American Civil War Gazette
This app recreates the experience of what it would have been like to read the headlines and news stories unfolding day-by-day... much like the BBC or New York Times widget do for news today.
American Civil War Gazette incorporates articles from both Northern and Southern newspapers. However, with the advantage of hindsight ACW Gazette attempts to have the stories reveal on the date (and time where possible) of the actual events rather than on the actual date of publication... which was often several days after the actual event.
To add the widget to your home screen, find a screen that has one complete row clear and hold your finger on the screen until the "Add to Home" menu pops up.
Then, select "Widget" and "American Civil War Gazette". The widget is live and will update every 30 minutes.

App was working fine, now it is crashing immediately when app is opened.
Downloaded this app and every time I opened it it crashed so I uninstalled it.
The app is not stable on device. It keeps shutting down on fire tablet and Samsung tablet. Can it be fixed?? Probably an earlier version works fine on smartphone.

I love the idea of this app, and the articles are great! I've even purchased a few of the 99 cent extra editions. However... it says the articles should show up realtime, but I never get any articles updated until I go back a day on the calendar. If I select "today" it says no new articles and I can't read anything from current date. All settings look correct, I even turned on notifications. Whatever today's date happens to be always shows empty and I have to go back a day to read the articles.
Used app for 3 years but update forced 01May15 because articles format changed. Now I get 3/4 th inch of text overlap down left boarder that hinders reading. Can no longer have the text read to me. Changes made to the app have made it unusable on 4.0 and 4.1 devices. Copy/Paste functions have been disabled (preventing blind use by listing to it instead). True for daily free and paid months articles. Was a great app running older versions up to 01May15.
Wonderful. To follow events 175 years ago in real time this is the way to go. It is like you are there.
This is safe great app if you enjoy history. It matches news of today, that corresponds with what happened during the Civil War Era. Nicely organized with daily updates run it on multiple devices with no problem. Really informative app. Easy 5 star app!!!
I've been following the Civil War in 'real time' since the beginning. It's been a fascinating look not only at war news, but also daily life.
Very interesting to read, but being ten I don't completely understand it.
Really gives us readers a sense of what people were feeling at the time, in a way a textbook cannot. In fact, these articles are primary historical sources for those who study the era, now accessible to anyone. Awesome!

I loved this app, but feel that the need to buy the extras by the month is a waste of my time. I would much rather pay extra and pay for the whole year EDIT: It is unusable with the last update. Needs fixing A year after my review the issue has not been resolved. Lowered my rating from 4 stars to 1 star.
