't even work correctly. Even when I complete the ad, I can't even click off of it so I can't even play the game.

Description says it's compatible with HID controllers. As if the writing if this review, I can say it doesn't, at least not with the Razer Kishi. The most I can do is use A, B, X and Y, no other button works, including sticks and D-pad. I'd say that's false advertising.

I agree that this is a very good mobile game, fun and challenging but the controls are difficult; you will be getting hit but your man won't move.
