This used to be a good ap. Hasn't worked since a few updates ago. I've done all the updates and tried uninstalling and installing again. All my other apps work fine so there's something wrong with the latest AA updates. UPDATE: For anyone else having the same problem, I was able to resolve the issue by opening the app using my cellular connection. Once open, then it works with WiFi. Very odd that I had to do that, it should work either way. Changed my 1 star rating to 3 star.
This is one of the worst apps I have come across. I only am using it because I had to add my KTN. Five times I entered the data and each time I got American Airlines error page. Navigation to get to adding this data is circuitous once I log in. Really, pulling up the menu from the promtions/wallet page at the bottom in order to get to the information and password page? How about having a person icon at the top as soon as you log in? It colors my experience of American Airlines negatively.
Constantly forgets your password so unless you happen to have your password memorized, the app is useless. My fellow travelers on this flight often have the same problem. 4/25/2022 update: still not fixed and 3 of us are in line getting replacement boarding passes because the app cannot figure out how to save passwords. Perhaps they'd like my intern for a few hours to help sort this out? Or my 8 year old? 5/20/2022: another app update and they STILL can't figure it out. Apparently this is hard..
Trash. The last 3 times I flew AA, the app wouldnt let me check in (it said checked in, but the page never changed from the "check in" button to a "boarding pass" button). So, each time, I had to check in at the desk at the airport. I also had to pay for checked bags at the desk, bc usually that's prompted after checking in on the app. And this time, even after we'd checked in at the desk, the app wouldn't load our boarding passes. Yes, I've done steps 1-4 of troubleshooting.
I found the app very easy to use honestly. Back in Dec 2021 I took a trip by myself for the first time. I'm 19, never flown before let alone been in an airport and it literally got me through the whole trip really easy. There is a labeled map of the airport with all the numbers, and you can see where your seat is in comparison to the rest of the plane beforehand. The app makes your boarding pass brighter for you when your pulling it up. Not too many buttons to get confused. ☆Very nice~☆
This is the most difficult app i have ever used! Probably because customer service is so poor. I paid for monthly in-flight wifi for 2 devices and it did not work on domestic flight and there is no way to get assistance with it. $59 down the drain on that, but even getting basic information is not easy and the app is slooooow to respond.
I have used this app for a long time and generally like it very much. But since their last update I have flown twice and haven't been able to retrieve my boarding passes through the app. I have to print paper passes at the airport each time. I can hit 'boarding pass' a million times and nothing happens. (Samsung S20)
Garbage app from a garbage company. My favorite feature of this app, is when you have a connection conflict. It will allow you to rebook.... Except it will only allow you to book flights that are also a connection schedule conflict. Also, pick your own seat rarely works. I would rather be hit by a DC-10 than use this app to book a flight for one
Just horrible. Horrible back end infrastructure that takes forever to load anything that you request. Most of the times I try to do online check in it just cycles back to the beginning, and if it does acrually check you in, half the time it won't show your boarding pass. They should be embarrased amd ashamed.
App is faulty and that's not cool when catching an airplane. First trip no boarding pass would appear (and forget about speaking to the humans), second trip boarding pass is there but has incorrect gate. All around, the only bad parts of my otherwise great vacation were all American airlines (there were many issues unrelated to the app). I'll drive next time.
This app is terrible. They boast no change fees and give the option to change in the app but it doesn't work. The prices for the change fee are never accurate and the change never found through. You have to call them and then they tell you "oh that change is $300" even though the app is saying $50. "That's probably why it's not working." The price they see never showed up in the app no matter what time of the day I tried. System needs some updates.
Minimal functionality and missing some really basic functions for an airline app. For example, if you have an existing reservation, how do you add it to your calendar? YOU CAN'T! If all the competitors apps, as poor as they are, have such basic functions, why doesn't the co-inventor of SABRE? Seems the IT people at AA have all abandoned ship - or maybe just the capable ones... UPDATE 4/11/2021 Nearly two years later, and the app has simply become even less useful. You are logged out (even when you select to stay logged in), no fingerprint unlock is provided, the calendar add function is STILL missing, and the functionality lags that of apps from Alaska Airlines, Southwest, United, and Delta. Gate changes, even at major AA hubs, are not pushed out in any timely way. You're better off with paper and a no. 2 pencil... UPDATE 5/19/2022 - Another year, another set of frustrations with this TERRIBLE app. No improvements.I'm giving up on AA and moving all my business to someone else - including credit card.
I love flying American but this app is truly awful and laggy. Most of the features are unusable due to the app taking so long to load a screen. Half the time I end up switching to the browser, which obviously defeats the purpose of even having an app
Sign on for free movies it says. Use the inflight wifi. This just doesn't work, no access to these supposed free entertainments and apps. Airline is fine, but the are not honest about they services they provide. Thank God you can download things from Netflix.
American airlines app does not handle covid test result without great inconvenience to their customers. Uploading test results with the Verifly app is broken because the email validation message was not received. Submitting a test document from flight checkin requested test provider email, phone and physical address, all of which is hard to obtain from Express Test in London. Only resort is to arrive at airport and hope they will accept the test result in person.
Repeated "error try again" when checking in. Notifications to review a pre flight check list, that does not exist. Notifications to go do things in the app too soon or there is no prompt. Untested garbage. Edit: same garbage coming home. What an embarrassing app.
Constantly crashing. Nothing worse than needing your boarding pass and not being able to keep the app open to use it. Also: When I open the app, why must I enter my password every single time?!
The app itself is not bad. The airline most definitely is. I had a round trip weekend flight. Departing flight was delayed and then I was told to pick a new flight. I had to leave work early and I barely made it to the new flight. Coo, I can get over that. But the return flight was delayed and then the same thing: pick a new flight. Next available was the next day leaving me to sleep at the airport and miss half a day of work unexpectedly. NEVER AGAIN.
The app is very slow, a bane to use. The buttons don't respond all the time, Esp the filtering results, takes ages for the menu to come up. If I could give zero stars I would
This application works marvelous on my iPhone. It is horrible on Android & constantly crashes for those I know with Android phones. It`s much better than Delta`s flight app, which doesn't include the ability to make in app purchases or upgrade your flight with a "loyalty program" (AAdvantage).
How is there still no Google Pay integration for Boarding Passes and no Biometric (fingerprint) login? Like every other airline I use has these "features" .... My entire family is able to save their boarding passes to their Apple Pay / Wallet app, but I guess Android users don't have this "luxury" 😑. Mediocre app at best.
Works pretty well and is easy to navigate.. However, on my Pixel 6 Pro (Android 12), my miles balance won't update unless I delete the app data/cache to force a refresh.
I wish I could say I liked this app more. It is generally intuitive and it functions well when it is working... however, it times out and errors out a lot. Even when it sends you to the mobile site, it doesn't seem to work. I don't understand what the deal is. Overall it works when you are checked in and your tickets are ready but needing to reschedule or look up a flight...you better expect issues.
Half Baked App. I roughly book 100-120 flights a year and simple information is difficult to get on this app. Example how do you see all upcoming flights without knowing your ticket number? Also American believes the most important thing for me is applying for a credit card, wasted screen space. App appears polished but useful information is buried in multiple taps.
Worst of the three remaining legacy carriers and the app is just one reminder of this. Paid for an upgrade on an existing ticket because, well, I could according to this app. Received an error message when *gasp* I entered my credit card info. Transaction unsuccessful! AA charged my card anyway. Customer service chat zero help. It's now my responsibility to unravel this mess with my credit card company.
It's a complete garbage. I have wasted more than 2 hours trying to pay for my luggage and was all a waste of time. Then when you look for the options by phone, it's the same result. Garbage garbage garbage. Not even deserve one single star.
Horrible, upgraded prices are unavailable and takes forever to load. Constantly exiting out and back in to book a reservation. Card info shows error when there are thousands of dollars on the card. Then it works after several tries. Horrible!
Need to update to password less authentication. I don't enjoy when the app logs be out right before boarding. Then it doesn't have a link from the app to reset the password so I have to go into a browser. Then i have to answer 3 questions that I barely remember. Then back to the app to login.
My last 20+ flights, the app worked great. Now all of a sudden I can't even change my seats on the app. This is a huge deal for someone that travels as much as I do. When I contacted AA via chat about the issue, they just kept telling me to try the website. Yes, I know I can use the website but, that wasn't my question. It was about the app and why it its working.
